Hi BAM animation dudes! So almost a a year ago when I first started watching your videos, I was in a slump because my foundation skills weren't that great. Watching videos like this really helped me a lot and I applied these tips to help enhance my portfolio. Last week I got my first freelance job from a studio and just wanted to say thanks for making very helpful videos like this one! I just finished taking a perspective class, so it was nice to see how you applied these tools as well. So to anyone else that is reading this comment, practice these skills , it is very helpful!! Edit: Thanks for sending the love!
The Mary Sue OC at the end LOLOLOL omg. Thanks for the commitment to making education free. After wasting thousands at university and earning a diploma of burnout, you've inspired me to keep learning.
I’ve never seen tutorials like this with such amazing production and detailed information all the while continually capturing the attention of the viewer. Next level TH-cam content served here!
Really great to see a perspective video, so many people jump in and draw art/background without being able to block out basic shapes in perspective which hurts them greatly. Also I recommend toonboom harmony/storyboard as they both now have perspective tools that you can snap your cursor too, as well as clip studio paint which also has native perspective tools. If you only work in photoshop you can also get lazy nezumi (paid plugin) which has built in perceptive tools as well. A few other perspective tips that could be covered in future videos: center of object by drawing an X from corner to corner (if you need something in the center). Scaling things in perspective (say a person up close scaled size wise into the background, or repeating objects). I highly recommend Perspective for comicbook artists by David Chelsea as well! Happy anniversary :D!
The tip about how to decide what grid to use is a lifesaver. I studied perspective at art school and literally NOBODY told me this. I struggled because I was missing that most vital clue! Thank you SO much!
I dropped out of majoring in entertainment design because I could not understand perspective at the time haha (nearly 10 years ago) but I can’t believe this 13 minute video fundamentally shifted my understanding of perspective! Amazing. I do graphic design and a little motion now but this makes me feel like maybe there’s a chance I can dabble back in to modern animation :-)
I remember watching this video for the first time when I was a sophomore struggling to learn how to draw... I'm now referring back to remember how to make perspective grids for a freelance storyboard project I'm working on. This whole TH-cam channel has helped me so much in developing my passion for animation and getting started in my career. Hats off to you guys! thanks!
I’ve been working as an animation concept artist for 10 years and didn’t know some of these photoshop tricks, great tut! Always good to refresh yourself on the fundamentals too
You guys are *AMAZING*!!! During college, I never felt encouraged to create stories through my drawings (I'm a fashion designer, we basically draw really skinny people in the same 2 poses), and always wanted to learn more about animation, but never really knew how. You guys are seriously helping me to release creative sides of me that I didn't know how I could release them. So, I'm really thankful for all the advice and the effort you guys put into every single video. Can't wait for my Wacom to come home and create as many universes I can with it! 💗🌟
Soooooo you guys were able to tell me about a topic that NOBODY could properly explain in a way that makes sense, this includes art teachers. It’s astounding how a good perspective can add so much life to a piece. I guess in a way it’s like being a photographer, you have to find the right perspective to make something more appealing. Thank you guys for the tips! Instant sub
I have been sifting through youtube to find a comprehensive video on perspective. I feel like a lot of other videos on the topic forget to mention the very basic concepts on the topic, such as where to put the horizon line for certain effects, what the difference is in putting vanishing points close together or far apart, you did an incredible job. Thank you so much
Not only did I learn loads -- I, a completely non-drawer, now feel I could almost kinda do this (at least make grids!!) Off to do some homework! Oh, and as always, you're so freaking funny. When mom laughs, everyone is happy. :)
Oh my god this video is so comprehensive yet easy to understand- I love how much info is included without being overwhelming for any artist^^ I’m immediately in love with your channel, thank you so much!!
OH MY GOD that stairway cheat was amazing. I've been using every other cheat apart from this one fore years, and i was constructing stairs by hand for some reason. Thank you guys!!!
This is THE most simple and easier perspective video i have seen till date. Not to mention that you cramped so much more in there than just perspective. It is one year worth of foundation learning into animation. Hats off!
Another excellent video. Requires rewatching to soak everything up. I had never even thought of using photoshop's free transform tool the way you show it... It seems so obvious now. And I had never thought about making a bajillion lines to start with... I'd always just drawn the ones that directly connect to whatever I was drawing. These sorts of tips are invaluable and I've not seen them anywhere else. Seeing this makes me sad that there aren't more channels like this. It's rare to get someone(s) who is working in their industry, is good at it, takes time to learn new things, AND takes time to teach things. The only other guy I can think of is AVE. (Arduino vs Evil) In my case, I feel that I've gotten back more than twice what I've put out in terms of knowledge, when it comes to my tutorials. Have you guys learned anything valuable from your audience?
I studied animation at uni and we didn't get a single class on perspective so I'm very grateful for this video, still find it confusing when I'm actually drawing myself, but hoping it will merge into my brain and make sense soon!
Holy crap, three Topics from 3 different teachers easy explained in 13min with Tips that went much further than the stuff our teachers were ready to share. Even watching the video several times to get everything is time well spend. Thanks guys
What a glorious compilation. I have learned more of this subject than in my 8 years of art education. It was brilliantly edited, so it was very enjoyable to watch too, thank you so much for your effort. You make internet great.
I'm new today but I think this is right where I need to be. Two yrs ago, my private art institute was closed forever & it left me devastated. But to my shock I passed both classes w A's. I am a visual learner & your tutorials are just what is needed provided that you are social & interact w your viewers much like in actual class.

wow this was very informative! most people just show "oh yes this is how you make 1/2/3 point perspective," AND JUST THAT, but you actually shown how to make it, shown applications of it and how to construct them and even improved artwork from other people! so much to learn from here
Don't usually comment on youtube but I just had to. Been following you guys since you started this youtube channel and you've inspired me to draw and learn the fundamentals all over again! Much love for what you guys are doing.
years of research and finding tips for 'specific' drawing on youtube, and here these guys taught all that in just few minutes. where were you all this time? thank you!
I'm not even that old, I graduated high school in 2010 but this is blowing my mind. I had to do soooo much perspective drawing by hand and it made me hate it because it was so frustrating. This is so more efficient in digital art and I am so happy I found this.
I've always wondered how illustrators create such wonderful backgrounds and I think this pretty much answered everything. As someone who wasted money and time at art school, I learned more from this episode alone than... nm I'm depressed now.
Im so so so so so glad i can understand english. There has never been ANY tutorial on backgrounds more helpful than this video, they werent kidding when they said they were gonna tackle EVERYTHING
the thing is with drawing and painting with/without reference to a real life scene, you can decide and alter how true you want it to be to reality (eg. like in color and value, proportion, variation, cropping etc.), even if you're keeping it within realism, and especially if the changes would yield a "better" visual design, or is more appropriate for what youre trying to say with the image. Nothing is sacred
I can’t believe this information is free, I feel almost guilty for not paying anything this is literally GOLD! Helping so many artist out there I’m a new fan of this channel!!! ❤️❤️❤️
This video just made my night. I've recently switched to digital art and I was struggling with finding the vanishing point again when I moved them off the live area each time I made a new guide line. Having a vector controlled VP and GL is amazing and so helpful. Thank you!
1:58 1. Click the shape tool 2. Change it to the "Polygon tool" 3. Edit properties of the Polygon tool 4. Change Path to Shape 5. Change it to no fill (White box with red line) 6. thank you so much for this! i've been struggling in art uni since they don't really talk much about how perspective work, just told us what to draw and I've been having a hard time, you guys a live saver

Oh my gosh, as someone who was going broke paying for Skillshare and PluralSight and art books with Amazon every week, this is like a LITERAL God send. Like, God came down from the heavens and pointed at this video from over my shoulder and said "Behold, proof of my love" with a resounding thunderclap from above. I'm going to watch this over and over and over again and try dozens of backgrounds! I have Photoshop for photo-editing and both Clip Studio Paint and Paint Tool Sai for drawing, but I'm going to try my hand at drawing in Photoshop...Or more likely, try to make these grids in CSP XD I haven't figured out how to get my wacom pen to work well with Photoshop yet. Thank you so much for sharing such critical knowledge with us lowly, poor artistic souls! You truly show us that... ...not all heroes wear capes.
btw with the new photoshop update for creating the 1 point grid, you have to click the gear icon and then change the star ratio to 1%, everything else that they mentioned it the same though
2:15 I'm sorry WHAT KIND OF SORCERY- That was so beautiful, I've been struggling trying to make a grid and then you just did THAT THAT WAS FANTASTIC I'M IN TEARS
As a non-digital artist, i am going to resort needles and string. Really though, this video has been amazing. I can remeber watching it a few years ago, but that was back when i only drew people. As of now, i am planning on starting a comic. it serves as both a fun hobby, and a good way to imrpove my art. so far, i have found backgrounds to be increasingly difficult. This video has helped, and im sure it will decrease my pain greatly.

the thing is with drawing and painting with/without reference to a real life scene, you can decide and alter how true you want it to be to reality (eg. like in color and value, proportion, variation, cropping etc.), even if you're keeping it within realism, and especially if the changes would yield a "better" visual design, or is more appropriate for what youre trying to say with the image. Nothing is sacred
i swear every hong kong building is identical except for 2 things: type of air conditioner hanging outside of the window and color

Dude I was just stressing about this! You guys saved me lots of time hahaha
Omg I fall asleep and you guys release another video....✨
Going back to sleep to see if this trick works again 🤔
This video just made my night. I've recently switched to digital art and I was struggling with finding the vanishing point again when I moved them off the live area each time I made a new guide line. Having a vector controlled VP and GL is amazing and so helpful. Thank you!

Two uploads in a day? It's not even Christmas yet, ya' nerds
thank you so much for this! i've been struggling in art uni since they don't really talk much about how perspective work, just told us what to draw and I've been having a hard time, you guys a live saver
youtube is kinda unthanklful.. great editing, great ideas, great useful tips, real actual talent (unlike your typical view-reaping trash-content-producing youbue-"TALENT" that only got famous cause luck and/or cause attractive).. why does this channel not have a million subs yet after almost 2 years??

This channel is the absolute best resource that I've found for insight into animation. As somebody trying to be a self-taught animator, this channel has been a god-sent.
I hope these two make a million dollars each off of this channel.
BACK AT IT AGAIN BOYS
This is probably the best video about perspective that I have ever seen. Thank you! -sincerely, an artist that doesn't know anything about perspective
I died at the last bit. omg. i feel like i did that when i sent my character to you lol. Sorry
btw with the new photoshop update for creating the 1 point grid, you have to click the gear icon and then change the star ratio to 1%, everything else that they mentioned it the same though
legend!
Thank you! I’m not doing digital art but this video is immensely helpful since the rules and tips apply no matter what medium.
Awesome video guys ♥ Thank you
2:15 I'm sorry WHAT KIND OF SORCERY-
That was so beautiful, I've been struggling trying to make a grid and then you just did THAT
THAT WAS FANTASTIC I'M IN TEARS
As a non-digital artist, i am going to resort needles and string.
Really though, this video has been amazing. I can remeber watching it a few years ago, but that was back when i only drew people. As of now, i am planning on starting a comic. it serves as both a fun hobby, and a good way to imrpove my art. so far, i have found backgrounds to be increasingly difficult. This video has helped, and im sure it will decrease my pain greatly.
Yeah... But do you have any perspective grids we can just download? That'd help.
try downloading a perspective grid brush, 1 click and you are done
@@giawhytho5481 Thank you for that link, the site is amazing!
nah man, i just need the secret brush that makes you a pro
how lazy are you? where did you downloaded your free breathing app?
@@drinkwoter there's no secret brushes. You just need to find a brush that you feel comfortable to use. Try different sizes and opacity. Then, test it out. You'll find your brush for your art like that ^^
Wow just found your channel and I love your energy here! SUBSCRIBED!
came for photoshop perspective hacks, learned 1 point, 2 point, fish eye perspective, atmospheric shading, etc etc. man i subbed
Heard about this on tik tok

Same am not gonna lie thanks to the TikTok, I found this channel and most definitely subscribing.

I WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS
I wish this youtube channel was around when I was in college, SO many classes reinventing the wheel or being unnecessarily complicated. Thank god I didn't pay out of pocket for school and got financial aid for all of it because it was a waste of time.
This video made my head hurt I learned so much
Imagine being in tons of debt to art school and then seeing this channel lmao. This was great.
well at least with the skills you get from watching this channel. you'll be able to pay back that debt. but just imagine a career as "performance artist" though LOL
BaM Animation im reminded of a quote from a lampshade “eh, its a livin”.
But really I never learned about this stuff in school so its much appreciated
I'm currently in Digital Media Arts--our instructor posted this video to help us learn perspective (or give us some perspective LOL). I've been practicing art for many years and have done several exercises with perspective, but this video was a lot of fun to watch!
Lmfao the OC at the end 😂 Every anime fan's first OC
about to graduate art school and now this is when perspective clicks for me?...
Thanks for making these very informative videos on art for free, in a era where nothings free. love the work, much appreciated
okay tiktok, i’m here! let’s hope i learn a lot 🤗
Milo sent me here :D
same haha!
Yeah lmfaoo

Thank you so much for this, perspective has been the bane of my existence for the longest time. You have a great style of teaching, very easy to understand and follow.
Why, why, why are you guys so f***ing amazing?!
Thank you so much, broze. Yah, that's "bro" plural, man. It's a thing. 😀👍🏽❤
guess who's back, back again, Bam is back, tell a friend!
I always go back to this video cuz it saved my life lol. How exactly perspective grids works always had a hard time "clicking" in my head like yes of course I knew what it was in art, but I couldn't comprehend how to use it, even with tutorials (Besides like basic boxes lol) But then I found this specific video that displays it in a scene and with different styles/examples like thanks yall 😭
my technique is :
1 - search a photo in the perspective that you want
2 - trace it
Oh my gosh sAME

Thats smart, but some people will notice and think youre tracing,
Sorry if i missed a joke.
@@playitcoolman7820 it isnt a joke and what by "tracing" it means figuring out the perspective
