I remember watching the Pope Of Greenwich Village when it 1st came out..i thought that Mickey Rourke & Eric Roberts were gonna be the next Robert De Niro & Al Pacino...it didn't quite work out that way..
That Angel Heart flick didn't pull any punches in any scenes. It was the most incredible mix of suspense, horror and acting. Probably Rourke's best film. It all started going south for him right after this film. And it was sad to watch. He was the best actor of the 80s hands down!
Ego, drugs, alcohol…terrible. He was truly on his way to becoming one of greats & then got into boxing. The WRESTLER should have been his come back, his attitude & possible mental illness derailed any chance of that.
Im a lifelong NYC resident who was born & bred in Greenpoint Brooklyn..& i remember the filming of Year Of The Dragon on my block.. Mickey Rourke's character played a Polish American Detective & Greenpoint has been known as Little Poland for the last 100 years
I feel really lucky to have seen many of his early performances. "Diner" I think was one of the first. You could tell right away he was a STAND OUT actor. I really thought he was scammed out of an Oscar in "The Wrestler" but it was waaay late and he wasn't 'Mick' anymore..
Anyone out there in You Tube land know what happened to the heartbreakingly beautiful young woman who played Jane Chisholm in Diner. She had an incredible sultry voice like Lizabeth Scott. If she’s still above ground she would be in her late 60 s perhaps 70. ????!
Rourke was simply incredible. In the 80s no one could hold a candle to him. And even today, actors are miles away from his 80s charisma.

Only Alain Delon
Never seen GREATER acting than the Pope of Greenwich Village. His screen chemistry with Eric Roberts was a MASTERCLASS in acting...
Probably never been no one better than Mickey Rourke at his best!

Inside soul wreck.

ROGER on that 'Best of'. That ending really pulled his chops..😈

Makes me feel old though 80's movies.
Mick was a great actor that sat out to destroy his career and did so.
Thank you for the Rourke-selections! I have one request: A scene from "Rumble Fish." This would make your tribute a complete masterpiece.
I assume you’re talking about the “Californias like a wild girl…” speech right? Such an awesome monologue.
"Beautiful wild girl on heroin."
Always acted with the best ⭐️
When he did angel heart him and Deniro really were competing to the point where Mickys voice started to get hoarse
He had one hell of a run in the 80’s.
When there were actual creative movies, and not remakes.

Mickey Rourke's performance in 9½ Weeks is one of the sexiest performances in all of cinema.

Nobody was ever cooler than Mickey Rourke, and then the idiot had to ruin it all.
