    _Verrrry_ nice and very smoooooth.
I've been running a hotrod (Kenne Bell equipped, MSD, too much carb, headers....) 225 'Odd Fire' in my ol' Flatfender for over a decade.
    Good stuff.

Awesome Jeep! That Dauntless looks fresh out of the box. ;-) Great Job.

Genuine question, I just got a cj5 with the dauntless. Field find, is the chattering noise that almost sounds like valve clatter normal? I think mine sounds similar to yours except a million years older looking and nowhere near as clean.

Wow what a great rebuild. Complete with the oil bath air cleaner. 225 right?

'Dauntless' was a Buick 225 'Odd Fire' with heavier flywheel, factory installed in Jeeps from 1965 - 71 and built by Kaiser - Jeep after 1967 as they had bought rights and tooling for the peppy little V6. It would be sold back in 1974 to GM by AMC as they preferred to use their own inline 6 in Jeep products, the last 'stock' V6 Jeep having been a 1971 model.
Its roots trace to 1962 as the Buick 198 V6 'Fireball' which was a shortened, iron block, version of the Aluminum Buick 215 V8 of 1961 - 63. With two holes basically having been cut off of a 90 degree V8 yet with crankshaft journals still shared by two cylinders each, ignition timing went from 120 - 120 - 120... to the distinctive loping 'Odd Fire' idle of 90 - 150 - 90 - 150 - 90 - 150. Displacement was increased to 225 for the 1964 model year.
Three years after GM had repurchased the 225 it was modified to 'even fire' by splitting the crank journals and displacement would again increase to 231 cubic inches. The engine lived on, rebadged as 3.8 liter in 1978 and later reengineered as the '3800' from 1998 until the last was built in August, 2008.
There were several 'High Performance' variants throughout Buick V6 production, all RWD versions make excellent 'donor engines' for Early Jeep Universals (CJ).

@@-oiiio-3993 awesome info! My father bought a 69 cj5 new and kept it. He gave to my brother 5 years ago. Love the sound of that old odd fire engine! He rebuilt it in 1984 and put in solid state ignition out of a newer Buick engine. That little engine has a lot of torque and we used to out climb v8 jeeps with it. It was just easier with its gearing(we added a overdrive to the 3 speed) and the odd fire engine to put more power to the ground, without spinning the wheels!
