    As I walk through
    This wicked world
Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity.
    I ask myself
    Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?
And each time I feel like this inside,
There's one thing I wanna know:
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding? Ohhhh
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?
    And as I walked on
    Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
    So where are the strong
    And who are the trusted?
    And where is the harmony?
    Sweet harmony.
'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry.
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding? Ohhhh

At 1:48 the guy doing the sound mix suddenly realizes 'Oh, there's Organ on this.." Costello does a preach which is kind of a nod to the Brinsley Schwarz version.

I Love Elvis Costello and this version of PL&U is a mind-blower. But for me, the original MTV version is #1. Just too many imbedded memories, all the girls, all the parties, all the best of ever times. As for this one on Letterman, Elvis blew off my left sock. He is amazing..

One of his greatest songs done with fire in live performance. Fun stuff. But not funny. Hey, I think he's playing the Fender Jazzmaster here, like only cool guys do. Tom Verlaine, are you listening?

@@tommyboyindy1157 the mark of a really good song (like this one) is that you can play it with any instrumentation. That said, the Brinsley Schwarz original had keys.th-cam.com/video/N72FnKOypk4/w-d-xo.html

hard to imagine! I love this song but I also love SLF. The first punk band I got to know, which made the rest of the punk bands a bit of a let-down in comparison. Ask me my favorite punk bands now and I'd say SLF, then, uhh. OK, Husker Du. then... Velvet Underground? Dream Syndicate?
