Here’s my experience with the injections:
The first time I got an ingrown toenail removal, it was on one toe at a basic medical clinic. The doctors their were not podiatrists/foot specialists. The pain from the injection, for me anyways, was worse than the shot they give you at the dentist when they remove teeth. The pain was excruciating as they likely just used a standard needle and no cold spray or other numbing agent.
The second time I got the procedure done, it was on both toenails and it was done at a podiatrist. I was traumatized by the previous removal, but my podiatrist did everything he could to minimize my pain. He used cold spray and a much smaller needle. And, the injection pain was SIGNIFICANTLY less painful than when I got it done at the clinic. Don’t get me wrong, when he injected into the side of my toes it still stung quiet a bit, but it was far less painful than the first time.
So, odds are that if you are getting the toenail removal done at a medical clinic or standard doctors office wwithout a special podiatrist, the needle will fucking hurt. But, if you are getting done at a podiatrist, they should be better at minimizing the pain.

When I was 11 I my first experience was like your first, but there was also alot of shock added to it due the fact that I was told it'd hurt like a mosquito bite. I was offered candy but I felt so sick I rejected it.
It's the reason I have a phobia of needles now and shiver when I think of them.

You don't have to be a Doctor nor specialist to perform an IGT (Ingrown Toe-Nail) removal. You already mentioned it, the needle size is the determing factor of pain level. I do them all the time and I'm a Navy Medic.

Kaydn Burns I agree with you! The injection pain is excruciating and I tolerate pain very well. I had a procedure on both big toes years ago to kill the sides of the nail so I don’t get any more ingrown toenails. Sometimes a spike will grow back and I’m able to take it out myself. Last night, I wasn’t able to get it out so I went to urgent care. I had to have the injections I’d never think I’d need again. OUCH. It was bad, especially the third one. It stung like hell.

Listen, I was worried to the point of almost throwing up about the needle. This is the most realistic review you will read. After numbing, you can't feel a thing. But what I was worried about (guessing you do too) was the needle. I got 3 in each toe (I had 2), and it was very tolerable. I read horror stories in the comment section on many videos like this one, they aren't true at all. On a scale of 1-10 the ingrown pain was a 4, the needle was a 0.5, and the actual surgery was 0. It took my docter 1 minute to do both toes and after the first shot you can't feel the others. The doctors tell you it hurts more than it really does. On my second toe, I didn't even know he had done 2 of the shots. I repeat, it was fast, and didn't hurt. Don't look at the needle, it's big and looks like it hurts a lot more than it does. But really the needles don't hurt but they aren't comfortable. I would rather get these needles instead of tripping. Trippy doesn't hurt that bad unless you break something. I would compare it to when you hit your funny bone, it's no worse or better, not painful, but uncomfortable.

i had my toenail removed twice and i have a HUGE fear of needles. the first time i had an ingrown toenail, and i was petrified. they put a numbing spray on the foot (which was REALLY cold) and waited about 15 seconds before hitting three shots in my toe. the first two did sting, but the third one hurt the worst. it only hurt because it was where you bend your toe. they have to hold it for 10 seconds and after that you literally couldn’t feel anything. i watched them remove my nail and i couldnt feel anything.
the second time, my toenail stopped growing out and started growing in, causing an infection. i went back to the same person who did my first one and i was a lot calmer than the first. although i was ( and still am ) petrified of needles, i knew what i was expecting. just like the first time, first two wasn’t that bad, second one did cause pain.
out of 10, id rate the shots a 5 out of 10 on pain.
just remember to breathe, i always seem to forget to because i hold my breath, awaiting the pain. you can also close your eyes and cover ur ears, or listen to music. the process is quick, and the shots do sting.
    thats all.

HEY GUYS . LISTEN TO ME AND NO OTHER PERSON
I was definitely more scared than you are in this position .
When I found out I needed this I watched videos and felt sick to my stomach . Thinking I wouldn’t survive lol.
I also read so much negative and positive reviews and the only thing I was thinking of is the negative .
Now, u still don’t know how to feel about this , eh ?
I just got it done an hour ago .
Now let me tell you . The worst part is the needles . If you are okay with needles , it shouldn’t be so bad. For some reason my toe wasn’t feeling numb so I got like 6 shots on my main toe and 4 on my index ( because both main toe and index were ingrown ). Now I’m not gonna lie to you , the needles hurt a little .
The rest is a lot of pressure like someone pressing on your toe and some parts did sting a little .
    Guess what now ?
    I feel like a million bucks .
I was very hesitant about this . I waited 6 months to do it because I was so scared .
But All it is, is a 10 minute thing and you will be very happy after .
I don’t like saying goodluck for some reason cuz it gets me kinda scared when someone says it to me so yeah. Just get it done

I cried after they did my first toe (although I wonder how much of that was a release of tension built up in anticipation of it happening), it really stings and the fact that they have to leave it in for a few seconds after each application only added to it. Fortunately it's over very quickly (each toe took about 1 minute) and once it's taken effect it's weird to prod your toe and it feel like your prodding it through 10 layers of socks. I'd much rather have a few injections though, than not have them and have to feel the actual surgery!!

  • @Catherine.24
    @Catherine.24 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

I’ve had three ingrown toenail surgeries and I’ll be honest… for me the injections hurt like hell. The needle wasn’t the problem for me. It was the medicine going in my toe. I have the tiniest toes so when she was injecting the fluid, it had no where to go. So it was a very intense and painful feeling for me. But just by reading the comments it seems like everyone’s different. Sadly I’m just unlucky.

The injections are not that bad. I walked around with ingrown toenails for almost 2 years (I have a needle phobia). I heard a lot of horror stories which avoid me to do the surgery. I am a 27 year old male and felt like a 4 year old boy in the chair with my doctor. It took for about 10 minutes of doubting when i let my doctor give me the injections. I was hyperventilating like crazy and than after 10-15 secondes I realized that I did not feel a thing. The only thing I felt was the shot (no pain), perhaps and a scale from 1 to 10 probably 1. The injections (one of each side) took about 30-40 secondes in total. The surgery itself is painless, of course. I some causes you need another shot, but that really doesn't hurt because your toe is already numbed quite well. After the surgery I was so relieved, not just because of my toe was fixed but also because that thing I was worries for almost 2 years was not bad at all.
I probably need to see my doctor soon to fix my other toe, now I am not scared at all because I know what it is. I think the horror stories come from people who are young and haven't experienced real pain in their lives. Another thing it might be painfuller than it really is, is when you look at it. (let's be honest, the injections in your toe and the surgery are not that nice to see). When you see it, you probably feel pain, while that pain isn't there.

You can tell when they say, "omg lmao it hurt so bad I was crying so hard the needle hurt soooo bad and I can't even walk rn lmao" .... these are kids. You are a grown man, based on your screen handle. You probably had an old doctor who no longer gave a crap about his patients and was tired of hearing people complain. The day of the week and time of day you choose to book your appt can matter too. Get them in the morning after that just got up half an hour prior and had a bad drive to work, and they're not going to care if they hurt you. Get them after lunch when they're calm and well fed and not so exhausted, and they may care more about your level of pain, or using good techniques. Get them at the last appointment of the day when they've dealt with bs all day, and just want to go home and have a beer, and ... you get the point. I think all this stuff matters. Women too, may be more sensitive to your pain level and be more careful, whereas as a man, if you've got a rugged, tough image and hefty frame (instead of a dainty woman who is frail and thin,) another man might think you'll just "tough it out."

I️ really recommend someone who is afraid or wants to know what happens when you get the procedure to read this. I️ didn’t get the procedure done by this company. In fact I️ got it done by a local hospital or clinic, whatever you want to call it. Anyway they don’t specialize in ingrown toenails but instead a lot more. So when I️ got the shots (there should be three) it barely hurt at all. I️ do not recommend looking at the needle at all because it could make it seem like it hurts more. The next few shots hurt less because your toe is already numb. Honestly the doctors stuck the needle in and it pinched, it hurt for two seconds, and then stopped. Afterwards the doctor began removing the ingrown part of my toenail and it hurt. So she gave me another shot which I️ barely felt because my toe was already so numb. I️ really recommend this procedure because the little pain it causes takes away all the other worse pain.

Ngl I had my second toe done yesterday and it hurt really bad. It’s always the outside injection, the one that’s closer to the bone that gets me. The good news is, the anaesthetic kicks in really quick, so after about 10/15 seconds you can’t feel anything

Update: I have no idea how people are saying this is the worst pain they ever felt. For me, The injection felt like nothing I felt it poking but it was just like something poking your skin, not like it was actually going into my skin. Also I didn’t watch it happen and I think that helped but there were like 4 or 5 lil injections on the bottom side towards the base of my toe so it was fine. However I could still feel a little pain during the procedure but it was not unbearable at all and even tho it is numb I still feel a little burning sensation now like 30 min after idk if that’s normal tho but overall I stressed myself out for nothing and if you don’t want to go because you are scared it will hurt just go you will feel so much better!

@@actiniumanarchy9237 the needles were pretty painful, not going to lie. I started blacking out during the needles. I have a tendency to pass out when I’m in pain and nervous at the same time but if you don’t, you’re good. I would say that the trick is to stay as calm as possible and lie down if your doctor will let you. If you have any methods to stay calm, see you if can try those. Also, when you’re nervous, the anesthesia doesn’t work as effectively. I’m 5’2 and around 47kg and it took 12 shots in total. So my advice is to stay calm and all will be good. Also, drink water! The recovery isn’t too bad but make sure to stay off your feet for a while. I made the mistake of going somewhere that required a lot of walking and it hurt. I’d say about 2 weeks of low activity levels after the surgery is good. Also, be vigilant about cleaning your wounds.

Most give four injections, two on each side, but my doctor has found that if it is done correctly, one shot on each side is all that is necessary to achieve the digital block. I could not feel the actual toenail removal at all, so two injections rather than four was fine.

    2nd one was less painful
    On the left foot
3rd one was sort of botched so they had to do the 4th injection and then come back to it (so I guess technically I got 5)
4th was really painful for some reason but each time it lasted less than 10 seconds

Doesn't hurt at all, people are overreacting.

Crosby good for you. Some people have low pain tolerance. Don’t be judgmental and say that they are overreacting 🙄

I had to get glass removed from my foot today and had to get a numbing shot. It was the most painful think ever expected from a shot. It burned so bad, i would rather put my toe in fire next time.
