The idea of Atari being responsible for the North American video game crash is way over-blown. Their arcade titles were still top-notch in 1983. Through the weeks it has taken me to watch through this I have in parallel played some of the games on my Analogue Pocket, and I even bought an arcade stick to get closer to the real experience. I've found many great games and arcade favorites that Ive enjoyed playing by myself or with my kids. Thanks again Bastich B!
Amazed watching and doing a FBNeo/Mame Romset for a Retroarch on Steam Deck with all games and an organized spreadsheet. You certainly helped us to cross a barrier of comprehension sharing our common passion. Thanks for all! 🤪
I love this documentary I'm a 62 year old gamer and got my start playing early arcade games. Sega's Periscope one of the first fantastic memories thanks.
Tremendous job on this , dude. Pretty much all of my student loan when i should have been studying was spent in the student union arcade bar in the 90s footie sports beer and awesome 2d and early 3d coinops. It never left me. Still a gamer - still loving the buzz. Ten hours of arcade heaven 🎉
Man, what a HUGE documentary! I'd like to thank you for putting all together! Believe me, the arcade scene here was a huge thing here in Brazil back in the 80s, specially in Rio and São Paulo.
@@BastichB64K In big cities, like rio and Sao Paulo, the arcades and pinballs were quickly updated. The old machines were sold to smaller towns. So, every trip to a small town in the country side was a chance to discover old arcade and pinball games. This is true even today.
Great documentary. I think this is the best i have seen on this subject. My favorite arcade game is Tempest. But also in my top 5 are Bump N Jump, Pacman, and Hard Drivin'.
Thanks! this is an amazing work, I discovered this video yesterday and it made my day! Your guests look so cool, I would hang out with all of you sharing arcade memories (I was 10 yo when BreakOut came out)

I'm still watching this doc, entary! Long and fantastic!!!! We can feel that you do love these games! So far, several games you mentioned could be found here in Brazil (10 years later in average), and tons of others that I never heard. And I'm 44!
I'm from South Africa and a lot of these are bringing back really excellent memories. Particularly the old Arcade on Durban beach. Spent so much time in there as a kid on holiday and it was always awe inspiring and exciting looking at and playing all the machines. I definitely remember that mechanical periscope one. Loving this documentary. Great work. Subscribed. Let me get back to watching - I only have 10 hours and 3 minutes left to get through.
This was massive, thanks! One thing I noticed is how remarkable the NEO GEO is, right? Basically each year of the 90's had titles made for this 1990 board ranking among the best until the 00's. Proof that great games always had their place in the market, even without cutting-edge tech. SEGA, Konami, Irem, Data East and more left their older boards behind, but SNK kept on giving. The CPS III is obviously more powerful than the NEO GEO board, but Garou is just as impressive, if not more so than Street Fighter III.
Loved the video. I grew up in the 80s and didn't have many arcades near me but the ones did love and many fond memories of. Thankfully Arcades are coming back into fashion and have emulation so can play what I missed out on before! Thank you!
What a wonderfully thorough chronicle of arcade history! I think more gamers should be aware of the era of the advanced EM games, which played like a lot of the soon-to-follow video games. And of course some of the features left over from the EM games could still be found in the 70s arcade machines. One was Boot Hill 29:40 , using the 'Pepper's Ghost' half-mirror technique to spice up the background with a painted plastic hill and graveyard, which looked like a prop found earlier EM shooting galleries. Try that backdrop in MAME, it's really good at simulating the effect
Thanks for the advice I'll try some of those in Mame , I actually played some of those half em video game combos so I know exactly what you mean , good times 👍
A third of the way through realising YOU ARE ACTUALLY GONNA ACTUALLY DO THIS........ PROPERLY. Everyone is spot on, this is an absolute, in-depth pleasure.
2:01:15 oh you missed M.A.C.H. 3 from mylstar. it came out in '83 and blew away Astron Belt and Firefox put together. made more money and looked the most realistic of all the fmv games. hands down my all time favorite arcade cab.
@@BastichB64K @BastichB 64K yeah i wasn't trying to give you crap...lol. it may not have been as big where you are... i was always trying to remember what the name was, and your documentary gave me new reason to look harder to find it. this documentary is awesome!
we used to have chain arcades here, franchises. "mr. arcade" i think was started in 1972... and then we had two big private arcades downtown. eventually they brought in consoles to try to keep up, it was a strange thing....big 72 inch screens in private rooms with a leather couch and the latest console. that didn't last very long though. the writing was on the wall for arcades in general at that point. that was early 2001, i think. we now have one of the biggest arcades around, a guy started an arcade/band stage. most times you pay a flat fee and all the pinball machines and cabinets are set to free play. and sometimes you have the added bonus of a live band set.
Thank you for all your hard work in creating this, man talk about memory lane. Looking at PC games now and what I use to play on the Atari 800XL they have came a very long way quickly. I remember that stupid Atari cassette drive wait 20 minutes for a game to load and right before it loaded you would get an error. I eventually got a Atari Disk drive which made the loading a little less painless. Unless I missed it one of the laser games I didn't see was Space Ace also by Don Bluth, who also drew all the Dragon's Lair characters. I was in a arcade just recently called Dave and Buster's and the newer gen arcade cabinets are way crazy now.
You’ll always be remembered for your work, man. Timeless.

I've found many great games and arcade favorites that Ive enjoyed playing by myself or with my kids. Thanks again Bastich B!
Cheers , glad you enjoyed it . Its was difficult but very fun to make . Enjoy the new old games 🕹️👍
Amazing video, really appreciate the time, love and care gone into this production a true education.
Thanks a lot , I appreciate that 😀👍
Just finished watching all 10hrs! …. Wow what a journey. Thanks for making this incredible video.
Cheers dude , thanks for watching the whole thing 👍👍👍🕹️
This is the best history of arcades I’ve ever seen or imagined seeing. Thank you so much.
Thanks a lot , I appreciate you checking it out 👍👍
the amount of time and work you put into this is incredible this child of the 80s thanks you.
My pleasure, thank you for watching it 😎👍
Amazed watching and doing a FBNeo/Mame Romset for a Retroarch on Steam Deck with all games and an organized spreadsheet. You certainly helped us to cross a barrier of comprehension sharing our common passion. Thanks for all! 🤪
Cheers and thank you for watching 🕹️👍👍
I watched this video in its entirety, well done. Thanks for bringing me back.
Wow! Well done , glad you got that taste of nostalgia ... Its fuel for our brains 😀👍
This is truly awesome! So many games I've never heard of, but now need to try. ❤❤❤
Thx for watching and enjoy the games
I love this documentary I'm a 62 year old gamer and got my start playing early arcade games. Sega's Periscope one of the first fantastic memories thanks.
Nice , such a great EM game ! I played it a lot at a local beachfront as a kid
Dude, best arcade / video game documentary EVER! Thanks boet!
Thx boet , cheers for watching
Tremendous job on this , dude. Pretty much all of my student loan when i should have been studying was spent in the student union arcade bar in the 90s footie sports beer and awesome 2d and early 3d coinops. It never left me. Still a gamer - still loving the buzz. Ten hours of arcade heaven 🎉
Cheers thank you for watching , just wanted to give the arcades a time to shine ... They brought me a lot of joy as a kid
Man, what a HUGE documentary! I'd like to thank you for putting all together! Believe me, the arcade scene here was a huge thing here in Brazil back in the 80s, specially in Rio and São Paulo.
Yeah i made sure i mentioned that later in the documentary , i read many things about your arcade scene then and now 👍 sounded epic ✅
@@BastichB64K Thanks for the quick answer. I noticed several typos in my comment. Sorry for that!
@@BastichB64K In big cities, like rio and Sao Paulo, the arcades and pinballs were quickly updated. The old machines were sold to smaller towns. So, every trip to a small town in the country side was a chance to discover old arcade and pinball games. This is true even today.
@@IvanovBR no probs 👍
@@IvanovBR thats super cool 😀👍
Great documentary. I think this is the best i have seen on this subject. My favorite arcade game is Tempest. But also in my top 5 are Bump N Jump, Pacman, and Hard Drivin'.
Thanks dude 😀👍 Some good choices , an '80s man 👍👍👍
This is why I ❤ TH-cam. 10 hrs of arcade history. Well done, sir.
Yeah 👍👍 thank you for watching

Just finished this masterpiece of a video BastichB....thank you so much for your time and effort, It was amazing!! I am a new subscriber so I will be going through all your docs and videos now!!
Thank you sir for watching the whole thing , hope you enjoy the other videos🕹️👍
I'm still watching this doc, entary! Long and fantastic!!!! We can feel that you do love these games! So far, several games you mentioned could be found here in Brazil (10 years later in average), and tons of others that I never heard. And I'm 44!
Nice , thank you for continuing to watch and im super glad you've discovered a bunch of new old games 😀👍👍👍👍
Glad you enjoying it , that Durban beachfront arcade was epic alright 😀👍 enjoy the rest
It was very impressive, I loved that they used it for the whole decade and it held up well 👍
Loved the video. I grew up in the 80s and didn't have many arcades near me but the ones did love and many fond memories of. Thankfully Arcades are coming back into fashion and have emulation so can play what I missed out on before! Thank you!
Yeah totally, i notice arcades everywhere , it'll never be what it was but its nice to see the resurgence
I am grateful for your work; you bring me beautiful nostalgic memories; a really-genuine creative documentary Bro.
Thank you for watching, i appreciate it
So many memories, new sub and genuine thanks for the passion my friend ( watched the whole video over a few nights, great work)
Awesome thank you , glad you liked it 😎👍
As a huge arcade fan myself, I so much appreciate this. Deep knowledge and VERY entertaining! :)
Thanks a lot , Glad you enjoyed it
What a wonderfully thorough chronicle of arcade history!
Cheers dude thanks , just wanted to give back to the old arcades in a decent way 👍
2:01:15 oh you missed M.A.C.H. 3 from mylstar. it came out in '83 and blew away Astron Belt and Firefox put together. made more money and looked the most realistic of all the fmv games. hands down my all time favorite arcade cab.

Sorry dude i simply could not include every single game , it already features over 600 games . But thanks for pointing it out 👍
@@BastichB64K @BastichB 64K yeah i wasn't trying to give you crap...lol. it may not have been as big where you are... i was always trying to remember what the name was, and your documentary gave me new reason to look harder to find it. this documentary is awesome!
@@MGTV1 no probs , i never played it personally to be honest and i played a lot of laser disc games
we used to have chain arcades here, franchises. "mr. arcade" i think was started in 1972... and then we had two big private arcades downtown. eventually they brought in consoles to try to keep up, it was a strange thing....big 72 inch screens in private rooms with a leather couch and the latest console. that didn't last very long though. the writing was on the wall for arcades in general at that point. that was early 2001, i think. we now have one of the biggest arcades around, a guy started an arcade/band stage. most times you pay a flat fee and all the pinball machines and cabinets are set to free play. and sometimes you have the added bonus of a live band set.
Amazing! Thanks so much for the work you've put into this, what an incredible trip down memory lane! Thanks again.
Thanks glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for all your hard work in creating this, man talk about memory lane.
Thanks for watching , I still load old cassettes 😂 and yeah games came a long way very very quickly indeed
Incredible, still watching it all!
Cheers 😀👍
This took a lot of research and work. Excellent content. And thank you.
Cheers thx for watching 👍👍👍
My family was in the coin-op business, this brought back so many memories! Thank you! Will pass it along.
