My bed was bought new in May of '21. I don't have a box springs. I have an adjustable cloth bed frame. I thought the video was great and thank you so much for your video's. We just used Crossfire a week ago and per the label will spray in 10 days, unless you think otherwise. This has been tough on us 73 yr old's, stressed, in tears and back breaking. We bought a new mattress, in March 2023, Serta Quilted Hybrid (memory foam and put on encasement. No box springs). I don't believe we can spray the bed,. We sprayed the frame, and everywhere possible Used our steamer to steam slowly the carpet, frame under and around dresser, cleaned out old clothes and anything Un-useable -CRAP . QUESTION : Should we remove this encasement now, and leave off ?
Thanks for this- we thought the NIGHTMARE was over… then after over a year…. I was bitten and see new markings 😩😩😩😩😩😣 I wish I could fly you to Michigan- because I am about to move into a cave at this point because it seems you can’t beat these buggers.😣😢🥺
I put a vinyl mattress cover on that zipped after treating the mattress and realized it may not be bed bug rated so I put a bed bug rated encasement on after that and now 3 nights in there is a stain and now I feel like throwing it all away smh 😭
I rented this apt where i live furnished. Have rented furnished before and have NEVER HAD BEDBUGS until i had to move in here. Its been a battle. I spray every 7 to 10 days and at least once a year i take outlet covers off vacum and puff diatemecious earth or bedbug powder in them as well . Its an ongoing battle and an apt upstairs.. this is a converted carport into an apt My story os long......too long to go into. 😮
Can you put the mattress in a special sealed bag and then pump any sort of gas or fogger into the bag that would wipe out any of the bed bugs and eggs that reside in the mattress? Sort of like a gas chamber.
So my sister and I clean houses, we recently cleaned a house with obviously bed begs cuz of the poo on th e walls left behind. Just wondering what’s the best way to deal while cleaning places like that?
What about spraying the mattress and box spring, letting it dry and then put on encasement? Also the industry often uses interceptors under the legs of the bed? What do you think about interceptors? Sometimes they can break but it seems like a good concept
That's what I did with Crossfire. Hopefully it worked well enough to kill everything inside. But I also sprayed the floor under the bed, the bed frame, and all the baseboards in the room and plan to repeat every 10 days at first. Then every 30 days after that. Probably forever. So the little bastards should still have to walk thru the residual and die.
@@GreenAkersPC I got the encasements in a panic after finding the infestation a roommate left. I steam ironed each side of each mattress and box spring twice, sprayed with crossfire, after a few days and a bug check I put the encasements on, sprayed the encasements, added a mattress cover before sheets--but always kept every top layer sprayed. I didn't put a lot of faith in the encasements, but they (and the mattress cover) are white so I figured it would make it easier to spot any new signs. I'm in the process of treating the rest of the house with Crossfire and Cimexa. There are some outlet covers painted shut that are going to be trouble since I'll have to dig the screws out from multiple layers of paint (not my doing).
Great video. How about using a mattress encasement and but steaming the mattress first? And then maybe checking on a weekly basis to see if there are eggs or bed bug poop.
I sprayed the entire mattress and box spring with Cross Fire before putting on the encasements my thoughts were to prevent them from getting back in the mattress and box spring. Do I still need to remove the encasements?
Crossfire only lasts a month. I would treat the mattress and leave the encasements off for a month. Make sure the bed bugs are dead then put them back on.
IDK. Seems easier to get rid of the bed all together ? It’s too expensive otherwise! This is not something I can do by myself - already had a heat treatment w Chemicals which helped but now 4 mo later there were some on top of encasement not torn either ? We found some on the bunky board my daughter had to trash immediately! Steamed and used chemical. Putting trap to test as we have not seen any ! My apartment complex does not want to replace my carpet even after 10 years and they wanted me to only deal w their contractor which was way to expensive w only a 30 day warranty for this type of bug???
@@HBDuncan1 getting rid of the bed won’t solve the problem. Only real treatments. Bed bugs don’t just live on your mattress they live all over your home when you have a infestation.
I try it. This past March .its recommend you keep it on for 1 yr. Its the end of july there still a problem. .they dont work! My bed bug cover didn't rip open . They are coming from the out side. I believe it cane from cross contamination . I purchased new furniture from JORDAN FURNITURE HERE in Rhode island! They use the same trucks when they remove old furniture from your home . in my case i didn't have old furniture. . Im sure they dont high pressure the trucks after a daily run.
i had my house treated with Aprehend a year ago and it did not work!!!! nothing works!! Should i call an exterminator and ask if they can use CROSSFIRE!!
What about encasing your favorite or fancy mattress, box spring etc, store it somewhere and for 18 months sleep on cheapest bed for the time being. I think it's a smart idea, might even be cheaper than most expensive mattress encasement
Maybe napalm my house or start wearing a hazmat suit to bed!!! We are almost positive that our new bedroom furniture in our new home came from the 2 guys and a standard white box truck delivery:( I've read through every comment here for help/advice. Ironic that someone asked if you ever brought any home... I just had a conversation in a parking lot with a guy from Ehrlich pest control. The man said that his wife was going to throw him out for this. (He did get rid of them). I think to myself, if he brings them home... How do I know that he is not going to bring more into my home??? My question to you is, what do hospitals use to control this bed bug problem that is working??? My daughter is an RN and they have to sometimes close off a room due to this problem.
Hello my name is Danny. I've been watching your videos for a week now I've recently discovered that I have bed bugs within the last week or two. I am really interested in purchasing crossfire to get rid of these bugs but I was wondering di you think crossfire will work in a camper/RV? I live at a campground in a camper. Any advice will be greatly appreciated im ready to get rid of these nasty critters and get back to a normal sleep schedule again. Thanks.
Considering a one income family to which we are considered poor, might as well get rid of everything start from scratch and move. Cannot afford anyone to come out and do treatments. Nor will the apartment complex I live in do anything about it. This was not our fault and to us getting them. Someone came over and we got them. I also have pets. I have to think of my kids and my pets. We rely on paycheck to paycheck. Heaven help if one thing goes wrong and then we are behind on bills. Thank you for your advice but we cannot afford to have someone come in and do any treatments.
oh yeah I ordered a bed bug cover off of Amazon and I had to replace my bed anyway I do wash the bed bug cover time-to-time though, but I'm thinking about getting a secondary one when I have to go wash my first one. the bedbugs are really bad in the apartment complex I live in.
Is it unnecessary to use a mattress protector encasement on a brand new bed even if you don’t have a bed bug problem? I wanted to use an encasement to protect bed from body oils etc because I don’t like thick hot mattress pads.
i bought an encasement the same day i bought the mattress. and my 1st bed, i bought an encasement after the 1st treatment. so does this not apply to me?
Can you tell where an infestation began? If one room in the house is really bad but the tenant left for two weeks and that's when the other roommates got bit...does this mean anything?
Thank you so much for responding! As far as being.diligent is concerned...am I going to be able to remain in the house if the tenants don't do their part? Or is this a lost cause?
I guess what I'm wondering is am I going to be able to live with roommates who literally don't care that this is going on? Which makes me think they may have brought it when they moved in 18 Mo's ago.
Thank you for the education sir. Looks like (for many reasons, including *my* transcience) that my plan to buy a mattress protector while travelling in bedbug-infested Malaysia would be a waste, even counter-productive. May I ask you this - are there any essential oil that actually help? What do you recommend for tourists other than staying in higher-end hotel rooms and placing bags high in sealed plastic bags?
He’s mentioned before that essential oils like tea tree oil and peppermint and lavender work as a repellent only so never use it for an active infestation just as a prevention tool
Hi Jason, we are currently taking all your advice and steps to exterminate bed bugs from our home. Our mattress rests on the floor since we have a little one who could fall off, would you say it's okay to keep it on the floor once everything is treated? Thank you
Hey jason i love your feedback ...very informative and it all makes sense.. My grandmother currently has bedbugs and is very stubborn on how to go about treatment. She believes in the heat which im against also...im all for fumagation..sidenote..im from canada too👍
Watch the whole video. I don’t recommend the use of encasements ever unless it’s to prevent a possible infestation. I don’t recommend them to eliminate an infestation because they don’t work at all:
Hey Jason, do you have any videos on how to get rid of Boxelder bugs? I live in an older apt. building, the lower half of two story bldg. is brick. I've been getting 3 or 4 a day inside, and on the warm days we've had between the rainy days they are in clumps on the brick outside. They have been outside for years, but there are many more now than there ever has been. We have a good bug guy that comes once a month and I just reported this, but I still like to do my own research. Any suggestions?
I don't have any box elder videos...It's not a common occurrence enough to grab footage but I will see what I can throw together. I usually recommend treating cracks and crevices out doors, even behind gutters and door mats. Also try to find the tree they are breeding on and treat that tree. Granules between affected trees help keep them off the house as well.
@@GreenAkersPC thanks! All I could find on Google was to spray them with soapy water, lol! That might get the ones I see, but I'm sure there are a lot more that I don't see that keep breeding.
what if i put some cheap plastic sheeting between the mattress and box spring with enough overhang? would that prevent them from getting to me so i could sleep peacefully, at least?
@@GreenAkersPC sure, but just for now so i can actually get some sleep until my order arrives, lol. i just ordered two 13oz. bottles of it, was a little under $81. i still might rent the smaller heat treat equipment for a day to get them in the chairs. it's still $350. does the powder stuff you find at lowe's keep them at bay? my next load of laundry i'm going to put them in the dryer first and see what happens, that's a good idea.
I've been getting bit by SOMETHING every night for the past week, but I can't see any signs of bedbugs anywhere. No nits, no bugs, no eggs, no droppings... nothing. When I had them as a child, my mom called them "spider bites", but someone mentioned it could be bedbugs and I've been freaking out. I got a $20 plastic mattress encasement, but can't go out to buy a bedbug lure/trap because we're in a snowstorm right now. How can I tell if I might have bedbugs without a lure? In the meantime, I've been washing all my bedding in extra hot water, and checking through my entire wardrobe...
I didn't know the case was use to block bedbugs in I thought it was to keep them out ... the mattress we got new beds got rid of couches got boxspring free bed and I see an occasion bug pop up I'm so sick of it... I'm glad (assuming) it's not a infestation but just to see 1 or 2 here and there makes me cray they traveled from a relative Giving away furniture that was in a storage ....
I never just treat one room I usually do the entire house and in cases of rooming houses I try to convince as many people as I can to let me do the whole house. Skipping rooms isn’t effective
I did have a question you might be able to help me with, I can't see to find the information ANYWHERE online. I have some plants (flowers and such in pots) that are in the apartment, and I know they won't survive heat. Is there a way to treat them or am I just going to need to bite the bullet and very sadly throw them away? I would just leave them outside, but I live in a part of the country where they would not survive the winter. Thank you so much for your time and thank you for this video!

I have had some luck with the Ortho bed bug max but I am still seeing on average a bug daily in or around my bed area. I have searched my entire bed & the area around my bed & cannot find a nest. @@GreenAkersPC that’s awesome too bad that I don’t live in your area. You are a blessing for many people. How do you prevent from accidentally bringing them to your house after a bed bug work?
Hey Jason, your videos are absolutely awesome and have really helped me get through this indescribably horrific experience of having an infestation. I appreciate how understanding you seem to be of how awful it is too - that is helpful, because most people just don't know what it's like. I DO have a couple questions - I'll try to keep this short. I moved into a new apartment that had an infestation that no one knew about. I had a heat treatment, and a week later the exterminator came back to follow up with a spray (he also uses Crossfire, btw). Before he did this, he insisted I remove the mattress encasements - and I didn't understand why. I attempted to ask him (politely) just so I could understand, and he immediately became rude and defensive, and didn't tell me why, but rather just told me that I needed to do what he said otherwise I'd have to pay for treatment (landlord pays here in MN). In the end of course I did what he said, but since I didn't understand why (and because my landlord said I should do this also), immediately afterwards I bought new encasements and put them on, and still have them on. I of course now understand your rationale of why that's not something one should do...BUT, now, a month later, I'm getting a bite or two once a week while sleeping (I believe that to be the case because I'm very sensitive to their bites and think they show up very shortly after they happen). As an additional piece of info I recently bought an aerosol can of Crossfire and treated my desk chair(s) at work (and successfully so, as I was getting bites at work, and am not any longer). Since I have a lot left in that can, here are my questions: As far as strictly Crossfire treatment, would it be at all effective to leave the encasements on and spray Crossfire where mattress meets box spring, or is there any reason I should not do that? I'm guessing you're going to recommend removing the encasements - I'm just thinking since this seems to be the very end of this infestation maybe it's not necessary? My rationale is that any of the what must be 1-2 bugs crawling from anywhere below the mattress will have to walk through the Crossfire and won't really even make it to me, or will die shortly thereafter if they do. Please let me know what you think - can't wait to be just completely done and past this. Thank you!!!

Would I end up transporting them with me if I do that?
Yeah they hide in the pages too but if you have the time to flip through them you might be able to save your books
I have came to my last resort with bed bugs I’ve been battling for almost 3 yrs I live in a townhouse I’ve tried sprays de powder literally everything I’ve had 4 exterminators come out and treat and I’m still getting bites I don’t own no furniture and I don’t have fleas so I don’t know what to do I think the best thing is to throw everything away even down to my clothes because I’m paranoid of taking them with me when I move I know they say wash and dry on high heat but even after I feel like bed bugs are still biting me I know it’s a psychological thing this pest are absolutely horrible I’m cleaning everyday I have developed ocd and ptsd behind these pest because they are so hard to eradicate and before all the rude comments saying why so long i didn’t even know bed bugs were real and I think I picked them up from a hotel in miami and still didn’t know because I assumed mosquitoes tore my house upside down and inside out still can’t find anything but yellow flakes I seen some black spots on my encasements but that’s it no live or dead bugs
Update wasn’t bed bugs 4 yrs mold and termites infestation smfh

What mattress encasement brand would you recommend?
I love your spray it worked better then the company that sprayed here.
Thank You !! You have saved me Sooo Much Money in the hour that I have watched your videos! God Bless You!
I put a vinyl mattress cover on that zipped after treating the mattress and realized it may not be bed bug rated so I put a bed bug rated encasement on after that and now 3 nights in there is a stain and now I feel like throwing it all away smh 😭
At this point , imma just burn my whole mattress
I rented this apt where i live furnished. Have rented furnished before and have NEVER HAD BEDBUGS until i had to move in here. Its been a battle. I spray every 7 to 10 days and at least once a year i take outlet covers off vacum and puff diatemecious earth or bedbug powder in them as well . Its an ongoing battle and an apt upstairs.. this is a converted carport into an apt
My story os long......too long to go into. 😮
Can you put the mattress in a special sealed bag and then pump any sort of gas or fogger into the bag that would wipe out any of the bed bugs and eggs that reside in the mattress? Sort of like a gas chamber.
Good question!
In theory , it seems like there would be no reason for it not to work
I just was on ur amazon n u don't have crossfire on it u have Harris so wich is it
So my sister and I clean houses, we recently cleaned a house with obviously bed begs cuz of the poo on th e walls left behind. Just wondering what’s the best way to deal while cleaning places like that?
What about spraying the mattress and box spring, letting it dry and then put on encasement? Also the industry often uses interceptors under the legs of the bed? What do you think about interceptors? Sometimes they can break but it seems like a good concept
If you treat the mattress then cover it up how will bedbugs living in other parts of the room crawl through the residual?
@@GreenAkersPC what if you get a brand new mattress and totally encase it?
@@GreenAkersPC what if I treat the mattress and then cover it ... but I also treat the rest of the entire room, would that be ok ?
I also sprayed the entire house.
Crossfire only lasts a month. I would treat the mattress and leave the encasements off for a month. Make sure the bed bugs are dead then put them back on.
Wow I don't have the stomach to kill those critters I'll constantly feel like something is crawling on me
I would
Why should dealing with the mattress get rid of them when they could be under the bed under the carpet under floorboard gaps
I do have an addiction to Amazon too. Nice to meet you!
Why not spray crossfire inside mattress encasement then line bedframe with foam to prevent friction tears?
If you're going to go to that extent just treat the mattress and live normal
This is a very true video thank you so much. I just lived thru this very issue you described.
We are almost positive that our new bedroom furniture in our new home came from the 2 guys and a standard white box truck delivery:(
I've read through every comment here for help/advice.
What if I did a crossfire treatment on the matress and baseboards of the rim and then put a cover?
then youre defeating the purpose. Treat with Crossfire and wait until all the bugs are dead THEN use an encasement if you must.
Thanks.
What happened if you got a new mattress and box
I'm wondering the same thing. Will it keep them from getting in?
What about Mem.Foam toppers Sir? Avoid using these to help with old matt.comfort or spraying them?
Considering a one income family to which we are considered poor, might as well get rid of everything start from scratch and move. Cannot afford anyone to come out and do treatments. Nor will the apartment complex I live in do anything about it. This was not our fault and to us getting them. Someone came over and we got them. I also have pets. I have to think of my kids and my pets. We rely on paycheck to paycheck. Heaven help if one thing goes wrong and then we are behind on bills. Thank you for your advice but we cannot afford to have someone come in and do any treatments.
Crossfire. Read the instructions on treating. Follow the pretreat directions to the T.

Is there an easy way to verify if bed bugs are actually trapped inside the encasement ?
oh yeah I ordered a bed bug cover off of Amazon and I had to replace my bed anyway I do wash the bed bug cover time-to-time though, but I'm thinking about getting a secondary one when I have to go wash my first one. the bedbugs are really bad in the apartment complex I live in.
Is it unnecessary to use a mattress protector encasement on a brand new bed even if you don’t have a bed bug problem? I wanted to use an encasement to protect bed from body oils etc because I don’t like thick hot mattress pads.
I don’t really recommend mattress encasements unless it’s to protect your investment BEFORE bed bugs infest
i bought an encasement the same day i bought the mattress.
and my 1st bed, i bought an encasement after the 1st treatment.
so does this not apply to me?
What do I do if I already put mattress encasements on? Should I remove them and respray the mattress/ bed springs with crossfire?
Yes
Can you tell where an infestation began? If one room in the house is really bad but the tenant left for two weeks and that's when the other roommates got bit...does this mean anything?
Usually “ground 0” is the room with the highest infestation
Thank you so much for responding! As far as being.diligent is concerned...am I going to be able to remain in the house if the tenants don't do their part? Or is this a lost cause?
I’m not sure I understand the question
I guess what I'm wondering is am I going to be able to live with roommates who literally don't care that this is going on? Which makes me think they may have brought it when they moved in 18 Mo's ago.
Honestly…probably not
"I'll keep this G-rated"- I wished I lived in your state..awesome
Thank you for the education sir.
Looks like (for many reasons, including *my* transcience) that my plan to buy a mattress protector while travelling in bedbug-infested Malaysia would be a waste, even counter-productive.
May I ask you this - are there any essential oil that actually help? What do you recommend for tourists other than staying in higher-end hotel rooms and placing bags high in sealed plastic bags?
He’s mentioned before that essential oils like tea tree oil and peppermint and lavender work as a repellent only so never use it for an active infestation just as a prevention tool
Hey Jason how do I get rid of fleas? I have no pets guess I'm bringing them in from outside. What to spray in yard?
Treating fleas in a yard can be tricky because of how their eggs hatch but I would get a granulated pesticide and treat every few weeks
Hi Jason, we are currently taking all your advice and steps to exterminate bed bugs from our home. Our mattress rests on the floor since we have a little one who could fall off, would you say it's okay to keep it on the floor once everything is treated? Thank you

So how do you replace an encasement without releasing the bugs? Unzip a little and spray?

Very well explained! Thank you for the advice and services!
Is box elder bug same as carpet beetle?
My best friend has a problem with these boxelder bugs as well, so what do you recommend for these bugs?
what if i put some cheap plastic sheeting between the mattress and box spring with enough overhang? would that prevent them from getting to me so i could sleep peacefully, at least?
If you’re using crossfire you don’t wanna put anything between you and the bed bugs
@@GreenAkersPC sure, but just for now so i can actually get some sleep until my order arrives, lol. i just ordered two 13oz. bottles of it, was a little under $81.

How much do you charge? I live in Va as well.

What about if you buy a new mattress and leave the plastic cover on it?
The bed bugs will find their way inside the plastic
How much wud u charge me for 1 rm I've had it sprayed by a pro but I'm still gettin bit

Since I have a lot left in that can, here are my questions:
As far as strictly Crossfire treatment, would it be at all effective to leave the encasements on and spray Crossfire where mattress meets box spring, or is there any reason I should not do that? I'm guessing you're going to recommend removing the encasements - I'm just thinking since this seems to be the very end of this infestation maybe it's not necessary? My rationale is that any of the what must be 1-2 bugs crawling from anywhere below the mattress will have to walk through the Crossfire and won't really even make it to me, or will die shortly thereafter if they do. Please let me know what you think - can't wait to be just completely done and past this. Thank you!!!
I'm always using a encasement. But I do check for tears and I have use duck tape to cover it.
Duct tape won’t stop bed bugs
Thank You for the Tip.👍
