I have to appreciate the fact that ppl still know good food, and good down-home cooking. This is one of those recipes that I grew up on and still enjoy it to this day. I have always used cube steak in this dish. I've finished it off in the oven, on top of the stove and in a slow-cooker. Thank you Ms.Chris for taking your personal time to do these dishes and reply to the comments. We all have our ways of how we do things, but it's always nice to see other ppl's ways of doing, what we been doing the majority of our lives! Have a great day, God bless you! Keep them recipes, videos coming...and I'll be watching!!
Oh my goodness! My Mama used make Swiss Steak. I've been wanting to make it but didn't know how. Praise God you made this. Mama made this when I was little. Thank you so much! ❤
I just love watching your videos and seeing how delicious it all looks Mrs. Chris. My Mama used to make Swiss Steak when I was a little girl. I will be trying your recipe soon! Thank you and God bless.
I make that same recipe, but I serve mine with mashed potatoes, peas and corn bread.. I can take a piece of corn bread, put it in a bowl and spoon that sauce over it like an Italian stew, and it's SO good!!
Hi Ms. Chris. Old school Swiss Steak. Yes! Please make more old school recipes. Your meal came out fantastic. I bet it was smelling good up in your house! Yummm. Thanks for sharing this classic meal and can't wait for your next video. :)
Looks so yummy! I haven't had Swiss Steak since 1970. My mom used to fix it now and then. I've mastered Salisbury steak, and am ready to move on to something else. Since I don't care for cooked celery, I shall omit that ingredient. I use whole tomatoes, crushing them up. I'm sure my wife will love this! Thanks so much!
I haven't had this since my Mom cooked it back in the early 70's, and it's a dish I will always wish I had found her recipe for. I don't cook a lot, but this is so delicious to me and I miss those meals a lot.
Chris, I am so happy to find this recipe. My 90-year-old mother made so many recipes from memory and then one day she had a stroke and little details to a recipe escape her now. Swiss Steak is one recipe we had not written down, nor can she remember. I think the only difference will be adding mushrooms - I'll try this on my family next week! A good lesson for all of us - write your family's recipes down. (I kept waiting for Lipton's Onion Soup to be added - tee hee hee tee hee hee)
I agree. Write it down. My family history was similar with my aunt. She was a fantastic cook and caterer. She developed Alzheimer's and all of the recipes and skills were gone, quickly. I wrote down nothing. The only recipe I have was her 7 up cake. I still think about what I should have done even now. (Write it down, absolutely). Glad I could help with this recipe. Your comments took me down memory lane. God Bless.
My mom was a round steak fan especially on our budget back in the 70's Plus she used that Schillings Swiss Steak packet mix that you do in an oven bag that was discontinued in 2013😄 I was going to make this & cannot find round steak anywhere! I picked up a different inexpensive cut though. I really enjoyed your video and clear explanations plus you didn't hide how you tweak the recipe or substitute ingredients based on what you have or can buy. Going to give this a try in my Instant Pot☺
Looks like a really good recipe! My boyfriend's mother taught me how she made swiss steak with a cut of London Broil with the juice of one can of peas added along with stewed tomatoes (rather than the regular diced). Also, instead of water, room temp broth works really well to mix with the flour for the gravy thickener.
Mrs. Chris I make cube steak all the time. I just always used gravy. You just give me an different way to make it. I'll give it a try this weekend. Thank you for always sharing your recipes. Wow, I can't believe cube steak could be made like this other than gravy.. Thanks again..
I've been looking for an old school Swiss Steak recipe and thank God you have the perfect one! I have to check out all your recipes. I subscribed as well. God bless!😇🙏
I am going to try your way of making Swiss Steak, when ever I made it my cube steak is always tuff & chewy. Yours looked yummy. Thank you for another great video.
I'm definitely trying your recipe. it's similar to how my mom made it, but that recipes been lost for decades, I've never really cooked it after that, but this is the best recipe close to moms.....
Mrs. Chris you are a great cook, when my dad was alive he loved his steak and gravy and you made me think about him with this meal! What kind of pan you used to fry your steaks?
Now that was good. Thanks for the recipe. I had some gravy left, so tommorrow, so i'm going to get some shrimp and crawford . ANd use the gravy. Thanks and by the way I love your videos, they are so helpful
Chris what a fantastic recipe, brought back so many memories of growing up! Swiss steak was one of my dad's (and mine) favorite meals, and we had it often when I was young. Love that you added mushrooms too, that was always tasty! I do appreciate your great cooking and thanks for this blast from my past!
you got my mouth watering, and I'm definitely going to try this recipe, Mrs C. I just stared watching your channel and I'm sure glad that I have ran into your channel , and I enjoyed every video that you have done. I was wondering in the near future would you please do a video on how to make pig feet please. when I was a little girl my grandmother use to make pig feet and Lima Beans, and it was one of my favorite dish. I have tried it my self but it didn't come out to well. Thank you look forward to seeing more of your videos god bless you.
looks delicious I enjoy your cooking videos so much and they inspire me to be a great cook like you Chris thank you so much we love you at our house tfs
What a terrific presentation. I love your voice, and learned something new ---that you can use roasting pans as fry pans. I'm going right over to your page and subscribe. Nice Job!!
Looks scrumptious I can't wait to get in my kitchen and try this....May GOD continue to keep blessing you !!! Is there any special way that you make chicken salad?
Hey Mrs. Chris have you ever tried Orange Chicken and rice. I would love to see & follow your recipe for that. That's my son favorite, I always wanted to try making it. But I'm nervous about it..
I see so many cooks not let the flour set up on the meat......looks good, and gravy looks good. Im sure id eat it, but seasoning the flour, and letting ANYTHING youbread or lightly bread needs to sit for at least 15 minutes before you fry ..... And dont say its for the gravy, thats just an extra step, and its not like you seasoned flour anyway. Good video tho, im glad you posted it
when you say that you washed your cubed steak. How do you do that. I always though that cubed steak was a form of ground beef, and water would tear it apart. I never knew it could be washed.
Oh, that does look delicious! I've never before seen it made from scratch, so I was a little bit lost when you put in the tomatoes. But you came through as always! Speaking of soup, do you make split pea soup? i'd love to see how you make it.
Your oil didn't look too hot when you put it in, I think it should have been a bit hotter. I know if oil is not hot enough it tends to soak into your food, as opposed to create a crust on your food which seals out the oil, so your food does not end up too greasy. BUT your recipe looks like it would be real tasty, I like your ingredients and how you prepared this dish. You explained everything very well. I haven't had swiss (Cubed) steak in years.
My grandmother passed in 1992. This was her specialty; though, she always used carrots. What would you recommend as far as the addition of carrots to this meal?
I was going to ask you that very same question. We just recently got a Ross, so...You know I gotta have me one of them pans. BTW, your dish looked great! Swiss steak was a favorite in our home, especially on a cold winters day. I hope you and your family enjoyed your meal. P.S, does the pan come with a lid, or can you buy one separately, I really need one with a lid. thanks for posting!! Good day friend!
Your camera person needs to back up so we can see what you’re talking about during cooking. The cameras so close to the meal that I can’t see anything but the meat.

That’s the classic traditional version. Looks great!
Now that was good. Thanks for the recipe. I had some gravy left, so tommorrow, so i'm going to get some shrimp and crawford . ANd use the gravy. Thanks and by the way I love your videos, they are so helpful

Hey Mrs. Chris have you ever tried Orange Chicken and rice. I would love to see & follow your recipe for that. That's my son favorite, I always wanted to try making it. But I'm nervous about it..

when you say that you washed your cubed steak. How do you do that. I always though that cubed steak was a form of ground beef, and water would tear it apart. I never knew it could be washed.
I lightly rinse mine but you are correct it is not easy.
Oh, that does look delicious! I've never before seen it made from scratch, so I was a little bit lost when you put in the tomatoes. But you came through as always! Speaking of soup, do you make split pea soup? i'd love to see how you make it.
You rock it girl!
Your oil didn't look too hot when you put it in, I think it should have been a bit hotter. I know if oil is not hot enough it tends to soak into your food, as opposed to create a crust on your food which seals out the oil, so your food does not end up too greasy. Damn girl. You can cook. 😎
Ok.I'm trying this tonite lol
Chris, do you make Gumbo?
Chris I have a question!
Will the cornstarch act as a tenderizer also?
Actually, the slow simmer will soften the meat.
My grandmother passed in 1992. This was her specialty; though, she always used carrots. What would you recommend as far as the addition of carrots to this meal?
I say go for it. I use carrots sometime as well.
OMG!!! fix me 2 plates please...im starving now after watching your cooking!!!
Ms. Chris, I like your pan. May I ask where did you purchase it.
I purchased it from Ross or TJ Maxx home center store. It's about 6 years old it's by Cuisinart Cookware.
Some of the cookware comes with lids some don't. The one in this video I got two bottoms and made one a top. Just improvised.👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
As a white person that identifies as being black and Swiss, I love this recipe!!
Hi Chris, can you tell me what type bouillon cubes do you buy?
The ones used in the recipe were beef. However I keep beef and chicken into kitchen.
Just curious, why is it that you cook so much food every time.
She cooks for a large family on sundays. Sunday dinners
I made this for Sunday dinner and it was the bomb.com!!!
I am so happy you enjoyed it. Thank you for your feedback.
Yummm!
Don't put so much meat in at a time, that's why it can't cool down the grease is cold.
Do it
Swiss steak ain't Swiss steak without the tomatoes on it. It's just steak and gravy the other way
Me? I dredge twice. Twice is nice.
D it dear.
Your camera person needs to back up so we can see what you’re talking about during cooking. The cameras so close to the meal that I can’t see anything but the meat.
