true, as a more "normal" member of the younger half of gen z, it really seems like the generation is two different ones congealed together, probably due to the immense amount of change that happened within our time period.
As a Gen Z who spends way too much time, I can say there is a huge divide between Gen Z who are chronically online and Gen Z who actually touch grass. Most people at my school are actual normal functioning members of society because they are actually active and don't spend 15 hours a day on their phones. It's just the Gen Z that actually have no lives that represent Gen Z because that's what people see since most people will only see what's on the internet. So Gen Z does have normal people, but you won't see much of it since they actually touch grass.
Always good to start early, honestly just encouraging a work ethic is good advice. If you're especially smart you work a lot while young, save enough to start a portfolio, and then you can have steady cash flow already coming in your 20's just from that, not even having to work.
The "soft" thing is just a reoccuring thing that people say about every young generation tbh not just a Gen Z thing. Id say the boomers are way more soft with how they get offended by everyone saying stuff like "uhhh thats a bit outta pocket" or something like that. The "Gen Z being soft" thing is such an overgeneralization and from my experience doesnt seem that much different than people of other generations tbh.
@@lionooo The internet is genuinely an insane thing tbh, instantaneous communication across continents, information everywhere, everything is recorded, etc. People are being charged with way more information than any other place in history, in much more density of said information, and it spreads around like wildfire- Faster than some people can even process it, as emotion takes over before thought. No wonder people are so fucked up, we have what is essentially an eldritch brick on our hands at all times at all places, or a big eldritch brick in your home.
The root of all Gen Z problems is the need to feel special. Young people get so invested in politics these days because they think that they’re “it”. That’s what leaves us with dudebro red-pill boys and social justice warriors.
The parts about boomers and gen x not knowing how to use technology and refusing to learn it, millennials saying no good media existed in the 2000s and onward, and the dumb/fatal challenges from gen z hit home for me.
As a younger-end Gen Z’er with Boomer parents, I think that I kind of turned into them a little…. and thats not bad. I was raised with the old fashioned principles of ruggedness, economic growth, and self-reliance, but I also have the “skills” and social awareness that they lack which is gained through being a Gen Z guy. So, I think I got the best of both worlds. 🙂
@cecilthecavetroll9743 my parents are Gen X and I always remember them telling me to never feel too old to learn. I guess there's a difference between having boomer and Gen X parents as an Gen Z person. I'm an early year Gen Z individual.
The crazy part is Gen X invented all the tech we use, they just refuse to actually use it lmao My dad is gen X and he uses TikTok, has every gaming system known to man, and has 2 tablets and 2 cell phones. He’s more advanced than I am lmao
But it's gonna be pretty fun. We would be considered "The weird grandparents" but does it matter. We ain't gonna be playing chess, we would be hopping on a Minecraft SMP and trolling eachother.
Boomers used to be considered young and rebellious with hippies and social movements. Now they're old and the opposite of rebellious. Gen Z isn't even as rebellious as boomer hippies.
Lmao hearing you mention ice-bucket challenge I was in like 7th grade when having the back of your head slapped during the smack cam era. Honestly that stuff feels so long ago and admittedly..Man I wanna experience those years again despite the ups and downs.
As a Millennial, I appreciate the reality check. We and Gen Z need to train Gen Alpha to overthrow the Boomers and the worst of Gen X once and for all. Your description of Gen Z is scarily a mirror into how our generation was, with some differences. We had our cringe then, and we enjoyed it, dammit!
@@inversion9651 Yeah some old people are tight. I mean the Boomers™ clutching our political and economic opportunities by the balls with their increasingly claw-like hands.
1:45 in my country saying "colored people" is a norm. Even them themselves call themselves colored, and it's not offensive to anyone. But then again I don't live in the west🤷🏾♂️, so thank God for that
In America, we use people of color, so I don’t understand why colored people is offensive. They only difference between those two phrases is their history.
Lets think for a second, Gen x: thinks millennials are lazy Millennials: thinks gen z is lazy Gen z: thinks gen alpha is lazy Maybe gen z is just getting old and outdated
10:35 "aesthetic" and "core" are some of the most consistently repetitive and annoying words Hell, i saw a video with the thumbnail including a music genre called "lolicore". This is absolutely insane.
As a young millennial (93), I feel more connected with older gen z peeps. We pretty much grew up with similar tv shows, music, video games, etc. I always hated seeing my peers shit on gen z teens when we were facing the same backlash a decade ago.
The end of gen Z is quite debatable. If you're born in USA or Canada, you would be saying its ends in 2012, or if you're born in 2010-2012 yourself you would be saying Gen Z is 1997-2012. Some may argue that it ends within 2009/2010 itself with some actual reasons, or within some sources and websites. And finally, people who don't like to argue much like me will say that 2010-2012 are zalphas rather then just Gen Z's.
As someone who was born in very early Gen Z, and still remembers the wild west era of the internet, and a time before everyone had smartphones, I find that I have much more in common socially with millennials than I do with my own generation. I look at 99.9% of Gen Z today and I feel like a Boomer! XD
To be fair, millennials often did stuff just as weird as Gen Z, the main difference is how often it was recorded on camera and uploaded to the internet. When the internet enters your life as a teenager rather than as a young child it makes you more cautious as to what you put online.

I said this in another comment. Gen X were called "The MTV Generation" and were often referred to as "slackers" because they were supposedly "lazy". In actuality, they were, like Gen Z and Alpha, were just young and, like Gen Z in particular, the job market was terrible when the older Gen Xers were young but, as always, the older people couldn't seem to acknowledge that.

I would be absolutely pissed. You are basically book-burning any media, no matter how fucked up it is, just because some random guy on Twitter got offended.
I think every generation has something they’re sensitive/soft about. Like boomers for example, would foam at the mouth if they saw a black person using the same bathroom as them. Or Gen x’s losing their shit when the younger generation isn’t “working hard enough” although inflation is at an all time high. Or how Gen Z is sensitive not treating everyone as equals no matter their gender, race, or sexuality and bigotry will get you cancelled. Although A lot of Gen Z’s have taken canceling too far and don’t believe in second chances.
I would honestly say the whole cancelling/doxxing people into oblivion with no second chances is more of a millennial thing, Gen Z is the same in the regard of accepting everyone as equals, although there are some that do the complete opposite.
I’m a younger Gen Z’er with Boomer parents and they aren’t racist. Are they an exception? Or is the whole “Boomers hate blacks” thing just way out of proportion.
@@cecilthecavetroll9743nah it’s just back in the day that generation grew up in a time where racism was very prevalent, but ofc not all of them were racist. Even for my grandmother who isn’t bigoted still has some old fashioned ways of thinking, but ofc that’s not everyone
5:48 I am Gen Z and under 18 but as a Californian, I can confirm that that is accurate. No but seriously, on Zillow, the house I live it is like 6-700K and this house is up a hill and has the goofiest infrastructure. We found a dead possum under the house, until like a year ago, we had metal pipes that hadn’t been replaced since the hoe was built (which meant the pipes were literally crumbling), and our bitch ass bird bit some of the wood that makes up the outer wall on the porch. By the way, we have a bitch ass bird you can hear squawk from at least like 2 blocks away.
Californian house prices have nothing to do with generations, but do have everything to do with California barely even being a state of the union with how fucking corrupt it is and how unconstitutional a lot of its laws and politicians are. Same kinda thing happening in Hawaii; everyone's too distracted by hollywood, nice beaches, nature, pleasant weather, and technology to actually pay attention to their local elections.
The worst part of Gen z is if you're in a certain group, you can be doxed by someone with no life. Not doing anything wrong BTW, but just existing in a group. People have too much time on their hands these days.

as someone who is a Millennial, you aren't exactly wrong. some of us really are like that though to be fair considering the way some individuals in Gen Z act, i'm sure it's understandable as to why some of us shit on them as much as we do.
My Great Grandpa is older than all these generations, he was born in 1930, and died in 2016. The worst part about his generation is their hearing. I don’t know how many times i’ve had to repeat myself and yell so dude could hear me. If ya’ll got a grandparent with only a few years left, and served in the military, prepare yourself for constant “HUH?” “SAY THAT AGAIN SON?” “PUT SOME BASS IN YO VOICE!”. My Great Grandpa was operating a tank in the Vietnam and Korean War though so hat probably explains it. My other grandparents closest to his age can actually hear at least.
Gen Z'er here ('03), I'd like to say that in my 20 years of living the thing that makes my gen awful is how the internet has formed us, cliche I know but it's true. I grew up with spending a lot of time surfing the web, and honestly I wish I had gotten out more. Right now I'm trying to better myself with going out more, finding hobbies, stuff to get me away from the bad side of the internet, mainly the things that are massively recommended to us, news, twitter stuff, controversies, etc. I'm not saying social media is a bad thing, but I genuinely believe it should be moderated in use. I do have hope for us though, we're just in our awkward phase, sooner or later we can try and make the world a better place for the next generations while fixing the mistakes the previous ones had done.
Something that I noticed with Gen X is that their ideas of jokes are usually very specific. They don't get random jokes or banter, it has to have a punchline to be a joke to them, I think it completely fits with the fact that they work too much, it literally destroyed their humor down to the basics.
Hey man Gen X here, I just want to say great vid, fair and balanced. Very humorous and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially the fact that everybody gets made fun of and has to take their shot as it should be. I can see totally where it is you're coming from saying we got a lot of our attitude and worldview from boomers, but you got to understand we really hated a lot of their ideas regarding other cultures and ethnicities, what they believed to be cultural standards or social norms so we rebelled against it. This was the cause of many clashes in the household amongst family. But at the same time we're probably the most screwed up with no external cause to blame as the source, such as the case with the internet and social media, etc etc.
We just had the threat of WWIII, amongst other stuff. Im a late Gen X, I was so very young in 1980. But boy do I remember the fear of The Bomb. (UK here) ads on TV telling us how to survive. It was super scary. And the leaflets. I couldn't read them. But....!!!!! The pictures!!!!!
@kaydisney9872 yeah that's another thing they literally taught us that getting underneath your desk curled up in a ball would save you from a nuclear blast. Didn't find out later they only told us that because if you're outside of a certain scope of a radius of the blast, bodies are easier to clean up in the wreckage.
@kaydisney9872 not really it's an old Kevin Meene joke. Figured sooner or later someone would get the reference. 🤣 Look it up it's freaking hilarious, super old school humor.
As a millennial, we were totally thought to be the end of humanity! The 1st weird generation to spend so much time online and on social media. To be honest, as a tech nerd Gen Z make a lot of sense to me and I can often relate. We’ve both spent all of our working lives with no hope of retiring and locked-out of much of the things older generations took for granted.
Never forget to differentiate between Early Gen Z ('97 to '01) and Late Gen Z ('02 to '09) as they are very different. Many Early Gen Z hates being associated with Late Gen Z.
This is like w/ the gen alphas. Early Gen Alphas ('10 - '13) hates getting associated w/ the late Gen Alphas ('14 and over). I might be a Gen Alpha since I was born in 2010 but I also thing I'm A Gen Z since I grew up w/ a Gen Z childhood

If you start saving now there’s a 50% chance you’ll be able to afford one by the time you’re 90….

Yeah, because Boomers DEFINITELY don't think they're the best generation to grace the earth. If anybody thinks they're "it" it's the boomers.

To be fair, millennials often did stuff just as weird as Gen Z, the main difference is how often it was recorded on camera and uploaded to the internet. When the internet enters your life as a teenager rather than as a young child it makes you more cautious as to what you put online.
Same. I was born in 98 and I still remember the pre-smartphone days pretty well.

Honestly, most the complaints for gen z and gen alpha are derived from them being young.
