    I'm an absolute Beginner. And my first problem was, that there is no Z3A+2 to get. So I started to find a synthesizer with which I can develop a sound like this. My first finding was FRMS for IOS, but it*s difficult to get this slow rising of pitch.
    Any better suggestions?
    Any synth with similiar possibilities as Z3A+2?
    And by the way. I would like to do your tutorial.
    But it*s a lot to expensive for an absolute Beginner like me.

    Syntorial I've recently bought syntorial and think its great!!! I was wondering what program are you using to record your tracks into? cakewalk is what you use to create the sound but what's the other program your using?

    • @AudibleGenius
      @AudibleGenius  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Daniel. The host software is Logic 9.

  • @GetInThaKitchen
    @GetInThaKitchen 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Excellent tutorial. I'm downloading the demo version as we speak!
    Syntorial (or anyone else), I'm wondering if you can help me. In Cubase, when using the Spector synth, I've noticed a problem. There are certain preset sounds that I really like, and that I've tried to recreate by opening a new Spector track, re-setting everything so that I'm starting with a blank slate, and then copying all the settings that are present in the preset sound that I like. What I often find is that even when I seem to have put every possible setting exactly the same as in the preset, including the envelopes and all that stuff, something will sound very different.
    For example there's a preset called 'Antichill' that has a nice tone, but for some reason it appears to be completely irreplicable when starting from a new slate. Do you know why I might be experiencing this, and how to get around it? I'd like to be able to create those sounds from scratch.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • @AudibleGenius
      @AudibleGenius  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not familiar with Spector, but some synths "hide" some of their parameters. So my only suggestions would be to look for those.

  • @KyuminShimMusic
    @KyuminShimMusic 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought the syntorial as well, really appreciate for your hard work! I have a question, so my synth has only 2 Envelope to control 2 OSC. in this case how can I make that sound? Should I use glide? have no clue how glide works though..

    • @AudibleGenius
      @AudibleGenius  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're very welcome! The sound uses 3 osc, so I think you're best bet would be to leave out the middle voice, and use your two envelopes to raise osc 1 pitch, and lower osc 2 pitch until they come together, slightly detuned.

  • @wesleyjones6535
    @wesleyjones6535 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice!!!!! Thank you for this. I'm going to get Syntorial and try this. I'm still very new to production. Trying to figure out Logic Pro. Quick question, do you think it's possible to use Syntorial and the techniques you've used in the video to make tracks that song similar to SOHN, FKA Twigs...? I want to really make music with that dark ethereal sound.

    • @AudibleGenius
      @AudibleGenius  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great! Yes, the actual tone may differ, depending on what synths they use, but you should be able to re-create something close to many of those sounds.

    Great tutorial! Can you tell me how to assign the after touch part to another trigger? Don't have aftertouch on my keyboard. Trying to trigger it by my pitch bend wheel but can not figure out how to assign it!

    • @AudibleGenius
      @AudibleGenius  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's trickier than you'd think. Here's how:
      1. click the "Perform" tab at the top left, and disable pitch bend by setting Bend Up and Bend Down to 0.
      2. Then in the mod matrix set
      Source: On
      Range: about 10%
      Curve: Linear -> Unipolar-Linear -
      Control: U-Bend
      Destination: Oscillator 2 Pitch
      Now your pitch wheel will just bend Osc 2 down. You may have to tweak the Range to get the bend amount right.

    Is there a way to enable the afttouch mod/mod wheel by hand? As in I don't always have my MIDI with me. When I have it I'd use the wheel since I don't have aftertouch but when I don't I'd like to draw in that automation by hand.

    • @AudibleGenius
      @AudibleGenius  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the mod wheel and AT information is recorded into the MIDI file. Z3TA is just responding to whatever info comes in. So if you're playing it live via a MIDI controller you'd have to use the mod wheel and aftertouch. If you're playing it via a midi track in your DAW, it would have to be embedded in the midi clip, which can be done by either drawing it in, or recording it with your MIDI controller.

    How many voices can you give one osc on that zeta synth it's very nice btw also when I use syntorial for the filter env section I was confused at first because it taught in a way that made me think if I wanted to do filter cutoff and envelope amount It would already be like that for other synths but it's really modulating the filter right ?

    • @AudibleGenius
      @AudibleGenius  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Z3TA goes up to 64 voices. And yes, it's modulating the filter's cutoff.

    Hi! great tutorial! Im trying to make it so i dont have to hold the lead note for the entire length of it. I would like to trigger the sound (with all the EG pitch shifts) by hitting the note shortly, so my hand can be free to play other parts. Is there a way to do that? Thanks.

    • @AudibleGenius
      @AudibleGenius  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +yuval semo Have you tried a sustain pedal?

    • @silenceinmyhead
      @silenceinmyhead 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Syntorial A sustain pedal is not gonna work cause as i mentioned, i want to hit a note and move to play a different part (that requires the pedal). I think the best solution is to sample that note from beginning to end and set it as one shot sample.
      I was curious to know if there is a way to do it with the Z3eta...

  • @thedelve_
    @thedelve_ 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A little confused when you are referring to Env 5 (aftertouch) What do you mean when you press "further in" I'm missing that whole part.
    I'm not hearing anything once I activate all these parameters.
    Please help (newbie) :)

    • @AudibleGenius
      @AudibleGenius  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      TheDelve If your keyboard has aftertouch: press the key down like you normally would, then press harder and the key should sink a little deeper with resistance. This is aftertouch.

    Would it be possible to recreate this patch on a Prophet 10?

    • @AudibleGenius
      @AudibleGenius  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think so. The sound uses 3 oscillators, Prophet has 2. And you need to be able to separately modulate each of those oscillators' pitches with different amounts and from different directions, which requires more sophisticated modulation options.

  • @traxxx8720
    @traxxx8720 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm just learning how synthesizers work and I have a question. how can James Blake have this sound playing Retrograde live ? In your video, you're using several detunes and oscillators and it seems to me that he can play this entire sound in one take. Am I wrong ?

    • @AudibleGenius
      @AudibleGenius  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Look at live performances, someone else plays the synth bass. James plays the organ-style patch on one synth using two hands. That leaves the bendy lead, which could be played by either 1) triggering it with his foot, or 2) He could have converted it to a sample and the drummer, who's using pads, could be triggering it

  • @stevejhkhfda
    @stevejhkhfda 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I suspect he used the classic analogue unison portamento trick to make this effect - with his Prophet 08 - as opposed to programming it in at this level. Nice to be able to program it into a soft synth tho.

    • @AudibleGenius
      @AudibleGenius  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure I know that trick. How does it work?

    • @stevejhkhfda
      @stevejhkhfda 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Syntorial
      its a sawtooth unison lead sound, with high portomento. Because its analogue - when you have a long glide up to a high/lower note - all the Osc glide up at different rates - getting back in tune at the end. Another simple and fun attribute of analogue synths...Oberheims are particularly famous for this effect.

    • @AudibleGenius
      @AudibleGenius  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stephen Wright Ah, that's cool. I wonder though, would you be able to make notes glide from different directions at the same time? Some from above, some from below?

    • @stevejhkhfda
      @stevejhkhfda 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Syntorial
      yes I would guess he multi tracked it and used a down glide on the same patch...
      You can hear a could of examples of this effect here (unison portomento): www.synthmania.com/ob-8.htm
