43 years ago at 13, hanging out with my older brother and he puts this on. I've been warped ever since! 🙃

My very favourite FZ piece - what a genius he was - I had a friend who worked as a session musician in London who was lucky enough to work with FZ, he said that Frank was a perfectionist and very demanding - I guess when you hear great musicianship like this it shows !

Have been listening to FZ music since 1972, and I love your reaction to this suite ("sweet" not "suit"). Your enthusiasm is exactly the point Frank was trying to elicit. Thanks you. His 1,000 albums are all amazing. He was a genius, to be remembered for 200 years, I think.

Yes, it was Frank singing, and it was Tina Turner and the Ikettes doing backing vocals on this album along with the Overnight Sensation album they were both recorded at Ike Turner's Bolic Sound. Those are marimbas (wood) not xylophones (metal)

The lyric announces itself as a transcript of a dream - and, as usually happens in dreams, perspectives suddenly change
(the Fur Trapper takes over as the protagonist)
    and characters are merged
(at the very end, we wonder if Nanook, the Fur Trapper and the Parish Lady are all one and the same...unless "your Highness" really is just a casual reference to an old television commercial).
I don't think there's much point looking for deeper meanings in this song (despite the best efforts of a certain Zappa biographer). After all the first thing you notice is the amount of Toilet Humour!
Frozen dog piss can be used as an antiseptic, but we later find out why the yellow snow is deadly - it contains both piss and shit ("dog-doo snow-cone"). When Nanook attacks the fur-trapper he's symbolically masturbating (rubbing with a "vigorous circular motion") and, in keeping with old superstition, someone then goes blind. The Fur Trapper, blinded, intuitively finds his way to St Alfonzo's parish and restores his eyesight with the aid of margarine (another viscous substance), only to be confronted by Father O'Blivion, who is implied to have been masturbating while making the pancakes (the leprechaun business). The priest is either literally or just metaphorically making his worshippers eat jism and eat shit (the "pancakes" are brown as well as white).
No wonder Frank later added another section to the suite (the Rollo section, featured in 1978-79 live performances) which adds to both the grossness and the anti-religious attitude.
