Haha! Yup. My biggest piece of advice is to make sure you are 110% on your artist name, as Spotify and Apple Music are really cracking down on artist name changes these days, as some people are taking advantage of this and releasing songs multiple times to try and promote them.

Thanks so much! Very helpful! Loved the walk through. Question: I'll be releasing as a solo artist AND as part of a group. Will this work for this situation? I collaborated with the group members and need to make sure everyone gets their share. (We're doing the splits differently for the composition and sound recording copyrights for the group.) We'll also need a different email for the group than I'm using for my solo project. Will I be able to do this through my 2nd artist name? Thanks!
If you need a completely different login and email address for the DistroKid management you’d need a separate account. You can do al this through the one account and you will get a lot of the Musician Plus benefits from doing this, but it will be slightly more difficult to manage.

When changing your artist name on all your current live releases, will it automatically create a new artist page on streaming services? Specifically Spotify and Apple Music? I havent gotten clear info on this. Needed to know if I’m better off creating a new distrokid profile entirely and deleting my current releases from my old name and re-uploading them under my new name.
Hey there. This video might as more focused on creating a new and second artist name. It’s generally not advisable to change artist name as Apple Music and Spotify have cracked down on this lately due to to artists attempting to re-promote the same songs multiple times under different names. Thank you for the insight...it has helped me a great deal...I just want to know this...I have the musician plus subscription and I want to use it for two separate artiste...do both artiste get different accounts to receive their streaming money or would streams for both artistes go to the same account?
Both artist names can be reported on separately but are paid in to the one account which is whoever the owner of the account is. If you want complete separation you’ll need separate accounts.
How does it work under "Special Access" on your official artist channel? Does it give you two different sections to manage?

When I try to type in my second artist name, Spotify automatically says "You're all set!", I don't get the chance to say that the artist is not already in Spotify, although I haven't released anything under this name before and there doesn't seem to be any artists of the same name when I've searched on Spotify... Hey there. Yes, if it’s a new name it should just go through and create the new artist. You can always use the “Fixer” tool afterwards if there are any issues.

I have uploaded a track for a friend of mine, where it's still in the pre-release process as of now (more than 2 weeks) and was wondering on how to claim the second Spotify Artist Page, due to it telling me I've already claimed an 'Early Access Account' where I wanted to claim his account before the official release. The thing with this situation is that you have to wait until it’s release apparently (which obviously sucks), as my artist didn’t have any songs out making it only possible to have access to Spotify Artist Page when it’s officially out (but then again, I’ll have to look into it a bit more with a future artist that I’m trying to get started, so until then, will let you know then)

I'm just starting out with a buddy of mine with uploading music to Distrokid. I want my artist name to be B-Dawg, but it is already taken, but I do see more than one B-dawg on Spotify. Are duplicate artist names OK, or will they make me pick a different artist name?

You can use a duplicate name, it I always recommend to try to pick a unique name, as it prevents issues with songs showing up on the incorrect artist in Spotify, Apple Music etc. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid

Hey there. So, if it s an already released song then technically it’s a cover and needs to be released as a cover. Since it’s unlikely that they will protect their song and care about royalties, so perhaps you can release as an original?

But, can it still show up as being my main artist when looking at the song from the secondary artist? Example - Foo Fighters released a metal album last month under the name Dream Widow' so when you search for sobg by that artist nane only this album comes up. But when you play a song it says Dream Widow/name of song/Foo Fighters. Is that an option? This is what I noticed on Spotify.
Hey there. I believe it is not possible. In my experience it treats each individual artist as completely separate.
If i released music as a different name prior, but then deleted the music because of how common the name was and then created a new one. Now its time to change it again. do you know if Ill be able to use a second artist name with distrokid considering the first name I registered doesnt have any music released?
You should be able to use the second artist name if you have Musician Plus. If you want to change your origins artist name I believe you would need to ask DistroKid - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
So do you also have to create another ASCAP or BMI as well ? Or it’ll just fall under your first ACC for ASCAP or BMI

It will be automatically created for you once you submit a song with the second artist name.

Different. Your first release will go to a generic TH-cam channel, then on e you have a second release, a new topic channel will be created.

If you have a Musician Plus plan, you can choose to add a new artist if you’ve only release using your first artist name. If you e already released as both you’ll have a drop down selector.

You can get a completely separate artist page on most platforms and customise as you would your original.
Hello, I have a quick question. I just upgraded my plan to musician plus and was charged $35 even though I paid my $20 fee for the basic membership just a few months ago. I won't be charged $55 every year will I?
Hey Sally. With this within your first year? They will pro-rate your payment in the first year but not in subsequent years. You will only be charged the single yearly amount from now on however.

Here’s my problem. I’ve released a friend of mines music, 2nd artist, but now that I want to release a collab with someone else it will not allow me to input any new artist names… it will only allow me to choose my artist name or my friends who I released before.

Yup. You’ll need to upgrade of your want a third artist. You can of course add a featured artist in the title. Or set it up to offer the collaborator a split and their own account. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid

Hey there. The artist name and title are completely separate from the meta data you enter. The stores will just grab the artist name and title directly. If there's a featured artist, or you have splits set up, it won't really do anything on Spotify, Apple Music etc.

Hey there. You have one account with DistroKid that has the two artist names. Once you release your first song with the second artist name you then have access to select between the two (or more if you have multiple artist names). Hi Man! Awesome Content 🤙🏻 I have one problem still and i'm not able to find any solution.. i have the + abo, so i can have two artist accounts. I did write a song with a friend of mine and we want to be both main artists for this song on our release, that's why i chose the + abo. but somehow it is not possible to have both accounts for our first co-release-upload.. if we use our names with a "," in-between, then we only get one spotify account access and not two... is there any solution for that or am i on a wrong train of thoughts.. 😩 thanks for your answers and the whole community :) cheers

Now I when I want to add a single to one of them Distrokid says: "Your current plan only allows 2 artist names. To use more artist names, please upgrade your account." Just contact them here. We used to select “I need help with my music in services” and then “I need to make edits to or delete my release” and describe the problem. Hope it helps:)

Hi Pete I was gonna ask because my friend recently dropped a song on spotify, my Spotify name IS "VIVID EVIL" and when he dropped it it didn't go on my account it went onto another account called "VIVID EVIL" the exact name so I don't know what to do but I'd rather get the credit for being a feature instead of a random person 😂

I already have a personal topic page for my own music, but I was thinking of creating a second topic page that includes not only just my music, but along with the music that my team composed altogether. I do have one more question, if my music is already on my personal topic channel, but I also be able to include it on my second topic as well?
Anyone know how to split two artists off of an account ?
On e you have Musician Plus you just need to change the artist name for a release and your second artist will be created.
