New follower here and love your channel. Turning 60 in January, I'm a divorced woman with 3 grown children, I'm a bodybuilder, a registered nurse and have decentered men from my life in the past year, best decision I ever made. Love my home, rarely wear makeup, got a short pixie cut so I could transition to gray and love it! I feel like my life is more full now than ever. Currently training to be a forensic nurse to help secure evidence in s*xual assault victims. Life is not over when your older!

Love your comment. I'm 75, single, currently with limited means, but healthy and am more content at this time of my life than I can remember being before. I had a best friend of many years who I finally had to part ways with because she wasn't curious about anything; not new foods, new places to visit, new books or movies and told me she didn't want to learn anything new for the rest of her life. I was shocked but realised that we no longer had anything in common. I enjoy my own company, finally learning about geography, reading good books, learning how to cook Southwestern cuisine, revisiting the keyboard that I played as a child and writing my first book. I have good friends and give and receive love every day, even if it's simply enjoying my foster cat, spoiling my garden, or chatting with folks at the store or the laundromat. Life is good...and I am cherishing these "golden years".

I just happened upon your channel. I’m 70 now and I’ve been married 41 years. I retired at 60. I am not as physical as I’d like to be because of a severe back injury, but I’m vibrant and very active within my limits. I love being alone, so I visit the ocean for one week a month. I have been very active in politics, painting rocks and sending them all over the country for people that want them. I make greeting cards and send them everywhere. I’m so artistic and creative. I play Bunco once a month, go to art classes, enjoy concerts and movies. I also love being at home. I think that much of the joy in aging is derived from doing what you love, feeling like you are making a difference in the world. I also have a friend that has given up, but she seems to prefer her way. She even stopped grocery shopping during Covid and still has everything delivered. I hate to say it, but she bores me…but she needs my friendship much more than I need hers. It has been a struggle to cut down our meetings and I think she punishes me for that with passive aggressive comments about my life. You are stating ideas that blend more with mine. I love people but need solitude too. If my husband was gone I would date for sure. Maybe not marry, but date if the man was a good blend. If not…no thanks. Im secure in myself now. I’m kind and interesting. I have lots of friends. I also have a puppy…I assume that I’ll live long enough to have her to the end of my life, but I share her with my daughter so that she has a secure home if I don’t live long enough. I don’t love everything about my life, but I think that I am very lucky to have this life. I’m happy for the most part. I would not trade with anyone I know.

Really enjoyed your message. I recently ran across another video that talked about the Travesia Cien, this means the journey to 100. I feel so inspired by this concept and definitely consider myself on this journey. Aging as an opportunity not a problem or excuse. Fortunately I am a life long exerciser which is a huge key and really has paid off. Now at 70, I have so many activities. Yoga is foundational. When Covid happened I began to study Qigong and TaiChi sill do both. Amazing and highly recommend. My list is long. After a knee setback I took up lap swimming at 68 . So grateful for every opportunity, and every day that I have. Best wishes to all on the Travesia Cien❤️

Thank you for raising this. Here in the UK, the retirement age recently changed to 66yrs after decades of being set at 60yrs for women. It was a major culture shock for obvious reasons, in particular, having a huge impact on employment issues. The 'ageist' culture in this country had to crack wide open, especially for women where stereotypically, she was expected to take life easy as the 'granny' and 'old-age pensioner' - there was massive resistance from many women....yet now, motivated or not, we are working well into their sixties... as I did until 67 yrs. So having recently retired... feel it's not only transitional, but an opportunity to explore what makes me happy and discover new paths for the way forward, having similar views to yourself about ageing....and most importantly... 'becoming me'. However, I still receive the odd ageist comment or supposedly funny meme, especially from older friends, depicting 'the old granny' ...maybe since I let my hair go silver?

I'm 67, single, retired, hiking with my beloved dog regularly, going on multiple road-trip vacations every year, not pursuing men, and having the time of my life. Do I dress more casually now? Yes, it was a relief to leave corporate attire behind. Do I wear makeup now? No, it is liberating not to wear it. I wouldn't characterize casual attire and no-makeup as "not caring anymore." These things don't fit my casual, active, outdoor lifestyle.

My second husband passed away last summer at 86. I am about nine years younger. We met in our 50s and fell in love after I had been widowed. We had a wonderful few years having adventures and were very close.. He began to have health problems and that continued for probably the last 24 years. The challenge was just what you were discussing about people relishing being old and seeing themselves that way, and then extending it to you. He would say” it won’t be long now.” Which was kind of cute for a while, but it became “ we are just too old people.” And when you think of yourself and your partner that way romance goes out the window. I’ve been missing him terribly, but this conversation of yours brought back that issue which really damaged our relationship. Maybe there was a
way I could’ve dealt with it?

None of us know how long we are going to live. Life is too short to just give up. I think you can have a full life at any age. Even if you don't have a partner. Life is not necessarily better with a partner. I think there are. a lot of unhappy couples out there that put on a facade. You have so much freedom being single. Enjoy life as long as you can. You don't know how long you have on this earth. Embrace everyday. It does irritate me when people put me in the old lady category because I don''t feel that way about myself. I'm 57.

You hopefully have many years ahead of you and don’t you want to be the best you can be both physically and mentally? Life doesn’t stop at 55+. I walk my dog 2x a day, lift weights and spin bike almost every day. Reading, refinishing furniture, doing my own home repair, knitting, many more hobbies. Had a knee replacement this Feb. but it didn’t stop me. I’m in the best shape of my life right now and plan on staying at it until my last breath! Oh and I’m 61 years young.

I think good health, both physical and mental, is essential to how people rate their quality of life and aging. I'm 64, I do daily activities like long walks, and in nice weather I bike and golf. I was a consistent gym-goer from my 30s through 50s and managed my weight and diet, but had a lot of stress at work and in my marriage. A couple life-threatening illnesses in my late-50s changed me. In 2020 I retired, last year I filed for divorce from my covert narcissistic wife of 28 years, and she's dragging it out. My life hasn't been easy, but I am still optimistic and hope things will be better someday. What's concerning me now is that I'm seeing many friends and relatives suddenly develop chronic health issues following Covid infections. One died of the acute infection, but others developed aggressive cancers, heart disease, diabetes, brain-fog, insomnia, digestive issues, and it changed them mentally, too. Some are now full throttle YOLO-ers, while others became more introspective. Almost all show signs of anxiety and depression. Some think Covid is just a cold, but my recommendation for aging happily is to avoid Covid like the plague that it is.

It kind of depends on your health, mental and physical, not so much age. Some people age healthy and well, some don't. Some things you just can't do anymore due to health reasons, for example, most people after age 40 or 50 can't stay up very late, go to clubs and travel to places where you need to walk or climb a lot. Career can also be a problem, I am software developer which should not have an age limit but most companies want young people. If you write your age on cv, likely you will not be called back. Dating can also be a challenge as the older people get the less people their own age are single and available. And being a woman, I noticed a lot of men my age feel entitled to young women, even if those men are not in great shape, rich or look particularly good.
It is what it is. It's not impossible, we just have some limitations.

I have a co-worker that constantly makes comments on her age (she’s in her early 60’s) about how she can’t believe she’s the age she is and makes comments about how people her age should be & act…it’s very obvious she is insecure about her age. I also have watched my mom struggle with her health and I promised myself I will do the best I can. I walk and started weight lighting last Jan. I am 51 & enjoy your video’s !

You are right on with the age as an excuse. Good video and I agree with your analysis. Stay active and busy at doing something and learn something continuously. Life is not over until they put you in the ground. I like variety and always find something new to take on all the time. Life is a never-ending adventure and it just keeps getting better. Stay active, stay limber, and keep doing what you love. It does not have to be the same thing every day or every month. Mix it up and keep it fresh and new and find new interests when it gets old or boring. Not yet under the bus and probably never will be. It does not have to cost money, just your time so go for it.

What is a sigma male? I get how not working can free one to live a better life, a life closer to how one wants to live. I'm a 75-year-old woman who moved back to Hawaii after being gone for 40 years, when I lived off-grid before very many people were doing so. I'm not off-grid now, but live in a rural area where I haul my own trash, drinking water, propane tanks, and cleared a lot of the property I live on of rocks and weeds to grow food and flowers. I lost 35 pounds and swear I'm stronger than I've ever been in my life. I am definitely more content, though it is a lifestyle that a lot of people would not be happy with. Enjoy!

I love this. I’m nowhere near my 60’s ( yet I hope I get there) but I love working on farms and walking a lot/ breathing in fresh air. Stretching everyday, jump roping, writing, reading, exploring nature. I love trying new things but is hard because the person I am with he is way more stagnant in life and turns to alcohol to have fun. 😢 It’s very annoying. So, I told myself I’m not letting anyone steal my sunshine because they choose to live in the dark. I like the dark but only when I’m sleeping 😂. It’s time to live life. I want to live like I’m dying which makes me psychologically free. Health is Wealth and I’m off to say good new day to this new sun.
I don’t understand how some humans can just not do anything new.

I was living alone and happy it was a friend who encouraged me try it and see how it goes. So at least I tried it and did learn it wasnt for me. Guilty here....of using my age as an excuse to live my best life. Thank you for this reflective video on aging happily and with grace. I wish i didn't know my age (61), then I wouldn't have it to compare things to. I used age and goals simultaneously and all that did was lead to depression and anxiety if i didn't measure up to where i thought i was "supposed" to be - whether 25, 30(severe depression...felt like i was turning 60 then..haha), 40, 50, 60. I will say channels like yours and youtube have been very helpful. Thank you! I also get annoyed with being grouped in the "old lady club". I believe in trying to look your best even if just for yourself and feel judged at times for caring. Hence, my friend circle is small. I appreciate you!❤

New follower here too. Just turned 67 in the last part of September a couple of months ago.
My hair's been going gray for a couple of years now and I LIKE it. Every hair on my head and face that turns gray serves as a statement that you don't have actually BE old.
I've been gifted with 'young' genes it would seem. Everybody in my family (both sides) seems to die at the age of 89 (although my father died just after 88) so I've got a way to go.
I hold every year that I live as a badge of honor . . . because I made it this far. Lord only knows why, but I have.
I married -into- dadhood and even though I haven't had a wife for many years I've retained my dad status and now have 5 (step)grandchildren who are now mostly grown if not indeed fully grown.
    Life could not be better!
I should also add that I am -not- "playing the field."

That last couple of minutes...you are so right! What keeps us alive and enjoying life are our passions. Things that we focus on that give us pleasure and happiness - hobbies, fitness, church, skydiving, music, movies, pets, volunteering, learning new things - whatever it is that fills your soul and keeps you focused, keeps you alive and happy. Once you lose your passions, you're done. Personally, I have so many things I'm passionate about that I'll never be able to indulge them all, and I've probably got 25 good years left (knock on wood!). I'm as happy at (almost) 60 as I've ever been, because I have so many fascinating life experiences ahead of me.

Its is inevitable you accelerate your age if you eat or drink thoughtlessly? If you do not exercise. If you do not give your body proper rest. You are right about some people losing that zest for life . . . in so many words.
Fun is a great goal for anyone!
And, you can create your own fun for not so much money.
Trips to theme parks, ocean liner cruises, or resorts may be out of your reach but then again why allow some business to convince you that they have a monopoly on where it's at?
One can be very creative on a minimal budget and have loads of fun and excitement.
Giving up on life or feeling sorry for one's self just because they are older is a bring down not only to themselves but to others who may be around them.
At the end of the day it's just better to smile and look forward to see what happens next!

I play hockey with a 68 year old goalie....he is a physician and said he loves his job and loves playing goalie. So he said why quit either. Honestly, when i saw him in the locker room for the first time, i asked another guy if he can get back up when he goes down. He just laughed, when i skated out for warm ups i was shocked at his mobility and skillset. My bad....he never stopped playing and plays year round. Its all in your head..stay in motion

I laughed out loud when you said to never sell on Ebay. I sell on Ebay...every day. Yeah, it's got it's challenges for sure. One could write a book purely based on the trials and tribulations of selling on Ebay. Don't give up on Ebay. We all need challenges in life just like you said. :) Your channel will grow and probably have a million subscribers before you know it. Congrats.

Thank you, I sold clothing on Ebay and I just think it's a very difficult niche.

You are 100% right I run into people like that all the time that think they’re old and they really aren’t. I like watching you or I like watching your show.

Love your videos! After watching a few of them, I finally realized who you look like...Jackie Kennedy! You are gorgeous!
I feel the same way about people who are constantly talking about how old they are - and, as you say, throw me under that old bus as well. I am 61, healthy, vibrant and I rarely think about my age.

I'm 66 and just built myself a new house out on a Lake.
Very remote, and tranquil being just North of EastPort Montana on the Canadian side 25 minutes from the cloest City of 20,000..... after Sept long weekend once the tourists all go home it's amazing !
Problem being, can't 'date' or bring a woman here for dinner... because.... well... they never wanna leave ? LOL

I'm 67 and live -- year-round -- on Lake Pend Oreille in North Idaho. Now that I'm retired, I go on multiple solo road-trip vacations every year. This year, I went to Grand Teton, Yellowstone and Glacier national parks; McCall, Idaho; and Whitefish, Mont. I love Montana. My family's roots are in Polson and Ronan.

I agree with this 1000%! It's one story if someone has depression or is, God forbid, ill, or whatever, but then this needs to be dealt with..whatever it is. Because aging, I mean life itself, including how we deal with everything, with hardships - and with aging - is a mindset! And I share your way of thinking about it in that I too am not ready to be put under "the old lady bus", hehe. I always have goals, aspirations, plans.. You need something to look forward to, to get excited about! That may look different for everyone - and I can also say that, after more than half a century on the planet, I've come to greatly appreciate the little things.. But as the cliche says: "it isn't over 'til the fat lady sings." That's bang on! Life IS a gift, and it's also for a reason, which is, as I believe, to learn what we need to, what's important and what's not.. I have to say, for me (unfortunately) due to abusive relationships with narcissistic men (who were also heavy porn addicts), I'm through with dating, for my own sanity.. Wish it wasn't that way, but I just can't do it anymore..(Porn is an epademic, and it's only getting worse, and they hide it or lie...women married for decades before finding out..). But I won't let THAT stop me, either; I will be nurturing friendships, getting involved in more and more hobbies and activities as I get older.. So long as I am alive, I will LIVE. Love your channel :)
