3300s are grenades, but I stand firmly with you on the rest. I've had two 3800s, one supercharged, two 231s, one a t-type that I put the EFI and intercooler stuff from a GN on, and a 225 in a CJ5, all of which I flogged mercilessly, all of which still ran flawlessly when I sold them. Two things: why did you choose a clip of a badly rod-knocking 3800 series I to show? And also, the N/A 3800 didn't make 240 horsepower, that was the supercharged one (the one in my Regal GS made 248 to the wheels with a pulley, a throttle body, an exhaust and a tune). Great, under-appreciated motors every one. Plus my T-Type and Regal GS were both genuinely fast while being comfortable, inconspicuous, reliable, and kind of shockingly efficient (I averaged 23 mpg in the old turbo and 26 in the GS if I drove them responsibly). I even think they mostly sounded pretty good, and V6s almost always sound TERRIBLE. No replacement for a big, burly V8, but fantastic for a daily driver.

I love the 225 odd-fire V6, I've had 2 of them both in a 1970 & 1970 Arrow-glass ski boats. Bulletproof engines, great torque, could pull up 2 skiers out of the water instantly. They do have a unique sound compared to the 231 v6.

Unfortunately, for that poor l36, it'll knock like that for a long time. The buick v6 is one of the most durable engines out there. Why do you think AMC bought the design and put em in jeeps. Kickass. Love my lil 3300.

    • @-oiiio-3993
      @-oiiio-3993 ปีที่แล้ว

      AMC did the exact opposite.
Kaiser had purchased the 'Fireball' V6 from Buick in 1966, manufactured and installed them in Jeep products through 1970 as the 'Dauntless'. When AMC purchased Jeep they stretched the CJ's nose to accept the AMC inline six and sold the V6 back to GM.
I run a 225 'Odd Fire' in my ol' Flatfender (titled as '46 Willys), Kenne Bell equipped, MSD, fat headers, too much carb, 4 speed with Warn overdrive... . It's the perfect engine for an early Jeep.

The L36 never made 240 hp, the L67 did. The L36 made 200 since it was the N/A version. The L36 also has higher compression, and weaker rods. The series 2 3800 L67 is where it’s at. Series 1 was never very good, and series 3 wasn’t around for too long.

Love the 3300. Open the system up and give some air to breath and get rid of nasty ass cat in the exahaust and give it a small cherry bomb or a rice cooker. I. I have smoked alot of v8 that was supposed to be bad and hadsome say they know better than to try . what alot of people dont realize that's a little tourqe monster. It's making more torque than hp. And one tough little engine .. Ive had a few well over 4hundred thousand on the engine and dog the he'll out of them .

I've heard the chole is in the valve covers. Do you know if buying aftermarket OEM covers will help it breathe, or if the L36 SII covers will fit? Not looking for huge power, just want it to breathe a little better.
