80sCommercialVault, while of your volumes are amazing and make my day exponentially better, this compilation is one of my absolute favorites. My boyfriend was about 2 weeks old when these aired.
That Peter Pan Peanut Butter dancing around has haunted me for almost 30 years now...and looking back on the whole "Beatrice" thing, I have a feeling it was something to do with Wall Street. "Look at all the great stuff we sell, buy our stock while you can!"
Gosh, I remember those old Circus of the Stars and Battle of the Network Stars! It was a different time to be sure, and I don't believe we would ever see these types of shows again on TV.
This set of ads reminds me how many business Beatrice owned back in the day. Elsewhere on TH-cam I see they also owned Rusty Jones Car Service and Samsonite luggage for a while! "We're your local friendly corporate behemoths!"
Beatrice was the company(AKA Beatrice Hunt Wesson in the fee plug credits on game shows around this time) who were the conglomerate who owned Hunt's, Peter Pan, Rusty Jones car care, Fisher Mixed Nuts, Swift meats, Manwich, Snack Pack pudding, and others, at the time.
Odd thing is, I remember most of these commercials, but I don't remember anything being labeled with "Beatrice". Plus, the Beatrice jingle sounds a lot like G.E.'s "We bring good things to life" jingle.
8:01 "Oops! Clumsy Me! Don't give me a knife or some other sharp object, or I might stab myself and spill blood all over this fabulous kitchen counter."
It's a convection microwave, both a convection oven and a microwave. You can use metal trays when it's set to convection which heats food over a longer period of time, like a regular oven versus microwaving for a few seconds or minutes. We had pizza trays with ours. We had one in the '80s and another a few years ago.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who was creeped out by that. I finally had to look them up. "Beatrice Foods Company was a major American food processing company.[1] In 1987, its smaller international food operations were sold to Reginald Lewis, a corporate attorney creating TLC Beatrice International, after which the majority of its domestic (U.S.) brands and assets were acquired by Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts (KKR), with the bulk of its holdings sold off. By the early 1990s, the remaining operations were ultimately acquired by ConAgra Foods." Nothing like a massive conglomerate popping up in every ad to remind you that EVERYTHING YOU BUY IS MADE BY US AND WE CONTROL EVERYTHING YOU DO.
They were the primary sponsor of the special. There's nothing unusual about sponsors carpeting their ads in specials they sponsor...because that's what they paid to do. If you're creeped out by consumerism, why are you watching these?
80sCommercialVault I'm not creeped out by commercialism. I've watched every single 80's commercial video you've posted. It was the sudden "We're Beatrice" that was creepy. A total shift in the commercial. In fact, I'm not the only one who didn't care for it. From the wikipedia on Beatrice: _ it was soon determined that the campaign alienated consumers, _*_calling attention to the fact that many of their favorite brands were in fact part of a far-reaching multinational corporation_*_, and the campaign was pulled off the air by autumn._ BTW thanks for posting all these. I love them.
I still don't really find anything wrong or "creepy" about the Beatrice tag at the end. A lot of brands are owned by large corporations like Pepsi, Kellogg's, General Mills and Procter & Gamble (just to name a few) and it's been this way for some time. If people feel "alienated" by the way businesses are run in America that's a larger problem than one company proudly mentioning it in their advertising.
The funny thing (or at least one of the _odder_ things) about the Peter Pan Peanut Butter commercial is that the jingle is based off a song called 'Peanut Butter'. I don't know, it just strikes me as a bit redundant. The Marathons - Peanut Butter
I assumed the folks at Peter Pan had rewritten "Hully Gully" The Olympics - Hully Gully which came out two years before "Peanut Butter". I guess "Peanut Butter" was a rewrite by the same group.
80sCommercialVault Although, in some ways that just makes it odder. They rewrote a song to make it about peanut butter when said song had _already_ been rewritten about peanut butter...
Yes, it was. Beatrice was sold to ConAgra. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatrice_Foods ConAgra eventually sold the Wesson brand to Richardson International in 2018 www.foodbusinessnews.net/articles/13053-conagra-finds-another-buyer-for-its-wesson-oil-brand
Processed cheese was huge back then, but I believe the cheese/milk campaign was an effort from the dairy industry to curb the effect of the low fat diet craze and the overall increase in margarine usage that occurred during the 70's and 80's.
I had to look them up. Apparently it's only appropriate that they should have been pushing water filters, since according to Wikipedia they were involved in a scandal in which they were accused of having "dumped toxic waste which contaminated an underground aquifer that supplied drinking water." There was even a book and movie based on the scandal. Yeah, I bet people were saying, "give me some of that Culligan!"
These old Christmas commercials put me more in the mood for the holidays than the current Christmas commercials on TV now.
You're not the only one. The ones now just don't deliver.
because now there trying to drill it into your head rather then sell you on watching it lol ^__^
That's when I miss the holidays in the past.
God dammit, the 80s were so much better than today! It's not even close.
Actors are 80% more hopeful/cheerful in 80s commercials than today. Scientific fact.
Okay, I get it. You're Beatrice.
80sCommercialVault, while of your volumes are amazing and make my day exponentially better, this compilation is one of my absolute favorites. My boyfriend was about 2 weeks old when these aired.
Nice with the Lance LeGault voiceover at the beginning. That dude did everything in the 80s.
That Peter Pan Peanut Butter dancing around has haunted me for almost 30 years now...and looking back on the whole "Beatrice" thing, I have a feeling it was something to do with Wall Street. "Look at all the great stuff we sell, buy our stock while you can!"
Beatrice: Take it from me...I love you!
It's nice to see commercials that have no facebook or twitter link at the bottom of the screen...
Gosh, I remember those old Circus of the Stars and Battle of the Network Stars! It was a different time to be sure, and I don't believe we would ever see these types of shows again on TV.
WE are Beatrice. ALL of us are Beatrice.
Beatrice: you can run but you can't hide.
2:08 I just love the HTGSC TV Special, I'd loved ever since I first saw
it 15 years ago. Heck, I even have Blu-Ray copy in my collection.
What kind of freak puts cheese on an apple pie?
LOL, that Beatrice chick was seemingly everywhere back in the day. I actually vaguely remember that from the late 80's/early 90's.
Those Sharp TV's and VCR's are awesome. They should do that for flat screen TV's and DVD's
I'm talking about the different colors for those wondering.
1984 was the year I saw Bugs Bunny's Looney Christmas Tales, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and How The Grinch Stole Christmas.
6:27 who puts cheese on APPLE PIE?!?!?!
It's surprisingly good.
***** Sounds disgusting. You enjoy that :)
***** yuck
@@jason3fc I wouldn't eat it either, but it actually is pretty common and popular.
This set of ads reminds me how many business Beatrice owned back in the day. Elsewhere on TH-cam I see they also owned Rusty Jones Car Service and Samsonite luggage for a while! "We're your local friendly corporate behemoths!"
We're Beatrice scared the crap out of me as a kid.
Ahhh, yes! Us 80s kids were scared by everything!
MsFarzee lol you're so right
Sorry Culligan, we still call it water...
Lol yup we sure do
GOOD LORD!!! Jane Seymour! Always had a crush on that Bond Girl...
Jane Seymour is so unbelievably gorgeous in that commercial that I had trouble paying attention to the commercials following her.
wildsmiley Trust me. She’s a gem.

Beatrice = OmniCorp?
It's the Dust Buster from Back to the Future Part II! 7:40!
Did you notice that the sharp microwave had a metal tray in it?
It's a convection microwave, both a convection oven and a microwave. You can use metal trays when it's set to convection which heats food over a longer period of time, like a regular oven versus microwaving for a few seconds or minutes. We had pizza trays with ours.

ah cool did not see that part. thanks for the info.
Fun fact: Max Factor and Wesson were the Beatrice brands that wasn't include 'We're Beatrice' tag in this commercials.
That "BEATRICE" thing that keeps popping up is creeping me out!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who was creeped out by that. I finally had to look them up.

***** We are Beatrice. Resistance is futile.
Jane Seymour is ageless, insanely hot, and batshit crazy. Good lord.
kurtispopp Yeah. I’ll admit. That’s why I clicked on the thumbnail.
Wait . . . what's your name again?
It might be a regional thing, but seriously, who the hell puts cheese
on the top of their apple pie? I just don't get it.
My mom puts it in the crust of an apple pie & adds a sugary crumble on the top. Mmmm, good eating

80sCommercialVault

Wesson oil is not from Beatrice???
Yes, it was. Beatrice was sold to ConAgra.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatrice_Foods
ConAgra eventually sold the Wesson brand to Richardson International in 2018
www.foodbusinessnews.net/articles/13053-conagra-finds-another-buyer-for-its-wesson-oil-brand
Was fake cheese such a thing back then, to where they had to make it a point to say "REAL CHEESE"!!
Processed cheese was huge back then, but I believe the cheese/milk campaign was an effort from the dairy industry to curb the effect of the low fat diet craze and the overall increase in margarine usage that occurred during the 70's and 80's.
80sCommercialVault I suppose, like that cheese whiz crap..
Does cheese really have to advertise
I agree with Kenny Rogers there isnt nothing like a Honky Tonk woman.
Peter Pan Peanut Butter was nasty. Worst peanut butter I tasted.
What (Or who) the hell is Beatrice? Thanks to her, I can't look at peanut butter, popcorn, sausages, and drinking water the same way again...
I had to look them up. Apparently it's only appropriate that they should have been pushing water filters, since according to Wikipedia they were involved in a scandal in which they were accused of having "dumped toxic waste which contaminated an underground aquifer that supplied drinking water." I disagree. Peter Pan PB is garbage. That's why choosey moms and I choose JIF.
Oh god, so awesome.
But I think you are going to get me fired from work...
Not funny at all!
Who said these are supposed to be funny?
i dunno
