I got my first solar this past Wednesday. I cried pretty hard because I always wanted it and took me 3 years to get because of school and work etc.. I never been so happy in my life. Its everything I wanted in a guitar and have been watching Ola's TH-cam vids since he started. I could never part ways with it. Such an emotional value it has for me. Love your vids!
Dude same, also had to go through school and work to finally get a Solar after gazing over them since it was released and was blown away by it. It's just an absolute beast of a guitar. A second Solar is coming my way in a couple of days :D
Great comparison, love the cinematic B roll edit in the intro, great composition, love the panning synth! Also the lighting in your videos is always beyond sick!
I just bought a Solar A1.7 FB and love it. My first 7 string and first Evertune. I now wish all my fixed bridge guitars had Evertune including my strat, LP, and PRS. The neck finish is fast! It has a place in my collection.
I'm not good at describing tones but I would say the mayones has more depth. There's just more sustenance there. Both are great sounding guitars I think just different vibes going on
I think the specs of solar guitars are pretty hard to beat at their price point, at least until brands like esp/ltd and jackson start putting ss frets on their $800-1000 guitars. Just wanted to say your studio decor is awesome man.
Hmm more like comparing a base model Camaro or something to your choice of supercar. I had a Solar that was great but my Mayones/Aristides/PRS are a level up in price and everything. Even unplugged the sound is way way more musical
More like comparing à good sport car without any options and a fully equipped deluxe car. I really love my Solar, but it ain't perfect. Finish is cheap and solar tuners are just ok, but pickups are fine for my taste. The thing is, for that price, it might be a better option than many brands.
@@guillaumeaudet3139 agreed. I think the base model solars are the best under 1000 eu or usd but the more premium ones are knocking on Kiesel and ESP E-II prices.

Does your mayones have the preamp built into it as well? I've seen where mayones has something like that built into their guitars. Don't know if it's an option or standard
I completely agree with you, when an instrument has an emotional weight the price has no value and you don't get rid of it. In my case, I returned a solar even though I loved the guitar because there was only that model with Evertune and it doesn't suit my needs, a shame ... that's why I bought an LTD Deluxe M-1000 HT and I doubt that I will get it later another solar, great video Abel and that you continue making these types of videos, they are of great help!🤟
So everyone is talking about how they sound. But in my opinion you should talk about how they feel to play. I must say that i never had a Solar guitar in my hands so i can nothing say about it. But lets give an example. I got an epiphone and a gibson traditional at home. Between both of them are a hughe difference in the building quality. The way the neck feels on the gibson is incredible while the epiphone is kinda ruff. the edges of the fretts are sharper and overall its a diffrent feeling. A few month ago i saved money to buy another gibson cause i am really a big fan. i aimed for an tribute, so i went to my local music store and played them. In my opinion it felt so bad that even a mid priced epiphone felt better. Than they gave me an Prs CE and i freakin felt in love with it.. So the best advice i can give you is ... go to youre local guitar store and play some guitars. Maybe dont aim on a model. Just grab that what feels right for you. I got a Gibson PRS Mayones all in the high priced range and they are awesome but i also got an epiphone ibanez and an ltd, just because they felt right to me ^^. Everyone got a diffrent taste.
The Mayones sounded so much better. we can definitely hear the price tag difference here. However, I ain't sure if the passive setting of the Solar comes out as best. I prefered the active tone of your other video a lot more. Thanks for making this ! Great axes.
Solar humbuckers is the biggest turn off to me. I mean they sound good i quess, but it's boring that all the Solar guitars have them. Some have that active Fishmans, but 90% are with Solar humbuckers.
Technically the Solar has a neckthrough, but the cavity for the ET is so big its really not a neck through any more but a set through imo. They simply removed a big chunk of the neck to get room for the ET.
I wasn't expecting the Mayones to be that good compare to the solar. To me it's a clear winner. Sound is think, clear, sustain... wow! Good demo by the way!
I know what you mean man. I’ve been a Jackson guy my whole life but been a huge fan of Ola for years. I wanted one of his signatures when he was with Washburn but never jumped on it. Became super stoked when he started Solar but could never justify it (I hate spending money on myself and will think of any reason to not do it). Finally pulled myself to buy one this past summer for my birthday and man am I a huge fan. I prefer the neck profile on my Jackson’s ever so slightly (shape/thin-ness, and width is slightly smaller too). But other than that small critique, which doesn’t bother me, I love every bit of that guitar. I’m constantly looking at the website thinking of which one will I get next. And it kills me that he’s been releasing new models every Friday for the majority of the year too.
Thanx for the comparison! The attack on the Solar sounds a lot softer than on the Mayones, especially on the clean tones. Is this caused by the different pickups or a side effect of the Evertune floating tension system? What do you think?
I feel like the Mayones sounds fuller, almost like the Solar has a slight blanket over it. Also why did you not use voice 1? The Abasi set has a lovely low mid tone on voice 1. The Fishman's are known for their in your face clarity so I'm wondering if it's the evertune or the guitar itself causing that. Regardless, they both sound good, I think it's just preference.
having the european ash top on the mayones should not be a cost factor ... ash is DIRT CHEAP in europe - I can get a 1" thick plank 8"wide and 8ft long for around 16euros !!!! ... the price of the burl veneer on the solar is probably the same price as the thick ash drop top!!! ... it would be a factor in cost if it were a highly figured drop top like a 5A master grade quilt / flame maple but NOT ash !!!! .. that ash drop top is worth like 2 euros of material !! ... the purple heart and wenge is a bit more expensive than the maple on the solar
So much of these comparisons come down to pickups, which makes them pretty pointless. Someone should solve all of this by passing a law making it illegal to sell guitars with pickups installed :-) Make guitarists choose their own bloody pickups. And make reviewers compare guitars with same pickups!! By far the more important thing about the guitar is how does it play, after its been properly setup. Anyway, i've been looking at the Solar guitars, as they look great, and reviews say they feel really good. But the thing that just blew my mind is... the controls. They are all over the place. Some (like yours) have a tone and volume control. Others have just a volume control, other have just a tone control (no bloody volume knob, what the fuck??). AND it is really deceptive. Many models have 2 knobs - but when you look at the specs, they say ONLY tone control, or ONLY volume control. So i can only assume that a 2-knob guitar that is ONLY tone control, is 1 tone knob for neck pickup, 1 tone knob for bridge pickup, and NO effing knob for volume control!!!! What effing use is a guitar that has no volume or no tone control FFS. Blows my mind. If it doesn't have volume AND tone control it might as well go in the bin. Just bloody stupid.
Having said all that though, the bass on the solar pickups does sound loose, almost like it has a delay, it seems to lag behind the mids & highs like its out of phase. Mayones seems way tighter.
But having said that though... at the price point of the Solar, it is no surprise there is room to improve some components. And if they were going to leave room for improvement, on one component, it SHOULD be the pickups, because that SHOULD be the personal choice of guitarist. Bang some top-notch pickups in the Solar, and it looks like it will be a superb guitar, right up there with the Mayones in sound. So if it feels as good as the Mayones, and all it takes is new pickups, to match it, that is a great achievement by Solar guitar guys. Just wish they would sort out their bloody volume & tone knobs!
Actually i also wish they would offer their top of the range 1 series guitars with mahogany bodies. All the 1 series seem to be alder, with some swamp ash, you have to drop to 2 series, to get mahogany, but the 2 series tend to NOT come with the Evertune bridges, they're all Floyd Rose, or Hipshot, and nickel frets instead of stainless steel.
