    Hi, Tim. I live in Cali, Colombia. I am 58 years old. My respects for such a spectacular tutorial. I am starting in this wonderful world of 3D and I learned many things from 3Ds Max and Substance, with which it was the first time I faced, as well as the workflow of a great in this profession. Thank you.

    I just made it! Although I could only create default version, since I'm scared that my computer won't survive Bumblebee version, I'm really pleased that I could follow all steps through, and with literally no knowledge of substance painter whatsoever! I had to use substance painter 2, since my computer can't even load substance painter 2018, which got me scared that I could not follow this amazing tutorial.. Thank you so much and I can't wait for another video!

    Danke Tim for the detailed instruction. These tutorials will definitely help me to get used to substance painter. I am planning to create the thor hammer and texture it in substance painter. When I'll be done I'd be very happy to share it with you on fb. By the way what do you think is it a good idea to create a stylized turntable animation of it with a breakdown for my personal portfolio? I sincerely want to apply at ArtFx, one of the best cg schools in the world which is based in france. Since they recquire a portfolio from applicants I thought to create some hard surface models with good textures and maybe also include some animations to them and do a bit of sculpting too.

    Is there any way to invert the zoom in Substance Painter because the default is kinda fucked up... When i scroll forward it zoom out and when i scroll backward it zoom in but it should be reversed so if i scroll forward it will zoom in and backwards zoom out. So is there any way to change that because that is very disturbing. I have checked the keybindings but i could not find it there...

    Could you explain to me why would you create a normal layer and add fill on it and then select AO map? Is the same thing if you go ahead and only create fill layer and add AO map and set it up to Multiply? What's the difference except you have more control over opacity? BTW Great tutorial no doubt about that.

  • @Siakan1
    @Siakan1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why are we building a high poly model? just to extract the high rez maps? or are we planning to apply the final textures to the high poly model? in that case we would have to unwrap again? Sorry if it is stupid question I am new to this and try to understand how it works

    • @RuthwikRao
      @RuthwikRao 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The low-poly models can squeeze in all those low-height details from the high-poly version by baking them onto a normal map which shall be used by the low-poly version, this way it can get the details from the high-poly without requiring all that additional geometry that the high-poly used for creating the details. Pretty much all games do this today and have been doing it for a while now, and shall continue to do so. :)

    I have just finished modelling and texturing my droid, but am now having trouble rendering in Marmoset 3. Does anyone know how to get the transparent layer to render properly? I have added the opacity map exported from Substance Painter into the Transparency slot in Marmoset, and tried all 4 different modes. The result is either no transparency at all, or the entire model goes transparent

    • @Riddain
      @Riddain 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fixed it! For anyone else having similar issues - I set the Transparency to Refraction, turned Index of Refraction down to 1.0, unchecked Use Microsurface and Albedo Tint, and finally checked Use Albedo Alpha and Invert Mask

  • @romanmendicant6864
    @romanmendicant6864 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tim, why did you have "average normals" checked for the maps baking process? In the akm tutorial you recommend to uncheck it

    • @zaparine
      @zaparine 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's his mistake. You always have to CHECK 'average normals' or the ugly jagged edges will be visible at every corner, giving it away that they aren't actually round. With average normals, your low-poly will show perfectly round edges like the high-poly.

    • @ChamferZone
      @ChamferZone  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Roman, indeed.. that was sadly a mistake on my end when I did the Ultimate Weapon tutorial. I talked about that in the mech tutorial, sadly once something is released I can't just revert those errors but average normals is definitely what you always want to have checked.

    • @romanmendicant6864
      @romanmendicant6864 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      np! I was baking the stuff with average normals unchecked, and everything seemed to be working well :D Being suprised now, how did it work lol

    • @ChamferZone
      @ChamferZone  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not really a big difference but if you zoom in on the UV seams you will see a bit of a visible border :-) The average normal "averages" that out as the name suggests so everything is more smooth.

    does substance painter have UV tools can I throw an OBJ alone into substance painter or do I have to unwrap in another program first?

    • @AwroeCreative
      @AwroeCreative 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to unwrap in your modeling application prior to exporting, I'd suggest doing your UV and lightmaps (if your putting it in a game engine prior to exporting to substance) before as it won't bake down and you will have massive distorition on the mesh(the UV's are used to determine where each face is located) once you've left your modeling app you won't need to go back to it.
