An unexpected moment of musical heaven. Two of the greatest ever British vocalists (and songwriters) singing one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

Definitely one of the loveliest ballads of the entire British Invasion!
And another wonderful cover by my all-time favorite artist--Elvis of course and nice to see Squeeze and Brinsley Schwarz represented too! Fantastisch!

Brings back some awesome memories - I took my friend Ruth to a Costello concert on her 18th birthday in 1982 in London. Difford and Tillbrook were at the back of the hall and I went and spoke to them. Later fate had us sneak into the back stage do because the roadie thought Ruth was someone else and we spent the night in the company of Elvis, Chris, Glenn, Pete, Bruce and Steve (and one very friendly roadie). At the end of the evening Chris gave me his phone number and said we had to come to the concert in Brighton a few weeks later - he'd pick us up from the station if we called him when we arrived. He had just bought a new house there and we could stay over night, they'd get us into the concert on a pass and as he put it 'everyone was coming to the party afterwards' at his place. We were so thrilled and when we got home we checked out the date with horror as it was the night before Ruth's English A'level and my Maths A'level - two years of study verses the party of our lives! We were just too embarrassed to say that we were too nerdy to come as our A'levels came first to ring up and say thanks so much but we can't make it! Often wondered what I missed for the sake of my university - but what amazing guys the lot of them and Chris Difford - superstar!!!! Thanks for posting so I can see them together again.

@shb.hockey7555 What a ‘bloody’ amazing story. I’m in the US. so I still don’t know about A and O levels but we had (in NY State anyway) Regents exams in all subjects-Math, English, Biology, Foreign Language etc. but History was a killer coz it covered all 3 years of High School History so Idk what I wdve. done in a similar situ.

Hi Jeff, we do A'levels at 18 (usually in 3 subjects) as prep and entry to university. Around 8 months later I nearly relived the party I had missed. I got tickets to a New Year's concert in Birmingham. Costello was headline, then Rockpile (Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds) and the third band had just had their first hit UB40. I had gotten a ticket for a 14 year old lad who was a mad Costello fan and who could only go to gigs with an older chaperone. As we approached new years, the promoters added Squeeze, the 2-tone band Selector and then the night before Madness were added. All for a £3.50(about $5 in those days) ticket price. Because I had gotten the tickets early Alex and I were practically front row. As the evening started we learned the John Cooper-Clark had been recruited to compare between the acts as they set up the stage for the next band. The gig was totally out of this world but it stepped up a notch when Madness came on. Suggys walked to the front of the stage as he came on and brought both hands up from his sides in a "get up" kind of action. The audience had been seated through Rockpile, but at this 20,000 people were standing on their seats. I left my seat and Alex and I went right down the front, the stadium was sectioned off and hence only people from our area could hmget there and so I wasn't of around 20 people pressed up against the front of the stage for the rest of the concert which ran on way past its 11pm intended finish time. And so at 1:15 am as Elvis rounded off the set we found ourselves furthest from the exit right at the stage. We took our time walking out, as there was little point and as we passed the sound desk (which was in our zone at the front) I recognized Suggs listening to the playback of his set. We stopped and I Alex him to sign my program. He was just as cool as Chris Difford and as we were like the last people in the stadium ne suggested that we come back stage with him where the bands were celebrating new year. This time I had to consider how I was going to get Alex home the 50 miles when our only transport (as all the trains had finished for the night) was my dad who had no doubt been waiting for the past 2 and a half hours outside for the overdue concert to finish. This time I did get to say thanks for the invite and a big sorry. Nevertheless it was yet another great party missed!
