    In this video I give a quick overview of snowboard flex, breaking down some of the main benefits you will find in the various levels of flex. I break flex down into 5 levels: soft, softer side of medium, medium, stiffer side of medium and stiff. I think these categories still make sense on a scale from 1-10 where each category could have 2 different levels. Other factors such as the snowboards camber profile can make a difference in how a snowboard flexes and feels, but I didn't want to get too detailed in this video, just a quick overview. I hope it helps you out, thanks for watching!

    Got the Bataleon Disaster this year and it’s perfect for a softer flex. It’s about a 3.5/10 but it’s a positive camber so it still has some good pop. Def recommended. You can butter really easily and still crank some high speeds.

    Jones rated the 2019 ultra mountain twin with 9/10 flex. It looks like the construction is the same than the last year but they changed the number of the flex from 7 to 9. I got the board last year (2018 version) thinking it would be more mid-flex but it's a damn stiff piece of wood...

    Think about moving to a Freethinker from a Regular Custom Camber. Not sure if I wanna get the 154 like my custom, or get the 150. I'm like 135 pounds 5',7" size 10 boot. I'm on a 156 Berzerker for pow days and steep stuff. And I have a Betaleon Airbic 151 for jibbing, But I want aq really solid park board to hit big stuff and pipe. I also like to charge as fast as humanly possible on blacks. I've had about 80 days on my custom, and I want a true twin. Was thinking about mercury or a jackpot but I don't like this year graphic. 154 free thinker or 150 free thinker

    Hi Tj, thanks so much for the video. I have been wondering about the flexibility of snowboards. I am a lightweight girl (110 lb to 120 lb) and ride a Burton Lux 40. I found my board really stiff for me. I have a hard time trying to bend my board when I tried on the carpet. I wonder if the stiffness is relative to weigh as well? Of course, it's also a matter of how strong of a rider I am.

    • @ammakko
      @ammakko 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it is mainly relative to your weight. You are not going to bend the board with your muscles, but with your pounds and speed. That's why for a given snoboard model you have different sizes with a range of "rider weight"

    • @taylorpower3862
      @taylorpower3862 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @BoardArchive
      @BoardArchive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      stiffer boards and camber boards are easier to catch your edge with when you're starting out. A softer flex with some rocker towards the tips will help. Also, try to keep a little weight on your toe or heel edge at all times when riding. If you go full flat base its much more likely to catch

    How does length effect flex? Usually ride a 148 ride kink but considering a 151. I'm 5'7" snowboarding for 25+yrs shorter board = less mass to spin on the ends and less weight over the tips to press?

    • @Daz555Daz

      Length for boards is usually tuned to a rider weight so within a range of sizes in a particular model the boards get stiffer as the length increases because the recommended rider weight increases.
