  • This week Birmingham's artistic institutions warned the city faces 'cultural deprivation', after the council announced massive funding cuts to the arts.

It’s a similar picture in Nottingham and in Suffolk.
Some have called it “cultural vandalism” after years of funding cuts from central government, leaving debt ridden councils with an impossible dilemma over funding decisions.
In the latest of our reports on defunding of the arts our Culture Correspondent Minnie Stephenson has been to Bristol, to see how the cuts are hitting the community.

I used to work with charities, and in the last ten years of austerity, recession, and global pandemic, councils have cut youth projects, disability services, and many others. I didn't think they had anything left to cut?!?! They have sent billions to Ukraine and wasted and pocketed lots more with the PPE scandal?!?! The arts had already been slashed years ago during the global banking crisis, and it only just started to show signs of growth again.

"This is the next step"? Are you saying topling statues is about cuts to services? Probably, nowadays its any excuse for know nothings to find a "cause". I wonder when theyre going to burn down penryhn castle because lord penryhn had 10000 slaves? Theyre not, their education doesnt allow them to know that one 😂😂. They choose anything local that brings attention. Pain in the butt everyone of them!

Don’t worry, the way Bristol is going, most of the arts will be banned as blasphemy soon enough.
