My 2nd year of college I had a '65 with the V6. The oil pressure gauge and eng temp were the only gauges that worked. An axe handle was my gas gauge. I drove it to and from college in Florida, home was northern Vermont. The winter of '80 I was going home for Christmas and hit a blizzard in NJ. Being a typical nor'easter is was bad all through New England. Freezing temps (0-15 degrees) and snowing like there was no tomorrow. Around Mass. the engine started sputtering, still ran but wasn't really happy. When I got to White River Junction in Vermont it would idle, barely, and I didn't dare turn it off while getting gas. I finally made it home after another 3 hours because the Jeep would only go about 40mph. My Dad told me to pull it into the Garage. Once there I popped the hood. The carb was almost completely frozen closed, and the engine was covered in ice from the deep snow I was driving through. The battery had frozen and split. The radiator was frozen solid and ruptured as well. But the freeze plugs were intact. Probably the first time a Jeep was "air-cooled". I've had 5 Jeeps. This one was the best and my baby. NEVER let me down.
That’s nice. The ol V6 was a good engine. I can’t drive a CJ5 because I’m too tall but maybe with the tilt column I could get in 😂. I owned a 82 CJ7 and loved it. That’s super clean and rust free. How much did you pay for it??
Always funny to see 1966 CJ-5's with a numerically higher VIN than my 1967 CJ-5, This one is 2000 units past mine (8305 A 211XXX). The odd-fire V6 does have a distinctive sound.

Thats badass. Glad this video could bring back those memories.
..... That's a great story ... Sounded like what we all wanted to hear... That like a Timex watch... Your Jeep took a licken and kept on ticken .....

The CJ5 was intro’d in 1955, wasn’t it? I know the 3b was intro’d in 53. I know they bought the buick V6 rights and started producing those in 65
