Thanks and great job!!!
Without a doubt the most thorough review. Great playing as well. I was on the fence with purchasing this pedal until now. Thanks for your work on this.

THE Best Darkside Demo! Showing settings, no talkn. More pedal demos should be like this! The Darkside has been in a cart cause I knew i was gonna get one. Ordering one now. And not for just the Floyd stuff. Thanks
@@philspill6854 I'm just waiting for the DCR to reach the stores in Australia, where I live. That pedal has everything I love about effects - drives, mods, and an insert! I'd get the DDR but I have plenty reverb/delay options. The DCR+Dark Side would be a great combo. I'd love to run the Drive after the Fuzz as a boost. That Fuzz is good but I found it really started to shine when I placed a mild, mid-pushed OD after the Dark Side to boost and tone-shape. Man I wish Robert would re-release the V1 with the insert or, even better, a V3 with the ability to run Fuzz+Mods+Delays *and* include the insert, as in the V1. It might mean the pedal would have to be a bit larger, and more expensive, but it'd be worth it.
You just earned a sub and I just ordered a dark side. Thanks to your awesome dedication and elaboration on the guts of this beast. I’m a Gilmour fan as much as the next guy but these tones and sounds just make the £280 pound so worth it. Thanks man!!
Phenomenal video. I'm trying to understand how you do not have substantially more subscribers on your channel. I pick up my Dark Side pedal this afternoon, with thanks to you for a fantastic run through of the pedals capabilities. Fantastic playing !

Brilliant dialing in the fades without a foot pedal! I'm going to have to grease the volume potentiometer on my strats which are kind of old and gummy. Very tasteful playing through out your video. wow that's an awesome explanation, loved it! I'm sure I'll be watching this video for a lot of times until I master the use on my pedal. Thank you man!
So, I got one of these a few weeks ago and the options are almost limitless. Even within the same effect, the adjustability is huge. Oh - and the Fuzz is monstrously powerful (even with settings at 12 o,clock). Just huge!!
Where would this ideally go in a pedalboard ? Usually modulation / and delays go at the end however with the fuzz component, I’m not sure. Usually fuzz pedals go near the beginning of a board.
The exact placement would depend on your personal preference and pedal chain. But, I'd probably start by placing it after your drive section (and before the reverb pedal).
I have yet to hear any guitar multi effects unit that approximates the delay in Run Like Hell anywhere even remotely as well as my 30+ year old Oberheim GM 1000. Look it up.
Ok. You can get all those sounds, but will you be changing settings between each song? I don't think so...It needs to be able to save different settings.
Really great review. I just got this pedal .. Any shot u remember what amp settings and input on the amp u used? And what volume level on the guitar do you suggest? Thx!
Hey Michael congrats on the new pedal! Used a Deluxe Reverb in this vid, would've been plugged into the first input of the Vibrato channel. Volume no higher than 3. Treble and Bass around noon. Nothing fancy. Definitely mess around with the guitar volume, you can get wonderful clean tones by kicking the fuzz in and rolling down the volume on your guitar. Have fun!!
I read the only thing this pedal lacks is a solid Delay sound? Is that true? Could you also perhaps run the Dark Side into another processor, or just add a Boss Delay on the end, before the amp? Gilmour uses a ton of delay most of the time. P.S. Nevermind, clearly the pedal does have various Echo/Delay sounds, inspired by the good old Echorec. I dunno why someone complained about it then. You can always still add a Digital or Analog Delay after it.
The delay in the Dark Side is pretty great. But, if you'd like more control, or if you already have other pedals/delays, you can absolutely run the Dark Side into other pedals, no worries there. Cheers 🥃
@@ElectricMojoGuitarsI see, that's fantastic. I was just wondering. I dunno though why someone claimed the pedal lacks delay at all, when clearly it not only does, but it's modeled on Floyd's famous use of the EchoRec and other gizmos. Honestly I woudn't even have expected that, siince most players use their own favorite delay pedals or rack delays or whatever. Anyway I'm hoping to buy one of these beauties at some point.
The Darkside doesn't let you use multiple modulations at the same time. You could blend delay and fuzz (but couldn't blend delay and uni-vibe for example, as those are on the same side).

Are you running your pedal through the effects loop or out in front??
In front.
The intro to this sounds like tangerine dream from the risky business soundtrack...
I remember when Jon Matlock and Buzz Capra joined Mets.
Are you going into the front of the amp?
Yes, I think Stu's going into the front of the amp for this demo :)
Can you share the backtrack?
Stu makes his own backing tracks. Send him an email, maybe he still has the file: stu@stuweinberg.com 👍
Does this go directly into the amp? Is the amp set clean for best pink floyd-esque simulation? What if one does not have a pass-through in the amp?
Yes. The Dark Side's plugged straight into a Fender Deluxe Reverb. The amp's mic-ed with a Shure SM57.

The Darkside doesn't let you use multiple modulations at the same time. You could blend delay and fuzz (but couldn't blend delay and uni-vibe for example, as those are on the same side).

what about the solo of comfortably numb? is it makable with this machine?
Yup. Gilmour used a Big Muff and a Rotary speaker cab for the Comfortably Numb solo. Both are found in the Dark Side.
Is he using any effects other than the Dark Side pedal?
Yes, only the Dark Side is used in this demo.
