I was diagnosed with PCOS in my early 20’s after an unexpected work up. 22 tubes of blood, surgery for diagnostics. Informed I would most likely be infertile. Given name of one of the first fertility specialists in the nation, no other information provided. At the time my GTT was normal. Weight 117 lbs. No weight gain until later. Only symptom was irregular cycles and precocious puberty. Age 10 with secondary characteristics that started earlier.
I conceived both of my children naturally and with the first the same OB/GYN stated, “ Oh. Your one of the rare ones who have this and are extremely fertile.” Education on PCOS was nonexistent. Follow up other than post partum was nonexistent. I am Caucasian and a nurse. The lack of dissemination of information on this goes across all spectrums.
