    Hey I'm 15 and just got out of the hospital yesterday after being there for 2 weeks due to my chrohns. I got an ileostomy. Your advice makes this process so much easier to handle. With every video I become less and and less overwhelmed by everything going on. Thank you.

    Having a new Ostomy “11 weeks post op” I appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos. You and so many others have helped with marking being an ostomate a lot easier.

    WOW Your like an Ostomy star! I'm impressed that you go all around like this. I want to tell you how much help you have been because talking to people who don't have one is hard. I am impressed on how much you do and then have time to answer each comment. I am trying to get the hang of your website because it's great to talk to other people too. By the way I did ask my surgeon about the enemas and anal beads to keep my rectum and anus in shape. He gave me the side eye and walked away :( Thanks again for all you do. And I'm glad all those companies know about you. I mentioned you in a e-mail to Hollister but I see you're covered :)

      @@VeganOstomy, I wish he did too. I asked him to look at the skin around my stoma because I was having problems with iy. He said he didn't need to see it! I'd get a new surgeon but he took me apart so I think I want him to be the one to put me back together. At the same time, I'm worried about the question I asked because he might screw up on purpose. I think I worry too much. Thanks.

      @@bereal6590 Thank you. I can't believe that was 2 years ago! I am still sorting thins out, but I think my guts are finally straightened out (1 incisional hernia though). I'm in the U.S. so every doctor I see finds something else wrong with me! That's what I need to sort out. I am finding out just what you said about them not being there for me, except my heart doctor. Thank you for the comment and I wish you the best.

    I have a question. How do I remove urine and soil smell from clothes and bedding???

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you talking about bedding that can be washed or something like a mattress?

    • @kirstenkettell5577

      Sheets and blankets, etc.

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Add some vinegar with your laundry detergent. If that doesn't work, look into pet urine cleaning products. Some have enzymes that might help to get rid of the smell, but detergent should generally be enough. I will say that when I used to have overnight leaks, I would spray hydrogen peroxide on the stain (after it's been cleaned quickly) and that helps to prevent staining and probably neutralizes odors. I've never had an issue doing this.

      I (thank goodness) never get leaks in the bed or on my clothes, due to my amazing ostomy products, but I used to SOAK just the soiled area of, say, a sheet in a bowl I kept for that purpose. An overnight soak in hot water and a good detergent (Ariel) removes stains - and smells. Then a quick rinse of the area and into the washing machine.....sorted. No smell whatsoever!! Vanish powder is also amazing to soak a stain out. Soak the stain as soon as you can.....don't leave it to "dry in" to the material. If it's in the night.....keep a small plastic bucket with some Soaking powder or liquid to hand and just pop the soiled area in to soak. By morning, it should be ready to rinse and wash. There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON for clothing and bedding to smell at all these days!! A lot of ostomy supply companies supply SOFT WATERPROOF BED LINERS, which are only about 3ft x 2ft, which can just be placed under the sheet in the area your stoma lays. They are small enough and take up no room in luggage, so you can take these with you on holiday, as you don't want to be staining the hotel's mattress!! At home, I've got a couple of super quality FULL MATTRESS PROTECTOR base sheets, with elasticated edges, which stretch fully over and tuck deeply in under the mattress. They have a soft peach skin like surface on the sleep side, with a soft TOTALLY WATERPROOF BACKING (NOT one of those awful "crackly" plastic ones of the past) they have moved on with the quality of these. A bit more expensive...but SO worth It!! I then place whatever bedding I want on top of the protector. Mattresses are so expensive and very difficult to remove stains from. My mattress is like new!! Hope this helps. Teddy UK.
