I just bought a used Hero 7 Black about a month ago. There are quite a few differences between Silver and Black. The main difference is the Black has a front LCD screen and removable battery that can be swapped out. The Black also records in 720p up to 4k 60. (The Silver only goes to 4k 30)
The Black will also record 240fps in 720 or 1080p to the Silvers max of 60fps at 1080p. Image stabilization is reduced or turned off at some of the higher settings.
(You may want to check this since you mentioned it wasn't working very well.)
The main reason I bought the Black is that it allows an external mic with an adapter. I'm using mine for the same type of video you are, and I mount a shotgun-style mic facing backward to talk behind the camera. There are a few other features the Bkack has that the Silver does not, but I haven't tried most of them out yet. Before this, I used my iPhone, and it can be a pain to get enlarge video files to transfer from the phone to a PC. With the Hero 7, I plug it in, and it comes right up on the PC.
So far, this is working very well!
I've heard from others that both cameras are prone to locking or freezing, but so far, I've not had this issue with mine.
Thanks for the review. I may do a review on mine after I've spent a little more time with it.

That's terrific feedback, thank you so much! Now I won't be afraid to check out a higher-end version of the GoPro.

@@FoggyTinkering You're welcome. I hate to spend the extra money but in this case the Black is the way to go for more control and options.

GoPro has no cooling on their video processors so they overheat easily it's 95% of the problem with every single GoPro ever made and will continue to be so until GoPro fixes this known problem.
