    Thank you so much for this video!! After 100h watching tutorials to get a good understanding of sculpting, this one finally made me understand how the workflow that makes you think as a digital sculpt should be, because the way to get to the shapes is too different. Well, at least for me, my main works go more into hardsruface, and sculpting hardsurface is different than modeling or sculpting, it's a different world. Great video ❤❤❤

    Your videos are a great resource! I took your nomad course and I also use GravitySketch VR. I tried a GravitySketch to Nomad workflow to sculpt more detail but the Obj I imported into nomad looked horrible and I was hoping you could tell me why and if there’s a way to make it work. Thank you

    • @SouthernGFX
      @SouthernGFX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      In gravity sketch there are two underlying modeling technologies. NURBS and Subdivision modeling. If you export something from the stroke, ink, volume, revolve tools you will get unpredictable geometry as the export algorithm has to convert the NURBS tom polygons and almost always just triangulates and doesn’t seal edges or make watertight models. If you make things inside GS using Sub D modeling it will come out as you would want and be good geometry. I’ll do a video if you need some clarity.

    • @Twilcox785
      @Twilcox785 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SouthernGFX ohhhhh! Ok. Yes, a video would be great. My knowledge on the difference between Nurbs and subd is a bit foggy, but I gather from your answer that if I wanted to I could fix my NURB in blender, then export to Nomad. Is that right?

    Brilliant work, Glen! I'm new to Nomad (just sub'd here), though not your work. Aside from price (!), what's the advantage here over ZBrush, or even 3D Coat? Does Nomad export in a format that can be opened readily? If so, could ZBrush decimate Nomad models? Thanks! Great ships, btw! :)

    • @SouthernGFX
      @SouthernGFX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Kev. I’m just writing an article on this topic actually. In summary there two main types of people that I see using mobile sculpting and they are diametrically opposed. There the utter beginner they sees it as a cheap way to experience 3D. Then there’s the established artist that is already proficient with ZBrush, Blender etc that uses it as a way to continue working away from the desk. There are problems for both camps of course as it’s relatively new as a format (Forger is actually 11 years of development which people forget). What’s really holding it back is a lack of the more technical features like uv mapping, projection of high to low workflow, retopklogy tools and a few other key things

  • @drewmanzara5731
    @drewmanzara5731 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your voxel count seems to scale differently than mine does for a similar slider position when merging and remeshing. Is that something you can change or does it automatically scale with your hardware or something?

    • @JustinRoss
      @JustinRoss 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is that the voxel count is based on the size of the mesh you have selected. That is, the slider/number is the number of voxels on a side, so if your mesh is, say, 10 units tall, 100 voxels per side is going to be a lower resolution than 100 voxels per side on a mesh that's 1 unit tall, if that makes sense.
      I'm just basing this on my experiences in the app, though. Try making a new object and moving the voxel slider all the way down to 5. You can see that the preview grid has 5 squares per edge, regardless of how big you make the object.

    • @SouthernGFX
      @SouthernGFX  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go to display settings and look at the bottom to where it says Voxeldynamic remesh. Crank that as high as your machine can handle. I just picked up the new 2020 ipad so I go bat-shit crazy in mine ;)

  • @DisgruntledPigumon
    @DisgruntledPigumon ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice tutorial. I can’t get behind this though. It basically destroys all the benefits of traditional hard surface modeling. You have to have an insanely high poly object in order to get sharp edges, and they’ll still never be as sharp as poly modeling. And then editing in any way, shape, or form is impossible without basically destroying the clean, sharp lines of the model.
    It’s fine for a couple small items though as long as you keep in mind these are sculpts and not hard surface models.
    I’d never do a space ship or something in a sculpting app. What a terrible waste of time. I’d be so sad at the end having a nice ship that I couldn’t edit or copy parts from.
