Not to mention the environmental conditions you would be fighting in depending on where you are fighting at. From the muddy and sometimes flooded trenches of the western front where you might fall victim to trench foot and other diseases then actually combat while also having to deal with rats that would attack you in your sleep if you even got any cause of enemy artillery bombardment. The often overlooked and underrated mountain warfare that happened in the European Alps where soldiers have to climb up inhospitable mountains and fight each other in while risking avalanches that the enemy would purposely caused to happened. The eastern front being the eastern front. The hot temps in Africa and the Middle East. To even fighting in the Pacific Islands. It truly was a nightmare no matter where you fought at.
The spears and axes have have not been good by themselves, but that’s why humans worked in numbers. Imagine being a mammoth and getting jumped by a hoard of screaming apes who just start stabbing you to death and trying to make you fall over a cliff
our hunting strategy was to exhaust them first so we could do it alone shockingly although it was exceedingly rare. or that it comes from the idea that the church condemned bathing [in this case bathing refers to using public bath which were by modern standards pretty dirty and many people in medieval and ancient times disliked them ] .
there are records that talk about people using hot water and heated wine to clean themselves which further disproves the myth [i'm pretty sure you know how useful hot water is and how wine contains alcohol which kills bacteria and parasites]

This is why I'm skeptical of religious "end times" theories being applied to the present day. We've had it good for at least more than half a century. People claiming the world is ending have just lived very comfortably for so long and cannot wrap their heads around the cataclysmic nature of the present day. And that's not to say that there isn't potential for some things to go horribly wrong in the future or even the near future.
