Literally no one like Zappa. Musical genius with 100pct tongue in cheek sense of humor. His brain was just different 😅
...likes...
His ideas about government and culture were extreme at the time. But he predicted most of the stupidity going on now.
Love his music
This album is a masterpiece. You guys should listen to it front to back. I miss Frank.
No other musician on the planet, living or dead, has made more of an impact observing the human condition than Frank Zappa. I would give anything to hear his comments about humans nowadays, considering there's a LOT more ignorant humans than ever before!! Miss you Frank... RIP.
agree about the ignorance, guess its part of our local, state, and federal "leadership"...
"I write and play music for myself, my sole intended audience" Frank Zappa
It's great to see you young guys discover Frank. I'm 64 years old. I've loved him since I was 16.
Frank Zappa was a superb musician & storyteller R.I.P.
Frank left genius in his dust. On playing his music, I've heard musicians in interviews comment on how difficult bordering on the impossible it was to play his music. There will never be another Zappa. The music industry won't support it.
It's a thin line between genius and crazy.
He wrote and played for the lovers of great music, not the music biz, much respect
There's only one Frank Zappa. Not just one of the greatest musicians ever, but also by far one of the funniest lyricists.
As a kid who grew up in Canada this song was a cautionary tale
I had the immense pleasure of shaking hands with Frank Zappa at Dorval in Montreal in 1974.
Lucky you Marc❗ I must tell you that Women who were into his Music 🎵 and his Genius, found him incredibly SEXY because he was one of a kind. Confidence galore and always evolving. A treasure. R.I.P.
First time I heard this was in HS art class - '76 I think . This album made me laugh, but at the same time, we were amazed at how wild the music is. Glad you guys like it.
One of the great American composers of the 20th century
Absolutely, genius level. Zappa was from another dimension, I’m convinced.🔥🔥
Now THIS is Xmas music 😂 you have yellow snow, dog doo
doo, pancakes and a leprechaun stroking it!
Merry Christmas everyone 😊
Frank was a must at our regular poker games and we sang along knowing all the words. We all loved Frank
Poker and maybe some mother nature perhaps!
My very first exposure to Zappa---- been hooked ever since. Man was a genius...
There's been many documentary type programs about Zappa. And many interviews in trade magazines like Guitar Player. He used to hire entire orchestras, and would sit them down and set the sheet music in front of them. One guy they interviewed was an old man who played violin. And he said "I asked him how he learned to do all this ? And Frank answered " I went to the library ."
I think when God was handing out brains, Frank got in line twice
Great story John ❗ Thanks for that 😊
Yup, in the 80s there were two albums released of the London Symphony orchestra playing music composed and arranged entirely by Zappa
Zappa would actually conduct the band on stage with a baton in his hand. He was composer, producer, arranger, lyricist, conductor, vocalist and stunning lead guitarist. He was also a mentor to all his other musicians, and pushed them to levels they never even dreamed they could achieve. For instance, Zappa encouraged George Duke to try synthesizers (which he did very successfully) and shaped the sound and tone of musicians like Steve Vai. By the way, I believe Zappa actually started out as a drummer.

More Zappa ! , More Zappa ! , More Zappa !
Glad to see y'all react to Frank Zappa. "I am the Slime" is a great song.
and more relevant than ever
He was delighted as it stiffened and ripped right through his sock.
One of my Saturday morning ‘cleaning the apartment’ albums. 💜
After all these years I still sing along to these Zappa songs…. Great googly moogly!
Zappa is a genius and kind of an acquired taste. A very talented musician. Joe's Garage is a rabbit hole to go down for sure.
The story I heard was that when Lowell George, then a member of the Mothers, brought him his song “Willin’”, Zappa told him it was tome to start his own band, & we got Little Feat! Another great reaction. ✌️❤️🎶
He kicked him out of the band for writing a song about drugs. Good for us.
@@Royale_with_Cheeze Really, name one artist in Frank's band that WASN'T good enough to be on their own. What a silly argument.
Y'all need, neeeed to get on this whole album. Thanks, guys.
Now that you mention it, I don't remember ever dancing at a Frank concert. On my feet more than once, but not dancing!
If you want some more commercially tinged songs from Frank here's a few: Camarillo Brillo, Po-Jama People, Bobby Brown, Joe's Garage (the song) & one of the greatest instrumentals Black Napkins.
Zappa’s his own deal. One of the best blues songs ever. “ from my heart to yours “
Directly From My Heart To You was a Little Richard song that Frank and the Mothers played brilliantly with Don "Sugarcane" Harris on violin and lead vocals.
Black Napkins is so good, I had no idea Frank could play the guitar like that.
Zappa was definitely a vibe 😂 His creativity is crazy
Frank Zappa is and will always be someone to look up to in music. He developed his music, his way and was always true to his craft.
You either immediately get that Zappa is on a level of his own, or you are left scratching your head and dont get it, you guys get it! Zappa is a huge rabbit hole. Incredible composer and producer, underrated guitar player
I can't listen to this without laughing and I've been hearing it since it came out, just genius.
Me too! Great GooglyMoogly!
Frank Zappa is a legend and just a cool dude! He sings like he's rapping! A unique musician!
Crazy, genius composer! Imagine the fun working with him!
Fella's, if you want to hear a great Zappa album check out Zoot Allures. The song The Torture Never Stops is WILD. Frank was a musical genius. He wrote every part for every instrument and actually scored it on paper. Been listening to him for years.
Flies all green and buzzin'
In this dungeon of despair
Yea I had that album. Remember at the time a friend told me that Zoot Allures was from some African language meaning “Oh Shit” I don’t know if that is true or not. I did get to see him live a couple times in the seventies.
Start with the Title Track, just to get them hooked...
It's actually a French exclamation. Like Darn it, damn it, shoot, etc.@@bradsense7431
8:38 oh snap yall are doing the whole jam👍🏾👌🏾
No matter how many times you listen to Frank’s songs you hear something you missed. Awesome!
Great reaction gentlemen!! And Che, “He sizzled my brain” is just fantastic!!
Frank was other worldly!!! RIP FZ.🥁☮☘
he wasn't high when he wrote it but most of us were high when we listened to it.
Can you imagine what the musical charts looked like as these musicians read and performed . this is insane music
Freaking drumming was just insane.
They actualy did it with Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart and that album is the most unhinged thing ever and it took months for the band to learn how to play what Zappa wrote for them.
Ruth Underwood was so good on this album. Her percussion was right on time... Her "Classic Albums" interview about the "Apostrophe" and "Overnight Sensation" albums is really cool.
A million thanks for some ZAPPA. His catalog is immense. He was one of a kind. I’m a huge fan and anything I could write or say about him has already been done. I’ve read his books and seen and own almost every video of him air and ones he’s created. Peace
Lowell George and Roy Estrada, founding members of Little Feat, both played in Zappa's band before forming the Feat.
I’m 62, Lol my big bro who’s gonna be 70 this month. Turned me on to Frank. I didn’t mean to come across badly. How cool is it, that we not only have these guys not only reacting to Frank. But are actually hearing his genius. We both know you either hear Frank or you don’t. Merry Christmas my brother 🎅🏻
Love him or hate him, you cannot deny the fact he was very creative and the band was very tight.
I saw Frank Zappa in concert in Germany around 1980. He told the crowd to step back and sit down because we're going to have fun! Everyone listened and it was perhaps the most enjoyable live show I have ever been to. You could get up and go get something to eat and drink and go back and join your friends!
He writes/wrote it all and he writes his own musical scores by hand
America's Greatest Composer!
Chronologically, by birth: Stephen Foster (1826), Irving Berlin (1888), Cole Porter (1891), George Gershwin (1898), Frank Zappa (1940), Paul Simon (1941)
The looks on BOTH of your faces during the melody here is what I call "Frank Face"...he's GOT YOU❗️❗️
George Duke played keys for Zappa in early - mid 70"s (Overnite Sensation/ Apostrophe/ One Size Fits All) -- phenomenal jazz artist and composer who was core to chemistry of those albums. Co-wrote and vocals on Uncle Remus off Apostophe is great expample of his talent
I didn’t know he co-wrote Uncle Remus! Wow!
The first album i listen from Frank, i was 15 years old. I thought, there is music and there is Frank Zappa. After that i was hooked.
Great reaction guys, yeah Frank was a genius, another great one I love is Dinah Moe Hum off the Over-Nite Sensation album
He was a genius and he was self-taught in music, famous for saying: If you want to get laid, go to college. If you want to get educated, go to the library.
He wasn't a songwriter, he was a composer
In terms of his writing and melodies, nobody was as brilliantly volatile as Zappa. I couldn't even fathom the depths of his mind that he reached to make something like this
Frank was always showing the establishment music industry that he could make excellent music with nonsensical lyrics and the people would love it.
Sense of humor. Sense of Timing, Sense of Sound, Sense of Spiritual experimentation. Just alot of Sense....Zappa. 2+23+2024
Saw them live in the 70’s at Maples Pavilion, Stanford University- incredible the performance unbelievable. The music breaks - I was high , and shit they were just insanely good.
I saw him in 71, I think that it was the Just Another Band From L.A. tour with the guys from the Turtles in his band..they did an unreal performance of Willie the Pimp...
"My music is like a movie for your ears": FZ.
Thaks for react to this. One of my Zappa's Jam's
Zappas a genius for sure......the story is from a dream he had and was able to retain the story when he woke and then put it to music
This album, along with Parliament, Dr. Demento, Mel Brooks, and Monty Python's Flying Circus helped to warp my sense of humor and general world view. To this day I have been know to ask "is that a real poncho or a Sears poncho?"
You have to understand the time in life... I had Frank Zappa and P-Funk on 8 track at the same time!! Life and music was SO GOOD!
Just in time for winter... words to live by with a funky beat
There is a Blu-ray of this lineup called Roxy - the Movie that captures what this band was capable of and how Frank directed and interacted with these musicians. The percussion is to die for...
PURE GENIUS!!! Lowell George, Bill Payne, Roy Estrada and Richie Hayward all members of The Mothers Of Invention before forming Little Feat. Frank was so far ahead of his time. Excellent reaction fellas 👌 Appreciate you 🙏 ❤
It's really pretty much who DIDN'T play with Frank Zappa?? He had Flo & Eddie from the Turtles in his band, he's had Steve Vai in his band, he's had George Duke in his band, he's had Terry Bozzio in his band! The list is enormous and not to mention that he discovered Alice Cooper too!!😮😮❤
Chester Thompson on drums, for a while (Between his gigs with Mahavishnu Orchestra and touring with Genesis). Jean-Luc Ponty on violin, too!
Adrian Belew,,Who played with Talking Heads, King Crimson, and more
Vinnie Colaiuta,Who played for Allan Holddworth, Leonard Cohen,Joni Mitchell
Among other musicians who played with Zappa
And the great Ruth Underwood.
As a producer he is responsible for Grand Funk Railroad ,Good Singin 'Good Playin'
Saw Zappa and the Mothers 4 times in the 70's. One of the shows became the album Just Another Band From L.A. Phenomenal showman! With nothing but some of the finest musicians on the world!
Thanx for the great reaction. I´m looking forward to your next Zappa-reaction. The songs Andy or San Ber´dino would be nice.
I feel like as I get older and learn more about things, read about topics and generally develop my worldview, there's always something new I can pull out of a Zappa album where I seem to understand better. He had his own way of looking at society and he made his recording career a whole entire in-joke that was a reflection of his worldview, using the term "conceptual continuity" to describe it. That being said, I don't really know what socio-political statement the Yellow Snow Suite was trying to convey, but its a lot of fun and one of his more approachable works and it contains terms that were from prior songs in his career to retain the whole conceptual continuity thing. Frank was on his own wavelength; he put in the work on his own at the library learning how to read and write orchestral music and attracted some of the most talented musicians from prestigious college music programs around based on those abilities that he learned on his own.
I went to two Zappa concerts in 1988 when I was 19, and I can confirm I was not dancing, a lot of us had our eyes closed and were just listening. He also performed this whole suite live in the late 70's.
I have seen Frank Zappa & Band back in the early 70's... The show was mind blowing to say the least. They preformed this suite of songs as there opener... WOW I'm still trying to wrap my head around that show till this day!!
Inca Roads is the song from him that made me a fan Its amazing check it out
they did
I think they did Inca Roads.
About the drugs and his band. There was a saying "Window or Aisle" meaning which seat would you like for your trip home if you did drugs. It was his name that would suffer if a band member screwed up. Flo and Eddy were the only members to smoke a joint in the studio ONE TIME and keep their job. They had just been hired and were very early on their first day. They begged for their lives to stay in the band. As punishment he hired a German Teacher and made them learn German and translate when in Europe. I went to all 5 Dweezilla events. Flo and Eddy told this story to us
True musical genius
Frank and a razor blade. My f'in HERO. Genius is spot on.
When I was kid in 70s my Dad only had country music on the radio or on tv on the weekend evenings. On days he was in a really happy mood it was this song or Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues. He always surprised me that he had even heard those and loved them both )
I was 18 when this album' hit. My brother and I went to see Frank and the band in Memphis and when they played this set, I'm nearly fell out.... they actually played it well! I couldn't imagine.
It.
Frank Zappa was a one of kind musical genius who had a magical imagination that fused impeccable musicians hip with storytelling and comedy! Just so gifted and a one off badass guitarist!! R.I.P. Frank Zappa…
Well put John❗ After High School classes,my gang of friends would go party in Vito's basement and listen to Frank Zappa through 4 feet tall VOICE OF THE THEATER speakers. We were hard core Zappa fans🎵🎵🎵
Frank zappa music was like looking at an abstract painting. An interesting journey always.
You guys NEVER miss an important detail. I really think you are consistently the BEST at making these reaction videos of anyone out there, and that's saying something.
Frank Zappa always had great musicians in his bands to play his music correctly.
Keep listening to Frank you two, I was lucky enough to have seen him in London 1988. Never been to a gig after that, that mattered
I can only imagine
I remember sitting around in a friends basement in the 70s, getting stoned, listening to this for the first time. It's still mind blowing stuff all these years later! You have to listen to it a few times. Try it with a little attitude adjustment...
Don't be afraid to smile guys.......it's funnnny!
"And he stood up and he looked around and said I can't see!". 😂
Time to hit "Broken Hearts Are For Assholes" A timeless classic! lol
And a great song for weddings.
Yes, One of his best love songs.
I watch a lot of Zappa reactions. Yours are among the best. No BS, you have good ears and good comments. I’ve been a fan since 1973 when someone brought the album that “Billy the Mountain” is on (Just Another Band from LA) and I was hooked at 15 years old.
You can’t see Frank anymore, but his son Dweezl has a band - Zappa Plays Zappa - and the concerts are as amazing as you could imagine! If they come your way, get tix!
Zappa played a bicycle as an instrument on the Steve Allen Show, late 60's. Pure musical genius
Hated this when I first heard it. It grew on me over time. My kids loved it! Thanks for the reaction.
This man composed music of this caliber and he was completely self-taught.....Frank scored notation for all his pieces, you couldn't arrange something like this without doing so.....he was, without a doubt, a genius, and this is why he walked the line between brilliance and craziness. This is what happens when you have an infinite imagination for music. Great reaction guys thanks.....
Ha!!!! Look up Zappa Jewish Princess......
Wow, this is amazing! I've never heard the whole thing before. At several points I wondered if the people who wrote and played the songs for Schoolhouse Rock were Zappa fans.
Zappa is amazing! Started listening to him when I was 8 in 1979. Babysitter turned me onto him!
Great story Robert❗ Lucky you for having a BABYSITTER like that❗🎵
Do a LIVE of him doing "Cosmic Debris" also from this LP. Always love the energy fellas!
I am 59 and have been listening to ZAPPA for 45yrs and yes you can dance to Zappa quince got it from him
Definitely worth listening to the whole record. Love to see you guys ready to “I’m The Slime.” Uncle Frank used everything but the kitchen sink and never-NEVER-stopped writing and working.
Shout out to Ruth Underwood on the xylophone specifically on St Alphonso's.🎶🎵
