  • Oil Change for the Honda CTX 700. Oil filter used K&N KN-204 or you can use Fram PH6017A. Note: When draining the oil, lean the bike from side to side, a ton more oil will drain out. Sign up at the CTX forum at www.ctx700forum...

    The technology on this bike is incredible. I bought this bike to explore back roads in our area. I ride a 2014 Indian Chieftain and a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500, I thought the CTX would be perfect to just putt around back roads on. Well my plan was working and I was having a blast until my wife decided to try it out and ride it. Well, the bike isn't mine anymore, she loves the bike and I can't get her off the CTX, it's now her bike. For anyone who feels this bike is just for beginners or females, WRONG!! I've been riding motorcycles for over fifty years and this bike in my opinion is suited for anyone.

    I would add, make sure the old gasket is not stuck to the mounting before you screw the new filter on.

    You don't change the clutch/transmission oil/filter the same time for this bike?

    • @envivo78
      @envivo78  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can change the air filter, but there is no transmission fluid to change on this bike.

      En Vivo Theres a second oil filter on the DCT. You change it every other oil change if i remember right from the service manual, fairly important.

    Thanks for the video, how do you like your CTX?

      +JD Acosta It's a nice ride, plenty of power and great on gas, easy to get around town on. Particularly love the mobility and ability to lean into sharp turns. Don't particularly like the stability when wind is over 15mph. I'll probably move on to a larger size mc next year. You enjoying your ride?

    Any video on changing air filter?

    • @envivo78
      @envivo78  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Mykhael Hayes - It is a ton of work, lots of items have to be removed to access it. The filter is about $60 on amazon, part number HA-7012. Not sure if it's worth paying the dealer $200 for labor to get to it but will see what the effort is based on all the parts that have to be removed.

      you don't need to change the air filter until 24K miles.

    At what miles did you log before this oil change?

    • @envivo78
      @envivo78  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Fernando Ryder The first oil change is due at 500 miles. After that I would change it every year no matter how many miles your putting on it. Oil eventually breaks down with or without use. If your putting high miles then change it more frequently.

    My 2014 CTX700N is getting gas in the oil. After two weeks my dealer and Honda have no answers as to what is happening.

    • @envivo78
      @envivo78  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Larry Sizemore Did you do any modifications to the bike or this just stared happening? The warranty should cover the fix or replacement costs to correct whatever the issue is. Good luck!

      En Vivo I have done nothing to the bike but put 87 octane BP gas in it and ride it. I changed the oil at 1000 miles, Honda 10w30 and the Honda filter just as recommended. Bike rides and handles great, I got 68 MPG on a couple of tanks so far but this gas in oil isn't good. After almost three weeks the dealer is finally getting it in tomorrow, this after like 6-10 calls and two walk in trips down there. I will post the results. Thanks.

      Larry Sizemore So, whats the verdict??

    • @gatorunleashed275
      @gatorunleashed275 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honda could find no answer as to why the bike was dumping so much fuel into the engine oil other then the tubes that run to the airbox(crankcase ventilation tube then another recirculation tube). They basically told me to come get the bike that they can't find anything to fix. My dealer has been fantastic through the entire process. Rather then bring a basically new motorcycle home that has some type of problem I decided to trade it in, so I got a new Fury. The CTX700N was a perfect bike for me though, shame it wouldn't work.

    How do you tighten the chains on this bike specifically?

    • @envivo78
      @envivo78  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Lovetodance246 This guy has a great video on tightening the chain on a bike. Its the same concept on any bike. Specifically for the CTX, at about 215 he shows if you have an aluminum block. Be careful not to over tighten it. - th-cam.com/video/zB4DsHV8SAQ/w-d-xo.html

    What weight oil did you use and what brand?

    • @envivo78
      @envivo78  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Make sure the oil is Jaso MA, otherwise the clutch may get ruined or start to slip. I use Valvoline and 10-40w since I'm in Austin, Texas. Use 5-40w if you're in cold weather. I buy my oil filters on Amazon and change the oil filter every time I change the oil.

      Use what the manufacturer of that bike ( the ctx 700 that you ask about 2 years ago)......instructs...not Mr En Vivo. He didn't build nor design the bike....Honda did.

    5:00 to 5:07. So...are you going to tell people with their cars and pickups NOT to fully insert their engine oil dipsticks too? GEt a clue man. ALWAYS insert that sucker 100% of the way.
    Otherwise, you risk getting an inaccurate reading and can end up OVERfilling by a small amount, and YES that is more risky than being low by half an onuce to 2 or 3 ounces...
    I'ts common sense that TOO MUCH engine oil CAN most often blow some seals somewhere in ANY I.C.E. vehicle..period. ANY experience engine mechanic will tell you this. I don't care what that manual says..... IF that is what it says.
    It's better to put that kickstand on a block of wood tall enough to literally put the bike as close to perfectly upright/level as possible, check the engine oil when it's cold/cooled down and insert that dipstick 100%..including screwing and unscrewing it to get the most accurate reading possible.
    It urks me to no end why morons keep giving such stupid advice about how to check engine oil in gasoline engines. Are you dumb enough to do the same thing in your gasoline push lawn mower too? (facepalm)

    • @elninostorm
      @elninostorm 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You understand that the service manual itself says to NOT screw it in all the way, right?

      The service manual also says to check the engine oil with the engine warmed up.
