Hi everyone, welcome if you're new here, and welcome back if you're a regular viewer.
The story behind this job is another shocking example of rogue traders trying to take advantage of the elderly and vulnerable. This elderly gent contacted me after nearly being talked into having the area i've cleaned in this video for a ridiculously high price, way more than the going rate for a job like this.
Now the way I see it, each business is entitled to quote and charge what ever they feel is appropriate, as each business has there own costs, for example, bigger firms will be VAT registered, have business premises and staff to pay, as opposed to a sole trader, working on their own, with low outgoings. So obviously prices can vary, sometimes significantly.
I will readily admit, that if someone phoned me, along with 2-3 other similar businesses in my area, I very much doubt i'd be one of the cheapest. But, most of us are within a ball park figure of a few hundred pounds. This chancer was trying to push the customer into paying many, many thousands more than a job like this is worth. As the title says - Shocking
My customer said he was being told he needed things that he didn't ask for, or want, and that they were the cheapest he would find, and was making all sorts of empty promises for the job to be accepted. Luckily my customer picked up in this, said no, and asked him to leave, to which the guy reluctantly did.
Having found me online, and after watching some of my videos on TH-cam, that showed me, and explained in the description that I had helped others save money, or restore their faith in tradesmen, my customer got in touch, and accepted my quote almost instantly.
Really glad to have helped this lovely guy and his wife out. He asked to stay anonymous, which is why I haven't shown his face in the video, or mentioned his name.

I did a driveway and back garden for an old lady that was probably a bit bigger than that, I spent hours doing it and all i have is a Kranzle 1050 TST,a dirtkiller lance and a flat lance. I got soaking wet, i was miserable at the end, she didn't offer me tea or anything at all. Once i'd finished and even done other bits she kept asking me to do she refused to pay me. Word of warning, do not do jobs for my mum.

I have not watched multi hundreds of these power washings, but this is the first time I be watched cleaning of the drains, I’am sure they all didnt have them? Always interesting and something new in the world to learn

Fantastic work Nick. Its terrible to hear these cowboys going around intimidating elderly people and ripping them off. We have it here too all the time. Gives the genuine guys and the industry a bad name. Anyway good work and honesty always wins out eventually. I'm not sure what kind of flower was growing in the bricks, but it was sweet ❤️ as I like to say, all weeds are - are misplaced flowers. I don't think all "weeds" are ugly. Most people don't look out into a field of wild flowers and think they're ugly, but many times, and more often than not, they're the same thing growing in your own back yard. Just not everyone gives them their time to shine ❤

Absolutely sick of the travellers, they're at my estate the whole time, notice up no junk mail, they use it as an excuse to get a good look into the house to see what you have.....
Anyone with elderly relatives need to sort out a cam doorbell and tell them no way to answer the door, too many of these scum bags trying it on.

It's difficult to watch you! You should go check out Partridge Exterior Cleaning. You could really learn a lot. You need to pick up mud once in awhile and spray in a much more organized manner!
Hahahaha, I’m friends with Sid, he’s a nice bloke, and he's getting good at this job, but he’s been in the game 5 minutes and still has a lot to learn. I’ve been doing this for nearly 12 years, so Sid will sometimes come to me for advice, not the other way around 😂
This job was cleaned in the most efficient way possible, and all “mud” was collected and taken away, it just wasn’t filmed, as sometimes I record myself doing that, and sometimes i don’t.
I’m confused as to why you felt the need to try and patronise me and tell me how to do my job? Especially as you clearly have no knowledge about mine and Sid’s industry apart from what you’ve seen on TH-cam, which I can assure you doesn’t make you an expert!

Nick and Sid do a great job. Sid is younger and grew up in the digital area so he is more comfortable in front of the camera than Nick. Sid often mentions Nick and a few others in his videos who have done this longer than him. Sid goes to them for help and guidance. Nick does a solid job. No bashing on each other.

Being honest there is not a "going rate"....Your not in business to be a charity, You try to upsell a job as much a possible, this is called business.
If the customer is happy that's all that matters.
I don't know what you charged, But looking at the job i know exactly what i would have wanted for the job, and im sure you would have said i would have been over charging.

I completely get what you're saying, and I agree with most of it, we're all in business to make as much money as possible, and charge as much as we can, and i did address this in my description. But most of us that have any morals don't try and manipulate, mislead, and strong arm the elderly and vulnerable into accepting jobs at massively over inflated prices like this guy did, according to my customer.
I don't normally discuss prices on Social media, but this guy wanted £8000, yes you read right, 8K, and was trying to bully the old gent into it. Luckily this old guy still had his wits about him, and told the guy to leave. From that figure, you can probably figure out roughly what I got paid for it, very good money for 11-12 hours work split over a day and a morning.
If you're charging anywhere near what that guy quotes for domestic jobs like this, and aren't using bullyboy tactics to get the work, then respect where respect is due, and awesome for you, but I very much doubt you are, because i've been in this game long enough to know that there is a ceiling price for cleaning driveways, patios and roofs etc, and once you go over that ceiling, 99.9% of jobs will be turned down, especially when you're competing with the one season warriors, that will disappear as soon as winter comes along, that would quote ridiculously low prices, like £200 - £300 for a job like this.
So no I don't agree that there's not a going rate, that rate might vary considerably from one business to the other, but i'm sure anyone would agree, hopefully even you, that 8K for this job is completely taking the p*ss, and is definitely not within the "going rate"

And no I would never try to upsell to that extent...
I would have charged somewhere in the 5-600 range for this job and would agree that probably around 10-11 hours worth of work with treatment and re sanding..
Anyhow you do us proud as the standard of work it top..
