- Penitents practice flagellation and even crucifixion on Good Friday, April 7 in Barangay San Pedro Cutud in San Fernando, Pampanga.
Flagellation and crucifixion are discouraged by the Catholic Church. Most of the Philippines' Catholic faithful observe the Holy Week through prayer and fasting.

I find that giving to charity, helping those less well-off than you and generally being a good person all year round is a better indication of faith than an ostentatious episode of self-abuse once a year. It doesn't make them more pious.

This is not a crazy Catholic tradition, but a reliving of a historic fact.
By the way, the Roman Catholic religion is the only true religion. Look for example how many SAINTS we have, how many miracles we have etc. Look up Saint Padre Pio and his hundreds of documented miracles, even after his death. Or: Saint Charbel from Lebanon.
