When my dad started teaching me how to snowboard back in 2014, we went to a Ski Swap and found a 2012 Lib Tech T Rice C2 Power Banana that was perfectly sized for me at 155 (And it still is to this day, because i haven't grown an inch even though I'm 23 now) that ended up being the board I learned to ride on.
With the experience I have with it now, I do not recommend it to beginners. I had a really tough time learning to ride on it. Lib Tech classifies it as an advanced level all mountian freestyle board and for good reason. It's a stiff board with a lot of pop that lends itself more to park riding than it does trails, but can be used comfortably on both once you get used to it because of its magnetraction. The main reason I don't recommend it to beginners is that once you do get used to it, you won't want to ride anything else.
My dad is a Burton fan, and his main board for years has been his 2004 Burton Seven. We swapped boards once after I had finally learned how to ride pretty well, and I just didn't like the way full camber felt. To this day I still ride that same 2012 Lib Tech because it's the only board style I feel comfortable on. Even my dad was amazed at how well my board could carve on hard icy snow due to the magnetraction and Hybrid profile.
But yeah, definitely don't start with an advanced level board like me unless your fine with the possibility of never wanting to use a different style board ever again.

The apex orca is definitely a powder board. Same exact shape as the standard orca just different materials in the construction

Ive been looking at athe aeronaut for my next board. I camt decixe between that or the DOA. Or even the lib tech golden orca. Ive also been looking at forums new boards. I rode them back in the day. I might get the freeride 002 with the new forum union force bindings. Thats a dope setup if you ask me!!.

Absolutely love how you called out directional boards can be ridden backwards and actually ride forward better than twins ride either direction… so many people say they want twin just to ride backwards man… personally a big fan of having a twin and a directional in the quiver!
It's funny too because those same people would not be riding switch more than maybe 5% of the time. You wouldn't believe how many people in the shop need to be convinced that they would have a better time on a directional board.
@@SearchofSnowboarding I get it man... 7 years ago I bought a twin for the same reason and ride it switch 5% of the time :) Don't get me wrong, I love my twin to this day and just bought a new one, but you can ride a directional backwards just fine man.

@@Shane.C that’s a great idea man… you’re probably a pretty well rounded rider. I love my 189s and nose rolls, I just typically only ride switch for a few turns after landing the trick before going back to regular… switch is a work in progress for sure…

My opinion on width has always been to go with wide, makes it more floaty in powder and less likely for heel drag on aggressive carves as you progress. I only have 8.5 size feet but always got wides. Buuut I’m also a crazy person who after 13 year of intense seasons went with a custom made snowboard that has a 32.5cm waist lol
Holy crap, I didn't know it was even possible to make a board that wide!
I prefer wide so I can get way up on my edge then skid through the turn to rapidly loose speed just like when you fly an airplane in a crab configuration. That's probably whats wrong with my riding I learned to fly first.

You would be fine learning how to ride switch on the Custom, but it is always nice to get a new boards too 😁. The Skeleton Key is super fun for sure

The Terrain Wrecker and T Rice will be more similar to each other because of the hybrid camber. The Dynamo will want to charge a little harder for all mountain because of the camber. I would decide first which camber profile you would want to ride first and then go from there.
You probably don't get questions like this very often. I'm 67, I have been riding for about 25 years in the Northeast but not more than about 10 times a year. I have been riding a Gnu Rider's Choice C2/Btx for about 10 years, it has worked pretty good for me on the very hard or soft groomed trails. I used to also go into parks but not really any more at my age... I want to make it to 80. Although I like my board, for most of my riding now I am noticing I often feel like I'm riding on the middle 1/3 of the board, it's great, I haven't caught an edge for years, but when I want to get moving I feel a little unstable, like I could just spin in circles even more so at slow speeds. My question should I switch to more camber like maybe a Jones Mtn Twin or just a newer C2 board like a gnuer gnu or maybe a lib tech Travis Rice pro? I don't want something that requires too much work or strength.... I'm old.
I wish I knew about you earlier I was out at Snowmass in late January and my board was not bad in the powder in the trees and sides despite my almost total lack of opportunity for powder at home. Awesome, glad it was helpful! You might find that the newer C2's are more what you're looking for, and the T Rice Pro is pretty awesome. The Golden Orca is fun too and this has C2x which means it has a shorter rocker section. If you come back to Aspen you could demo different boards, from Radio Boardshop, like these or a camber board like the Mtn Twin or Burton Deep Thinker to see if camber felt all right for you. Hope that helps a little

Great video and great channel in general, binged on a bunch of your videos. I am looking for some advice. I have ridden the same board for years, its the ROME mod rocker 159. I loved the board but after watching a bunch of your videos I am not sure is the right board for me. I only ride 10 / 20 days per season and I am on the south east so I don't have a lot of access to snowboard shops. My board is on its last legs, so im due for a change. I am 5'9" and around 180 lbs and my shoe size is about 9 but i tend to use a 8 size snowboard boot. I am 40 years old and been riding for a while. I can go down pretty much any slope however I consider myself and intermediate / advanced that likes to learn.
The last couple of years I have loving to really carve on a "ryan knapton" style so I have been practicing my switch stance (I am terrible at that for now). Because I want to work on my switch stance, I would like to get a true twin board. After one of your previous videos I think i should go for a cambered board, and since I like to carve I think I would like a "bigger" side cut radius so i could ride that carve longer. I am not much of a park fan, but i do like the jumps.
From watching your videos I think I want a twin, Cambered, mid flex, 157 to 159 board, with a sidecut between 7.5 and 8. Any recomendations for those specs. After going on some forums I was looking at the TOM SIMS ATV 158 but have not head of that brand before. It has a sidecut of 8.1 and I was kind of afraid it might be too much. Any help / opinion is appreciated.
The ATV is a great board, not too aggressive and really approachable. I would also recommend the Capita DOA, it's got a great mid flex, camber and fun for taking off jumps too. It can be easy to get caught up with all the options out there right now, but know any new board should be a much more enjoyable ride than what you're coming off of. If you're a confident rider and have your fundamentals on point, go with the Mercury. Otherwise go for the Ryagun
Love the video really helped understanding snowboard shapes but im struggling a bit with sizing. Im around 6/6.1 and weigh around 195-200lbs which puts me for most boards in a 159-162 wide but my boot size is 9.5 which means i could easly ride a "normal" width board what would you recommend for me ?
You wouldn't have any issue riding a wide board, most people have been riding wider recently. It's not necessary though for your size. I would recommend checking out the Burton Hometown Hero 160, it would be a good size for you and it's a versatile all mountain board. Boot sizes 11+ should check out wide boards. Also, don’t forget that most boots these days have a bevel at the nose and heel, making it even less likely to be an issue (to boot out). I have 10.5 sometimes, and have no issues riding 25+ waist widths. Unless you are aiming for euro carves it’s hardly an issue really…
I have 8.5 boot size and like carving not eurocarving by any means, but trying out a wide board made all the difference for me. Not just toe and heel drag are gone, but it's just way more stable when carving and it floats better and faster in powder as well..
Definitely would recommend anyone who likes to carve to try a wider board.

They are both made with the same base material, so it's not necessarily a difference in speed. The Apex may be more stable at higher speeds because of it's core construction though

Never summer just released a Big and Tall series which could check out for their Instigator board in a 159. Otherwise the Lib Tech Orca in a 159 or the Ride Warpig in the XL size would be great choice too

Yup, all the blue graphics are the wides, the reds are he regular widths. The only difference is that the wides have a wider waist width to accommodate for larger foot sizes

For sizing, what size is your boot. For camber vs flying v it depends on how you're looking to ride in the future. If you only get out a few times a season and just want a board to make those days easier go Flying V. If you're looking to progress your skills over the next few seasons go with Camber

It works great for All Mountain riding, sometimes twin all mountain boards can also be considered park boards
I am a beginner snowboarder. 2 questions - 1. I am 5’7” @ 158 lbs. - would 148 be too big? 2. Is a burton Flying V board be a good board for a beginner?
No, 148 is not too big, you could even go with a 150 for your weight. Flying V is good to learn on, although that is not a specific model but a camber profile that you can find in multiple board models

Yeah definitely, check out an all mountain. I wouldn't get a Drake. The Pathfinder probably isn't the best board for you either, it's softer and might not be enough board for you. The DOA could be a good choice

It's a decent board, easy going and not too aggressive. You'll be able to ride every terrain ok on that board

Great video! What’s your opinion on the Burton Nug? I bought it in 2013. Very playful. I do find it tricky in icy conditions (I ride in West Quebec, Canada). think it is not produced anymore. I’m curious if the short board technology wasn’t successful.
I would look into getting a new board, technology has changed a lot in ten years. The Nug is so short it is too unstable in most conditions.

Hi, I’ve been snowboarding about 1-2 weeks a year for the past 10 years and I think I’m at a intermediate -advanced level. This year I decided to buy equipment for the first time. And since in Israel we don’t have enough professional stores in this field, I would love for you to give your opinion.
On the seller’s recommendation, I chose the Nidecker Index, Jones Orion Bindings and the Betaleon 20y. The boots were very comfortable for me but then I saw that they are freeride focused, could that be a issue for an all-mountain snowboarder like me? Regarding the board, the seller told me that it is the same as the Bataleon Goliath and that he recommends it, what do you think?

I will never go in fresh snow ( here we only have groomers ) and not really good in park, so only groomers.

Been riding camber my whole life, looking to demo a few boards with either a directional camber, rocker or flat profile for days with more powder. Im accustom to east coast conditions which usually means groomers and ice, but I'd really like something for the rare days where it's a foot of unridden fresh powder. I've been riding a Burton Custom and Burton Custom X for the past 10 years mostly in Stowe, Vermont. Any recs for a powder board that can still handle really well on groomers and packed snow?

Yes it would be, although it is an easy going beginner/ early intermediate board. If you like riding all mountain, steeper runs, and getting up to speed, this board might feel like it is lacking because it has a softer flex

I started snowboarding recently. I am 5'7 (170cm) but only weigh 57kg (125lbs) Shoe size around 41/42 (US 8.5 or 9). I have ridden both a 145cm and 150cm board. I feel something like a 143cm would be best for me but am not too sure. Anyone know what could be best in my case?
I would say 145 would be a pretty good size for you, I don't think you would wan to go much smaller than that
Hello. Could you please help me with this board Raven Lupus. I want to buy the 160w version. I'm 6.3, 215-220 lbs, beginner and after all my search online I think the 160w would be ok given that is also a medium/stiff flex. I want to use it all mountain, not for speed, but for having fun, easy tricks, butters, carve, etc. Would really appreciate your input.
I have never heard of that board before, but getting a board in at least a size 160W will be good for you

Yeah that's a good twin/park board. If you want to ride a little more all mountain you could get a directional board next time to have more fun carving

Absolutely
Do shorter volume shifted boards lose stability at higher speeds vs a longer non volume shifted one?
I tried maxing speed on bataleon party wave and kemper apex so what I’m going to say may not always be true, but if you charge these boards they make you work a touch more to stay flat based than normal boards, plus if you lose control for moment, they will be harder to gain control back. If this is what you call stability then that’s your answer. If by stability you mean how chatty the boards are, the two I mentioned have shovel noses and at high speeds they both flapped. The chatter could be endured, it’s not pleasant, but didn’t make me feel unstable.
For me the width and bouncing from edge to edge at high speed was a higher instability factor than the nose flapping, if that makes sense.

It would also depend on the specific board for you for size, I would look into a volume shifted board like the Ride Warpig or Lib Tech Orca

I’m 6’1, 185lbs, and have a boot size of 11.5. I need a wide board and the one I’m looking at comes in a size 155W which has a waist width of 254mm, and a size 160W which has a waist width of 260mm. Which board size would you recommend for someone who wants to do all mountain park specific boarding?
160W would be much better for your size, you might find 155 is almost too small

Look for a volume shifted board. These are boards that are shorter in length, but have a wider waist. This allows a shorter board to be more stable. Check out the Ride Warpig, the Lib Tech Orca, or the Salomon Dancehaul

The DOA is not a park board. It’s more all mountain.
You can definitely ride it anywhere great, but it is designed to rip the park. It had won numerous Transworld Good Wood Park Board awards in the past

Also check for cracks after a crash. I ruined a lib tech in wyoming I was messing with a leica camera and jammed the nose into the snow and did multiple tamedogs for free. Each time I hit the ground I bounced higher into the air until the grade leveled out
