chevy dropping the glass through the drum stand remains the single funniest moment in a music video that i’ve ever seen. love this song, adore this video, obsessed with paul only coming up to chevy’s shoulder, immaculate vibes for an immaculate song
Us 80s kids were truly blessed to experience this music first time round. Every radio station had this track playing, and everyone in earshot was either tapping their feet, singing along, or doing a little dance. Truly was the best of times.
Sang this with my bro on a night out. He died at 40… coming up to 5 years now, i love this song now i have just turned 40, its a song i must sing with out him 😊
As some one that is 5'2" I've always looked up to paul Simon.. 😊loved this video when it came out in the 80s. Now I make my great nephew listen to it.. I'm still taller than him cos hes only 8... but not for long
I love this video! It’s so cool and funny that even though Paul Simon is the singer you hear, you mostly see Chevy Chase’s mouthing along the words as they sometimes simultaneously pretend to be playing instruments.
This makes me think of my dad. He passed away 12 years ago. It’s fascinating how music can take you straight back to memories and make them almost so real again.
omg yes. i remember this video and song from my babyhood in the 80s. heard it by coincidence on a car ride to a work site and it flooded memories back. my father passed 7 years ago. sending my love to you and your family 💖
Paul Simon is not a guy who you usually think of as having a sense of humor, but he is subtly hilarious here. He starts to sing "A man walks down - " but then realizes, to his mild surprise, that he's not the one supposed to be singing. He twiddles his thumbs. When Chevy is "singing" the na-na-na part, the look on Paul's face says he really wants to be singing but he knows he's not supposed to. Great song, and an incredibly fun simple video.
This song was one of my mama's favorite songs. Her life was so painful and she suffered a great deal but this song aways made her smile. I remember her singing it to me and doing silly dances to me when I was down in the dumps. As hard as it was for her, she tried her best to never let it be hard for me. Such a gem of a song.

Is it just me, or would it be so epic to see Simon and Chase do a long over due reunion and recreate this video! My inner childhood would definitely be ecstatic:)
Why would anyone want a rehash that would likely be inferior to the original as both men are very old and less likely to be as animated? We have the original, what is the point of recreating it when it'd be unlikely to improve on the classic?

Everything about this song is absolutely spiffing and the video's fun too,but listening to it again I was really enjoying the playing by the band of,as far as I'm aware,African musicians.
Yeah best is you dont get to tired from hearing it 😊. (Short Joke: what do Albert Georg Harold Reginald Montgomery - Fitzbottom say to his Friends? ... ... "You can call me Al") 😂
It only took me 34 years to realize that Chevy "sets" the glass of water on the drum stand thinking it's a side table with a clear glass top... only for it to fall to the ground.
Lol especially with the way Chevy Chase raises his head as he’s singin it, I was 4 years old when this video came out and I thought Chevy was Paul Simon 😂

At 4:18 Paul Simon can’t help but smile when Chevy Chase shoves the trumpet right in his face. I love their chemistry and humor so much. this video and song are amazing.
Love this song: The names in the song came from an incident at a party that Simon went to with his then-wife Peggy Harper. French composer and conductor Pierre Boulez, who was attending the same party, mistakenly referred to Paul as "Al" and to Peggy as "Betty", inspiring Simon to write a song.

I still, after all these years, love the quiet comedic genius that was displayed in this video.
Yes... very much so. Chevy chase is a very clever and funny man.
Yeap. Chevy was never one doing the "loud" stunts, he just... was. And at his best, you could have a good time watching him do his comedy, without even laughing that much. One of the greats, for sure.
I still come back to this video and it always brings me smile!

Oh your that LandShark M/Fer...
At 1:57...Chevy goes to place the glass of water on the table and it falls to the floor. Absurdist humor at its finest!
0:14 Paul Simon was like, "I was supposed to be the one singing"
Favorite bit: at about 4:19 Chevy shoves the bell of that trumpet right in Paul's face and just for a second, Paul breaks character.
Apparently, Chevy was just not quite tall enough! (But he's still plenty tall.)
Thanks! I was wondering if that was Chevy Chase!
He really did. Brilliant! XD
Have watched this so many times and never noticed that.
That’s my favorite part too!
chevy dropping the glass through the drum stand remains the single funniest moment in a music video that i’ve ever seen. love this song, adore this video, obsessed with paul only coming up to chevy’s shoulder, immaculate vibes for an immaculate song
Yes lol!!!!! 💜 😆🤣
Him dropping the glass gets a little funnier when you realize he did the same thing at 2:35
HOW did I miss this?! hahahah xD
I was hoping there were more like me out there in the world 😂
And to think his college roommate wanted Chevy to join his band as a drummer.
He would have been a founding memeber of Steely Dan . . .
Us 80s kids were truly blessed to experience this music first time round.
Every radio station had this track playing, and everyone in earshot was either tapping their feet, singing along, or doing a little dance.
Truly was the best of times.
I’m jealous but glad we can play it anytime and as many time we want, because I’m in love with this song❤
It was an age of true bliss without all of the "social demands" of today. Beautiful!

Eso es verdad..
Amazing times 😊👍
So very sad to hear that, due to his hearing loss this is one of the songs he will never perform again. Paul Simon is magic.
Getting Chevy Chase to do the music video was pure genius. It sold the whole crazy premise.
Chevy AND Rick Moranis without glasses lip-synching for Paul Simon lol
Nailed it so very true!! Excellent work.
So agree x
That would be the genius of Lorne Michaels

I love this video! It’s so cool and funny that even though Paul Simon is the singer you hear, you mostly see Chevy Chase’s mouthing along the words as they sometimes simultaneously pretend to be playing instruments.
It's amazing. They maybe spent $2,500 to produce this whole video. And this is the most entertaining 5 minutes I've had in months.
It's pure class
And Paul Simon made this just to show Art Garfunkel he can do something without Garfunkel
Most likely a lot more than that, Chevy had to have been paid at SAG rates
@@Erri_17 Paul Simon was his own man long before this.
2500$ for a Chevy Chase appearance?! That'd be a steal i feel like lol

One of my earliest memories of my childhood...my mom LOVED this song🥰🥰🥰
yeah we watched the video too Mike! lol
Funny video. The look on Paul's face near the end when he turns and almost gets hit in the face with Chevy's trumpet, he almost starts laughing.
He was in a Woody Allen film. He knew humor.
@@richiebear1969 Yeah Paul always had a dry sense of humor. Remember when he appeared on SNL in a turkey costume?
This song was one of my mama's favorite songs. Her life was so painful and she suffered a great deal but this song aways made her smile. Spelling: Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Joseph Shabalala was the founder of Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
The group was organized in the early 1960s and was named for Mr. Shabalala's hometown, Ladysmith; the black oxen on his family's farm; and the Zulu word for ax, mambazo, which served as a symbol of the group's sharp harmonies and ability to cut down the competition.
