I don't really hate him per se, I like the good things that he does like helping other artists, I like his music, I was a fan of 2PM. @@Kathakomben Locs have everything to do with African-American culture, I gotta admit it's quite hard to pinpoint the birth of locs and dreadlocs, since at that time, matted hair was more of a lifestyle not a stylistic choice; ex: vikings would wear their matted hair before going to war because it made things easier for them; or people would wear them for religious reasons. A lot of the choices made around having locs back in the day were for practical reasons not stylistic choices. Whereas in modern times people (white people) tend to wear Boxbraids, Cornrows, and Dreadlocks, as a stylistic choice. In the African-American culture, the styles are very much a lifestyle for us we carry the history of slaves who used this to their advantage to escape plantations or even keep goods into their braids. Not only that we use it to actually protect our hair. So when there are celebrities like jay park who wear dreadlocks for the sake of looking cool it undermines the experiences of black people (even other poc) who wear it for a reason. And dont get me started on the struggles of black people who are told that they look unprofessional and unkept because they have braids or locs.

I personally don’t take the biggest offense if a non black person wears African hairstyles, it depends on the context and intention. For me growing up in Germany, I met a lot of white people with locs and I never second guess it. It was something that those found aesthetically pleasing and what they wore. It was an aesthetic choice, but never to mock black people. They never wore “black attire” or tried to look hard and gangster. Most of them wore them like a normal hairstyle with their normal clothes and that for sometimes the majority of their lives. Up to this day I don’t mind those people, when it comes to dreadlocks. I start taking offensive if you use them as a prop for a hip hop stage and start reinforcing stereotypes like that this hairstyle is ghetto or makes you look more aggressive and evil. If it gets to the point that it’s only a costume for you that’s where I draw a line. That’s why I personally get offended when most of the kpop idols wear their hair in that style, because I never see dreads in a cute or bright concept, it’s always when y’all imitate black people and their way of speaking, dancing, rapping ect. People’s culture ain’t a costume, it’s not okay to dress up as “Hip Hop” and take them out as soon as the promote cycle ends. To me there is not much difference, to wearing a geisha costume or a native headpiece. It’s the same way offensive and I’m tired. With that explanation boxbraids and cornrows are always offensive to me.

I think it also depends on the country and the culture. In the US, CA is a very important topic, due to the history surrounding sl*very, segregation and because it is a very multicultural society. In Latin American countries, CA is reserved to the blatantly disrespect towards a minority, in other cases it is seen as just different cultures sharing between each other. It is pretty crazy how same issues have different impacts depending on what part of the globe you live in

Yeah, sorry but if u look at Korean comments especially, dreadlocks are pretty much “oh I wanna be cool hip pop gangster”. I remember even bts said that their debut image “hip hop” style was chosen in order to be somewhat intimating. Also there’s a couple of videos piling up managers and executives talking about concepts for debuts and comebacks that are interesting to say the least. I just don’t really buy the whole thing about Koreans not knowing what these styles represent, considering they know what stereotypes they imply, they just don’t seem to care. It’s not more than that.

@@mariakiwi1428 I understand what you mean but honestly many do stereotype when there is a pattern of behavior for a particular group of people. It is not just a Korean thing but I must say that many in my family, we don’t have a good impression of Africans Americans in general. We are Asian American and I was born and raised in America and I had a lot of negative experiences with African Americans. Of course not everyone is the same, but I must say a number are very mean, rude, gangster like, etc.. Even throughout this whole Covid thing, I was bullied by a number of them. Throughout school I was bullied by them too. I still remember to this day(this was 30 years ago in 1992) when one of them wrote cuss words to our substitute teacher and framed me for it. I was still a weak person so I cried as I was afraid to get in trouble. But the thing was, I saw with my own eyes that that evil bitch did it, however, she had thick enough skin to frame me. Luckily the teacher believed me so I was ok but my impression of African Americans went down from there and more. Talking about BTS, they even bullied Jin so Suga stood up to them when they worked with them on the American Hustle show back then. We form impressions based on our experiences so at times, you cannot truly blame any group of people for stereotyping a particular group of people, especially when you see the same patterns in behavior from the same groups of people over and over again. Asians were attacked and killed during this whole Covid thing, but why is no one fighting for us? But Africans attack us and they brush it off like it is nothing.

Twist is also braids 😂😂 if it was another artist that wore the same braids ,they will get a lot of hate

2 things i wanna point out
    - 8:25 that "there isn't an artist as versatile..." tweet was never that serious, he was litterally being sassy for jokes as always like that's his humour, it's just some funny self praise
    - 10:29 This is the biggest misconception around DNA, The original song was by YLN Foreign featuring Jay Park and was created during High School Rapper 4. he wanted to express that the core values and themes regarding hip hop and its culture are things he identifies himself with so much that it is basically a part of his DNA at this point. Hip hop to him is self expression. That is the message of the song. It has nothing to do with their actual DNA and heritage at all.

It’s so weird. Jay is literally the only Korean Artist that never fails to mention how he is a guest in this house when it comes to hiphop while there’s idols that will literally just use hiphop elements for “swag” or musical clout because it’s trendy.

One day y’all are gonna realise that everything is culture and it’s all appropriated. And guess what? There is nothing wrong with that. For example: I’m a north-african woman who was born and raised in Europe. For my whole life i’ve struggled to ‘belong’ to a certain culture. But it’s hard because my parents raise me differently than the society i have around me. So i decided to make my own mix of the 2 cultures. And besides that i love and appreciate other cultures by cooking their food, listening to their music, learning about their history and culture, wearing their fashion etc. Why? Because i LOVE diversity and appreciate it without disrespecting it. It breaks my heart to see that people would say what i do is wrong, because i truly love these cultures. Cultural appropriation means that you imitate a culture with the thought of claiming it as your own. What Jay Park is doing here is NOT CULTURAL APPROPRIATION. He is showing love and appreciation to another culture. He is not appropriating the culture. In a 100 years, y’all won’t even see any divided cultures anymore, all cultures will become one big mishmash. Mark my words

There is some misinformation and things left out here.
1.The Mukbbang song was never a Jay Park song, not his song, he was a featuring artist.
He apologized and contacted the original creators of the song and made them delete the lyrics after people educated him about the meaning behind the lyrics and allah.
    2. There's ALOOOOOOT more good stuff that he's done that isn't covered in this video, you only saw like 5% out of 100.
Look I get jay might not be the most perfect artist out there but I feel like kpop fans expect him to behave like an kpop idol and agree with everything the fandom says and they get mad when he has his own opinions. I feel like when jay park makes mistakes he always owns up to them and tries to explain his point of view. he's not forcing anyone to like him. he's always said that if you don't agree it's fine. Most of the things he's done in this video literally 90% of other kpop groups have done too and it's funny kpop fans can unite against him when their faves probably have done the same thing, and it's really hypocritical to me. also saying how their faves did it once and never did it again when there is evidence proving otherwise...like just say you hate the man and want to see him fail. stan twitter used to be so much fun back in the old days, nowadays I feel it's turned into a toxic wasteland of fandoms fighting eachother and I'm glad i'm no longer part of it.

well if you are talking about bts then there are threads and videos with proof. the difference between BTS and their fans and any other kpop group and their fandom is that when bts do smtg wrong their fans ca;l them out, educate them and bts dont do it again. no body is saying they havent done bad things but its after the mistake that matters. and other fandoms just want to protect their idols and never accept that they did smtg wrong without being toxic and leaving the fandom and all. like many times if an idol (which is not bts) does smtg wrong some fans instead of understanding they hate on the idol and leave the fandom and all. and well in fact most of us love jay park. most of us understand what he means to say as well. i get what his arguements are about the dread locks thing but he just doesnt word it well and people think he doesnt want to understand the issue but well if he keeps doing stuff like that some people are bound to hate. well agreed twitter is kinda toxic but if you follow and interact with right people its really fun. its like my second home haha

As a Black person, the cultural appropriation issue is kind of a mixed bag. Like I don't get terribly offended but I understand those who do. It feels like the intricacies of appropriation isn't really something easy to explain on either side. In an academic sense, it's a neutral term. But there are instances when it can do harm. However, the manner of harm largely has to do with how a culture is received on a systemic level. Technically. Jay Park isn't wrong. Saying Korean words in a non Korean context is, in an academic literal sense, appropriation. That doesn't mean that it's bad it just means it has to be seen through a lens of understanding Korean culture and its presence in society.

I may be wrong but I feel like his responses are more of a defense mechanism of someone who don't see what wrong he's caused rather than a reaction of a person that does not give a damn about others beliefs and intentionally shows them disrespect, so racist and problematic? no

He should have known better as a christian but then again tbh It's understandable that he would think "oh no biggie people mention God in their song all the time" unfortunately for Him When it comes to Shirk, for us muslims this is not something we joke about. Locs have everything to do with black culture, I gotta admit it's quite hard to pinpoint the birth of locs and dreadlocs, like who started it or which culture can claim it, since at that time, locs, precisely matted hair was more of a LIFESTYLE not a stylistic choice; ex: vikings would wear their matted hair before going to war because it made things easier for them; or people would wear them for religious reasons. A lot of the choices made around having locs back in the day were for practical reasons NOT stylistic choices. Whereas in modern times people (white people) tend to wear Boxbraids, Cornrows, and Dreadlocks, as a stylistic choice. In the black culture, these styles are very much a lifestyle for us we carry the history of slaves who used this to their advantage to escape plantations or even keep goods into their braids. Not only that we use it to actually protect our hair. Listen if descendants of vikings wanted to wear dreadlocks just because their ancestors did it, i dont give two fucks but what we not gonna do is undermine a whole lifestyle. People wear it just because they wanna look cool not because they are appreciating a culture and that itself is another problem because its easier to wear the hair and not be persecuted against it. Black people wear braids and locs and are called unkept and unprofessional. Ohhh and straight hair is not part of white culture, anyone from any race can have straight hair and even curly hair; so having a weave is not me culturally appropriating people who have straight hair

As someone who only learnt about Jay Park from all his controversies, watching this video really changed my mind about him. I feel what people fail to understand is how unbothered he is and how real he is. I am not saying that everything he said was right, but many people dislike him because he is outspoken and says what's on his mind without holding back which I truly admire about him. With all the things he has done, he has shown to be someone that isn't easily swayed by what people say which is a quality that people tend to hate. As a black person, I love people from other cultures enjoying and appreciating our culture, enjoying our fashion and food. Watching Jay Park I can say that he appreciates black culture and how he always reiterates how HipHop shaped him into who he is today. Someone being so self aware of that, I don't think what he does is mocking our culture at all. If someone wants me to hate him, I just can't. In all honesty, I sort of agree with some of his statements, black/African American culture has been made mainstream, with it comes the clothes, dances and hairstyles. I believe that Kpop has been influenced heavily by Michael Jackson and hiphop, Michael said that he got his inspiration from James brown and black kids dancing on the street.
I think that the admiration and wish to follow something you like comes from a good place. I wouldn't cancel someone if they dressed up in Estonian traditional everyday clothes (we also have a long history of slavery, 700 years), I'd be glad to see that foreigners take interest and like the style.

If he wore the braids on his hair and started imitating a black person, maybe paint his skin and stuff, he would need to apologize. He just wore braids on his hair because he likes it, there's nothing wrong with it.

I really love and respect Jay Park. i do not care what these random internet haters say. He's a great guy with a good heart. He looks out for his people and then some. I have watched as social media has tried to bring him down over one thing after another since 09. He's not perfect and never claimed to be. He's human. He does not have to walk on eggshells and apologized for existing. He can also wear his hair ANY WAY HE WANTS TOO! people really be feeling themselves on social media. pfft!

Thank you !! I'm getting tired of these people who are obsessed with hating him , because people make mistakes , people make wrong choices , it's normal we are humans , that's why a lot of idols keep their thoughts to themselves because of people who like to judge and start hate for the smallest reasons. PEOPLE ARE CALLING HIM OUT TRYING TO BRING HIM DOWN ,while not realizing that they actually don't know all the things he has been through these people are just pure followers that love drama and hate and he is a strong man because all the hate he is getting right now probably is causing him mental issues and god forgive any bad thoughts. I'm just sad to see people who probably stan a lot of groups i do be so ridiculous and unforgivable acting like 7 year olds on the internet 😭 Us humans have challenges we might say bad things that we might regret after but that's how we learn and it's something that we try to overcome but if people bring us down it will make it harder for us to know what's right ,i know he's a 30 year old man but he is being himself and i respect that♥ plus listen to him on spotify 😫🤌

I hate how people always call cultural appropriation on people. Ok so we like the style and the vibe from hip hop but because it comes from a black culture black people will bully someone for that. It’s called showing love to one’s culture. The same when someone copies Mexican culture like in Japan it’s a whole Chicano culture there and the Mexicans weren’t even man what they did was go to japan to party with them. This culture appropriation shit is dumb.
