1. K-Dogg is commuting to play ITG2 2. He hears Absolute from DDR 5th Mix 3. They overlay Crazy over Absolute 4. He finds an ITG1 and plays Delirium SX; they show the end of the chart 5. They overlay the ITG1 attract screen music while he's playing the beginning of Delirium SX 6. It cuts to him playing Across the Nightmare Doubles Oni from DDR Extreme on a completely different machine 7. They overlay mods selection noises while he stands in front of the results screen (this is the weirdest one to me) 8. It cuts to him playing Charlene SX, then Utopia SX; they overlay Bend Your Mind while kids are talking; he talks while someone is on the song select screen; he plays Pandemonium SX (these are all normal) Overall, I thought that documentary paid very close attention to detail; more than mostly any other coverage from people outside the community. It's extremely well done. But there are some pretty funny details in this scene if you're a NERD
The French channel footage is from a 2004 documentary called "History of Rhythm Games" (channel name is Game One). The team behind later went on to create a niche TV Channel called Nolife, that helped a lot in popularizing some aspects of japanese pop culture (mainly J-Music), but also gaming including shmups and music games. Some of the french community saw their first footage of bemani games on that channel (they had a speedrun/high scores show that had a Pop'n Music showcase around 2009)
I remember going threw the shopping mall with my friends, I heard a really muffled song that sounded like "dont bother me", yes it must be it, I left my friends behind, I was manically going threw the shopping mall and then I found it, a pump o.b.g cab, I felt a thrill that I never felt before
3:36 That is Dancing Stage EuroMIX 2. Beginner mode is present hence the on-screen demonstration, the fonts for the judgment and "CLEARED" graphics are different, and the song list is more varied with exclusive Zomba and Jive licenses, combined with music from previous games not in DDRMAX2. Even three new Konami original music tracks were made specifically for this game before being included in DDR Extreme.
So I knew that the "Upgraded to DDRMAX2" bit was inaccurate from the get-go. They were playing on Beginner difficulty. DDRMAX2 AC didn't have Beginner difficulty, that would get added to DDR Extreme after first appearing in... Dancing Stage Euromix. DS Euromix 2 kept the Beginner difficulty, and (AFAIK) the charts from DS Euromix 2 got transplanted into DDR Extreme AC.
I enjoyed the video, but my guess is that their research wasn't that deep; I think they had the presence of mind to know that they couldn't have a marquee that said "Euromix 2" so they bought a 3rd mix marquee from someone in the US or a collector in Europe, not realizing that the "Dancing Stage" on the button panel would be inaccurate for a machine in California or anywhere else in the US. The fact that Euromix 2 resemebles Max2 probably wasn't even something they were aware of. It was likely the case that they just had the Euromix 2 cab available to them because they were very prevalent (basically the equivalent of how common a first gen cab running Extreme in the US is) and then they just changed the marquee on it. The decision to use 3rd mix probably wasn't any more complex than, "we need to quickly buy any DDR marquee for a game that doesn't say Euromix in the title and that was released prior to 2002."
what's funny is that euromix 2 is becoming quite rare over here, a lot of the cabinets have suffered a dead flash card and get downgraded to euromix 1 since it doesn't need a flash card to run, so i would say they're not that prevalent compared to euromix 1. could be worse tho, could have been dancing stage which iirc is basically extinct by now
The one behind me? Its a "legit" marquee that came with the cab I bought. The people who worked on the fan ITG3 theme printed out custom marquees. Its pretty neat

Idk why I had the really strong urge to wish the video never ended, idk why but I enjoy when you talk about random ddr stuff

Good video! I basically know nothing about upgrade paths of these older mixes so this was a cool history lesson
the HEELS god dammit.
I clenched up at that scene too LOL.

that's cool! I definitely misremembered max2 AC having beginner cuz it was in the max2 US CS release.
I noticed this too haha
This is an amazing video, look into the “walking taco” advertisement from lunchables
lol what a good commercial. That machine is a mess, I love how they covered up all the pump decals and threw a 4 panel game on the screen
