  • In this video I wanted to share a little from the last weeks of my life while travelling Norway with the paper craft workshop. Hard work, adventure and all those moments in between. A real honest look into my life as a self employed crafts teacher. Enjoy!

Just popping by this comment section to mention that Anna and I have created another podcast episode that is now live on my Patreon page: www.patreon.com/mariaogskogen
In this episode we talk about inspiration and finding your unique style. A topic that we both find a bit tricky for different reasons that we explain in the podcast.
If you want to listen to it and do not want to pay the $2 fee on my Patreon you can also follow us here on TH-cam at @Freelance&Friends and wait until it comes out there later this month ❤❤

Maria, there will always be someone who is suffering way more but that doesn’t make your struggles invalid!! If you’re crying before work and already feeling exhausted in the morning, it’s absolutely a sign that it’s too much! I totally get that!! I’ve been there. Please take care of yourself, so you won’t burn out! 💜

Maria, there are many people in the world feeling like you. The weight of global issues on our hearts and minds, and the overwhelming personal responsibilities that feel exhausting. You are not alone in these feelings. ❤ Maybe consider this month as your own "Maria in residency" and focus on something for yourself that you wouldn't normally have time for.
I love your videos. This one, my favorite part was seeing the raindrops hanging on the bare trees. So artistic and beautiful. I love when you show us different parts of Norway, the beauty of your country and towns. Take care of yourself and use this time to relax and reset. ❤

You don't have a man's voice. Between your softly modulated narration, imagery and music choices I find your videos very calming and beautiful. I will probably never see Norway so I really look forward to your videos. Enjoy your private, quiet time while Bendick is gone. Good wishes for his trip as well. MO, USA

This must be my favourite video of yours so far. I think the videography, the story-telling, the pace, and editing just keep getting better. You are so talented ! It's been a delight also to have a better sneak peak into your beautiful relationship with Bendik. You are 2 beautiful people and I'm so happy that you have found each other. Your comment about someone suggesting you suffer from hormonal imbalance because of your calm deep voice made me laugh out loud, so funny ! I loved the way one of your students told you once you have the voice of a viking queen and I thought it rang so true ! Also, it is pretty normal to feel emotional highs and lows when we are sleep-deprived. The body processes cannot work optimally without a good foundation of sleep so you just need to rest, and perhaps try to plan more days off in between tours next year if and when you can. Sending you restorative and peaceful vibes. Enjoy your "me time" !

Maria, thank you for another lovely video and insight into your life and work.
I do hope the imminent arrival of spring will fill you with joy, and that you will find the time to relax in the warmth of the sun.
A busy work schedule can indeed be overwhelming at times for all of us, especially when combined with travelling for weeks on end.
Discovering such beautiful places along the journey as those featured in your video must make it all worth the effort in the end though, and will linger in your memory far longer than the bleaker moments.
I wish you well over the coming months and look forward to seeing your continuing adventures throughout the spring and summer.

You and Bendik are lucky to have each other. I'm sure you both know that. You will be fine for a month while he's in Japan. Flint will be good company and there's always us, your subscribers 😘. Seriously, you have good friends, I know and sometimes being alone is really nice. I've had a lot of experience with that.
I lived on an island like the one where you taught in this video for 26 years. I know what ferry fever is! Spring in this part of Maine seems much the same as your part of the world. We had a snowstorm last week. Then there's the mud and the rain.
Your green sweater is lovely. I bet you knit it yourself. If you're looking for a book to make you smile: The Bandit Queens by Parini Shroff is very good.
You have a lovely voice. Someone is just feeling badly about themself and they are reflecting it back to you. Teaching is hard, hard work. All the prep. People just don't know...but now you've shown some of them and they know. Thank you for making this great video. When I get creative, things get messy at home. But think how uninteresting our lives would be without it.

So far being alone is going well. I actually cherish the opportunity to be alone a bit, even though I am also looking forward to having Bendik back :-). I can imagine one gets ferry fever! We were artist in residence on an island for 6 weeks once and I already felt it!
I hope the spring will arrive in your parts too soon. Its a sunny day here today so I am hopeful now

Hi Maria, I always look forward to your videos. This one is another very enjoyable one, I appreciate that you give such an honest look into your real life. ❤ being a HSP (high sensitive person) I want to give you something in consideration 😊 maybe the exhaustion comes from the fact that you are sensitive to the energy around you, and you constantly being in different living spaces (hotels have a lot of diverse energy in them, as do the schools), it maybe can be a good thing to see if you need to balance your energy - cleaning your own energy field, getting rid of what you pick up from the outside and replenishing your own. It's a bit short explained, but maybe you understand what I mean. I'd be more than happy to tell you some more, maybe via email, but I dont want to impose that 😊 love, and take care ❤

    • @Mariaandtheforest
      @Mariaandtheforest  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hi Maureen, thank you so much for the tip. I will look into that. I also think the nature of this work requires a lot of energy from us, because we never know what kind of energy the class we are going to teach has. So its always a surprise and we have to be very flexible all the time. This is fun and exciting too for some time, but then after two months of doing it every day it becomes a bit draining. I would love to learn some more, but only if you have the time 🙂. My email is mariatyri94@gmail.com

Hi Maria! I'm so happy that I found you and your channel! I used to work as a craft teacher myself before I decided to go self-employed 2 years ago. I actually visited Norway and Notodden during my studies for 2 weeks to visit schools there and the university. It was beautiful (but I don't miss the big hill that you had to climb when going back to the apartment). Your video really inspired me to start filming studio vlogs again and I can't want to watch through your library of videos while I crochet. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us. I'm am watching this video again. Why? Your voice and the way you share are very peaceful and I find it comforting too! That may sound strange to you, but I live in a much faster paced world and down time is not always easy to get. You do a wonderful job of creating on this platform. You will continue to succeed with this. I watched one person who had a channel and I watched it grown by leaps and bounds. It may take time, but this will do the same. {Encourage viewers to "share"}. It has a lot to do with a persons personality or if the subject matter is presented well. Some, not so good. I think you generate a peace here, not given out by others. It's really wonderful. I really look forward to spending time hanging out with you here. Makes me feel quiet and still. Love it! Blessings, Glenda

Hi Maria, thank you for sharing your life while travelling Norway with the paper craft workshop. Your country is so beautiful! What you both bring to the classes with the children is very important and special. You must both be feeling proud of your achievements. I do think that it is very important for you to start writing. Even if it is just for 5 minutes a day when you are away. You need to write! A young mother with two small children, I think one was a baby would write for fifteen minutes every evening as they slept it was the only time she had to write. Finally after two years I think she got a novel finished and eventually she became an author. Remember how much you love the author Virginia Woolf and her Mrs Dalloway! well writing was what brought Virginia to life, it gave her energy and it was who she was. She was a writer and I really believe from what you have shared on your vlogs that you are a writer too, just like Virginia. Journal, write poems, write words that don't even make sense but write and write everyday even for just 5 minutes. Especially now you have a month home alone, try to write. Wishing you a wonderful week. greetings from Scotland, Caroline.😊

I’m a Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish American woman living in Texas, USA. I’ve been spying on Scandinavian TH-camrs to try and understand some of my heritage. I used to ask questions of my aunts, parents and grandparents, but sadly all of them have passed away now. I live in a place that has very little in the way of severe winter weather, but I hate summer here. It’s miserably hot and it seems to go on forever. I love spring, fall and winter for that reason.
I depend on God for grace and His power to get me through summer misery. I can’t imagine doing it on my own. I have noticed that the long winters really get to others living in your part of the world. My cousin lives in Alaska and has to deal with the long dark winter months. Our ancestors had it so much worse with the limitations of technology and industry. We are from very strong stock, and that is so good.
I noticed you are vegan, you might measure your protein intake? It might need some amping up if you constantly exhausted.
Trust you’ll make it through this month without your partner. You will be in my prayers.

Maria, I'm wondering if you have ever been diagnosed with SAD? Seasonal Affective Disorder. With all the dark days you have there, it isn't out of the ordinary to be affected by that. Here in Wisconsin (USA) this year, we have not had much snow until last month, and even now the ground is bare. BUT there have been a lot of cloudy days this winter, and even my husband is depressed with all the dark days. There are special lights you can use to help you
feel better. I hope you can make a decision as to what to do to help yourself. Good luck!

I have not, but the seasons for sure affect me a lot! I do not think it affects me more than other people around me though so I have never looked into it. The struggles I have been having with our work has also been there since fall, so it has followed me through the seasons.
Thank you, I am getting there I think ❤. I hope some nice weather will arrive in your part of the world soon 🙂

I hope things get less exhausting for you. The mom in me wants to advise you go make sure you don’t have anything going on with your hormones or possibly lack of a specific thing like iron. Getting a blood panel and hormone panel can make sure that you don’t have anything creating the exhaustion beyond just your heavy working and travel load. Someone your age, who is as active and eats such a good diet would usually bounce back more quickly from work and life stress. If it’s been going on longer than 30 days, it’s no longer considered acute. If it’s not easy to get those tests where you live, they have kits available on the internet. I imagine that you probably have better access for something like this than we do in America. I usually end up recommending the online kits to people here because it’s cheaper than the cost of meeting your insurance deductible before they cover the cost of a $150usd test.😬
It’s what I would recommend to my own children who are around your age.
My husband and I love to spend Sunday afternoons watching your videos. They are wonderful. I hope you start feeling better soon.💜

Perhaps your tiredness is due to lack of iron or magnesium. A blood test would show if that were the case. I don't know what it is like to work in the manner you do, but I was thinking that if you are resting and not feeling better it could be something besides lack of rest. I would love to see your creations up close. I'm sure it is beautiful. Love your videos. I'm here in Washington state, U.S.A. Blessings, I pray you feel better. :)

You are just tired. Physically and mentally. It is totally normal and we were all there. It is very healthy to recognize it. It is a beautiful thing you do, but don't forget to take some time for yourself and rest.

One more thing and I’ll stop “mothering you”… if you don’t already have one, a full spectrum light bulb or a gamma clarity lightbulb might help you with some of the winter blues.💜

You may have SADS- seasonal affective disorder… common in northern latitudes, like Alaska, with long winter nights and short days and lack of sunshine maybe if you could get down to a sunny area once or twice in the winter like Portugal or Spain for a few days that would help…or even under a bright sun lamp for a few minutes a day….

You too Maria ☺. Make the next few weeks about you in the company of your fur babies 🐺🐾. And as someone else suggested be your own artist in residence. I also think some of your tiredness is grief from your recent loss 😢. As I've mentioned previously I lost my beloved husband Terry in December and it hurts so much, and I'm exhausted from it.

Hei Maria! I was so happy to hear your distinctive voice again - and that opening overhead view was breathtaking - same at the end. So it was weird to hear some troll commenting about your voice! You have a lovely voice! I love that you shared the reality of life when you spend so much time touring with your work. We all have lives like that, and I have to say that it is nice to hear about somebody else's challenges for a change to take me out of my own! You and Bendik work very hard, and I think those Norwegian kids are lucky to have both of you teaching and sharing really interesting knowledge. I am sure those kids will remember the fun of those days learning how to make paper! I was also thinking early in the video that it is a good thing you are not going out alone to teach! Have you convinced Bendik to take some video footage to share with us while he's in Japan? That would be such fun. How lovely that he went with his mother! After having very mild weather we had a huge 2-day snowstorm this week and the power went out for 3 days here. Yes, I hear you about weather! But today was about 9 or 10 degrees and the snow is melting quickly. Ha en fin maned i hagen! Hilsen fra Canada!

Hi Janina, I am so glad you like the video. Thank you for your kind words about my voice and our teachings ❤❤ . I too like hearing about other peoples challenges, I feel like you say that it takes me out of my own a little. So I try to be transparent about them in my videos when I feel like its not too private. And to your question, yes I have asked him to do that, so I'm excited to see what comes from that!
Wow, 3 days with no power. That must have been an intense storm. I am glad the spring seems to have arrived in your part of the world too. It is the same here, warm and sunny today! Ha en fin mandag du også

@@MariaandtheforestSo glad you asked Bendik! Yes, we had very heavy, wet snow and the trees here were breaking and whole trees down all over! My Norsk mama was horrified when moving to Canada to disciver that electricity was distributed on tall poles with wires throughout the entire country! So trees can fall on the power lines and break the poles (which are made from trees). Where I live it is heavy woods and more trees and large branches came down than I have ever seen before. In 3 years living here we have had power out for 4 and 8 days, and many times for several hours. Even high winds cause power outages. So I am prepared now! The snow is melting and tomorrow will be very warm - 15 or 16! But that means soon we will have lots of biting insects and cannot go out without a bug jacket for a month. 🤦‍♀️ I will enjoy the outdoors until then! Ha de!❤

Dear Maria, I am taking a wild guess that one persons rude comment came from someone who is not familiar with the overall tone of some languages in Europe! Like my native german, some northern languages sound "rougher" compared to other languages, and when one speaks English the rhythm of the native language stays within. Thats why for example germans are often made fun of when they speak english or french, because of the heavy inflection or accent. When I listen to for example arabic, i often think the people are having a fight lol but it is the temperament and the tone of the language that is "normal" to them. That said, your english is perfect. To write something like that comment that person felt the need to express, to a clearly VERY feminine woman, and very BEAUTIFUL if i may say, is a sign to me that someone is unsatisfied with their own life. Shine on and be your wonderful self. To me your videos are a reminder to connect with mother earth more often and realize that we are part of it, not only observers. And i cant wait to visit this summer. Love from Berlin❤

    • @Mariaandtheforest
      @Mariaandtheforest  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

That is so true! Very important observation actually. I think Norwegian can have a bit of that rough tone too. Thank you so much for your compliments though, that's very kind of you ❤️. I was mostly amused by this comment, I find it kind of funny that people will write stuff like that to a complete stranger. I am so glad you feel my videos remind you to connect, making them reminds me too. As I go out to film I am forced to look closer at the small changes in my environment and be present with that ❤️
