Elvis Costello; one of those artists who make you proud to be British. A class, class act and a proper musician. Love Lucinda Williams too - such a beautiful vulnerability to her lyrics and voice.
+LennyJohnson5 I just have to say: Some, a lot, so many in fact, British singers have the most outstanding voices. You have every reason to be proud. I would say the best in the world maybe.
LennyJohnson5 Lucinda makes me more than proud to be a POM. Let's unite; not fight. After all, humanity us binary: man, woman. And we're all strugglin'

This version of one of the handful of very best Jagger/Richards songs may be the best, if only because of these two greats brought together. But I encourage everyone to hear the first released version. 'Wild Horses' never could have come to fruition without Keith's time with Gram Parsons, and The Flying Burrito Brothers version, with Gram and Chris Hillman singing, is a masterpiece. It is on TH-cam.
@@landonsings8523 When this issue was addressed to Gram , didn’t he say something to the effect that he was flattered that the Stones would claim it as theirs. Forgive me , Stone’s fans, but it sounds just like Gram to me , not The Rolling Stones.
@jumpinjack889 How do you know for sure ? I don’t think we will ever know for sure or for certain. Do you have some documentation ? I don’t because there isn’t any.
@jumpinjack889I am very familiar with Gram Parsons entire body of work, Wild Horses sounds EXACTLY like a Gram Parsons tune, whereas it doesn’t sound like anything else the Stones have written. I believe Kieth Richards stole the song from Gram during their time jamming together, or at the very most co-wrote the tune w/ Gram. That’s why when asked about it Gram was flattered that the Stones would want to record the song. Why would somebody who wasn’t at least a co-writer of the song say something like that? I guess we’ll never know since we can’t ask Gram, seeing that Richards was responsible for Gram’s heroin addiction, thus contributing to his early demise, RIP Gram..
Yeah love lucinda i love her west album..got me thru a tuff time, a friend of mine knew tht n we wnt seen her n lauderdale only thng she didnt play 1 song frm tht album
The people writing about versions of this missed the finest of them all.Gram Parsons...the Flying Burritos, absolutely by a country mile. Levi's is trying to sound like Gram here. One of his many idols.
I saw Lucinda tonight at the Portland Zoo Amphitheater. Great show. It got me to flopping around on u tube to find this gem. Fucking Elvis. What can't you do?
Wonderfull, Elvis smashes the original in this version. Too bad he didn't leave more space for Lucinda to shine but then again I wouldn't change a thing. Love it
I love this. Great cover. You know it is said by many that this song was actually written by Gram Parsons (Spelling ?) and he shared the song in a casual way (working on it) with The Stones and he was so complimented that they would use it that he didn’t care who got the credit.

The Flying Burrito Brothers version with Gram Parsons' vocals was released about a year before the Stones version. Gram absolutely owns this song but Elvis and Lucinda do a very nice job with this.
Yeah, That makes sense. Richards doesn't really seem like the type of guy that would take credit for someone else's work. Too bad Parson's passed so young. I'll bet he and Keith could have made some great music together. I've always felt that he (Parson's) really invented the country/rock genre.
Such a huge fan of Lucinda, I have this recording with Elvis Costello, he truly loves Gram Parsons version, I have Sleepless Nights by Costello too. So glad Mick and Keith brought this song, that Keith wrote on a horse ranch in South America to LA to share with Gram, as I recall, Gram’s version hit the airways first, followed by the Stones version. I can’t hear it without thinking of Gram and how crazy I was about him at 15 & still am 😢

Find a program segment on YT from " Spectacle" a musical/interview series produced in Vancouver B.C. by Elvis's wife Diana Krall & Sir Elton John's companion David Furnish (?) from about 12 yrs. ago(?). A very capable studio sessions band accompanies Sir Elton & Elvis performing the David Ackles composition " Down River". Very moving. The series itself was super interesting featuring numerous singer/songwriters of note and the interviews were great in revealing the performers' career pathway & motivations. Too bad the show couldn't be sustained for a longer time... gotta tour to pay the bills I guess. My 2 cents. {:-))

Costello has one of most authentic unfiltered voices ever. Lucinda the same.
He sounds really good too 🎸
in my head, i was trying to formulate the words that express THAT---and you did
They bring something different to this already perfect song and it makes me cry the way they do it - much love to Lucinda and Elvis and Thank You 🙏

Very nice version of this song. I'm a huge fan of Lucinda (I have ALL her CDs).

I'm happy to hear distinct echoes of Gram's version.
