That Folgers ad and the Miller ad with the horse-drawn carriage running down the street in the snow were iconic ads that aired for years. I wish they still aired them.
I think this was the year when "A Christmas Story" first premiere on TBS cause I remember watching it when my family had cable and I was 3 at the time. Previously, it was on HBO and Cinemax in the mid 80s. Nowadays, this film comes on as a 24 Hour Marathon on Christmas Eve & Day.
seeing a second thing I played with as a child. not exactly the same thing, but the many incarnations of the popup toys. that was my thing back in preschool and pre-K.
mst3kanita Turner's logic was that it would be difficult for a viewer to turn to another channel if that program had already begun. Your reasoning is just as valid though. TBS programs enjoyed their own separate listing in TV Guide and no doubt had some psychological effect.
Your glib summation of 'turners logic' seems to be self defeating. If TBS's shows started at five after, viewers would be locked in to other shows. Seems more likely that he's catching viewers from other channels during their first commercial channel surf.
Mike Troncin Just relating Turner's own stated reasoning. I'm not judging whether it was effective or not. As an avid TBS viewer at the time (Braves, NWA) I found it somewhat annoying.
didn't playskool do an updated version of the robot, alfie a few years ago, or was that just my thinking. I thought they did a modernized version around 2011-2012.

I had the Playskool Disney Poppin’ Pals as a baby.

Almost forgot TBS used to start everything at :05
I'm still not really sure why they did that. It confused me as a kid.
I believe it was so tbs could stand out from other in TV guide listings. Ted turner idea.
