BTW Elizabeth and The Charismatic Voice crew. Kurk, can you ask if she would react 1 of these songs. Floor Jansen's cover Agape(Such a great song), Shudder before the Beautiful from Wembley 2015 or Nemo. Preferably Floor's version or then do double react Tarja's and bands concert from 2005 Helsinki or Floor's Wacken 2013 version. Also there are such a gems in Wembley 2015, Elizabeth should react to those. Good harmonies, little different music, new instruments and such.

"We met where the cliff greets the sea" is a direct reference to the song "Elan" from the previous album, with the line "Meet me where the cliff greets the sea." Also, the entire verse is written especially for Floor - meeting Hannes, "took the leap" of getting together with and marrying him, and "Now there's one who came from me/ A Child of Light, another tale" is their daughter Freja.
They do that in a lot of their songs, referencing lyrics from past songs or other songs from the same album. Best example I can think of right now is Alpenglow which references two other songs. The "We Were Here" is repeated in Greatest Show on Earth, and they also have a line "building a Walden of our own" referencing the song My Walden.

Tuomas is so sensitive and thoughtful of people he loves and that are in his life. This is a beautiful verse
I remember one article where Floor said that this song is special to her because "How's the heart?" is actually way more than "How are you?". When you are asking "How are you?" its actually is easy to say "Thanks i am fine". But by asking "How's the heart?" you actually go one step further as if you go past "Thanks i am fine" by saying "Ok i sense you are fine but... how is the heart?" - that's why its an ode to empathy, asking for how one REALLY feels

There's some mental issues he is battling right now, but also said he is ok and nothing to be worried about.

I have the impression that many people didn't get that Marko didn't just leave Nightwish to play somewhere else.
He announced that he left his public life to deal with his depression issues privately, but he also wrote that he's ok, he's not alone in this dark moment and he hinted that his "retirement" may not be definitive. Let's hope.
You're in for a real treat Elizabeth. No frills, no gimmicks, nothing to hide behind: just four microphones, a guitar and two voices. Tuomas wrote this song for Floor and her family (her daughter Freja and her husband Hannes) as a token of gratitude and appreciation for when she stepped in the middle of their 2012 tour (replacing Annette) and saved the tour itself (and the band).

Please check out Floor's "Shallow" from Beste Zangers... its a very stripped down acoustical take on the Lady Gaga song, Floor makes it her own though!! I've never been able to listen to the song without tearing up, Floor is such a powerful vocalist!!

But i will ask you something. Could you react the song "In Orbit" from Evergrey ft. Floor Jansen from 2016 the official clip? I found that song today, i dont't know it bevore but he's beautiful and i like them very much, and i'm sure you also will like it! Than you could do from Sirenia the songs "Dim Days of Dolor" and "Path to Decay", the official video clips. And than from Theatre of Tragedy the songs "Storm", "Siren" or "Tanz der Schatten" (Dance of shadows, i think). I'm really sure you will like every single one of that songs. But if you will do only one song of them than do "In Orbit" from Evergrey with Floor. If you have some time than look the other songs by yourself, i'm sure you like them all. And maybe we see some reactions about one or all of them somedays.

Toumas often uses transitional images.... where the cliff meets the sea.... on a shore... that sort of thing. They aren't literal per se, in my opinion, they are symbols of points where things change. That section is about Floor meeting her husband to be Hannes both at them in a pivotal point in their life where they were, perhaps unconsciously, looking for someone to share it with.

I would take a human (emotional) performance over any vocal pitch correction anytime regardless of how many mistakes are made.

Emotion has more of an impact within a song. For sure.
Are these mistakes? I don't say so. Breaking a note isn't done on the bugle. Unless it is, like in Taps where the last note always breaks.
@@crhu319 you're right. "Mistake" isn't the best choice of words. Whether someone might hit a note less than perfect (singing or playing an instrument) or they may be slightly out of time. The point I was trying to make is in most modern music there is use of auto tune and the music is placed perfectly on the grid (quantized). While this may create a "perfect" performance, it lacks feel and emotion. When you listen to recordings on tape (pre Pro-tools) it's not uncommon to leave in little nuances. Some of these concepts get abused to the point that the drummer might play a couple of bars in a recording and then it will get copy and pasted for the rest of the song. These concepts carry over to live performances by use of tracks.
Sure, some bands such as Nigntwish, use tracks to recreate the additional sounds of what was on the original recording beyond live instruments and vocals. What they don't do is replace what is being played on stage. Other bands don't use tracks and use touring musicians. Either way, let the performers do their thing, unaided. Something might end up off key or off beat. So what? We're all human.
@@crhu319 There are no mistakes in this song, there are few minor imperfections... But it makes for a better art, I would say. It is like seeing brush strokes on the painting, they are noticeable up close and with modern printers you can make the same picture without such distortions, but it loses its soul, for the lack of better words.
I would also say that the little imperfections in individual notes can make the song sound better over all, just like those brush strokes can add a depth to the image.

About the song; The part about "where the cliffs greet the sea/took the leap" & "Now there's one who came from me" are Tuomas's sweet nod to Floor meeting her future husband Sabaton drummer Hannes Van Dahl on a tour and the birth of their daughter, Freja. "Where cliffs greet the sea/took the leap" is also a callback to the song "Élan".
I always learn so much from your analyses. Thank you for doing what you do. Also, thank you for your supporting comments about mental health and helping each other. As you've been told below, Marko is taking some time off. We each have only so much energy to give life, and sometimes sharing and understanding make the difference.
Feel gutted about Marko. Feels like something bad happpened in my family or something. Makes no sense, I mean I never met the guy nor the rest of the band, but there you go. Hope he is or will be OK. Legend.
When Floor sings a note sharp or flat, it's intentional for emotional effect.
When Floor lets her Dutch accent through in English, it's intentional. Go back and listen to Ghost Love Score at "of the world". Now listen to Tarja sing it. With her too the (Finnish) accent was intentional. It sounds innocent and hopeful.
Classical chamber training uses emotional shading more than opera allows. And rock of course absolutely relies on it.
Yeah Tarja had really strong accent at times, but it was almost always intentional, she could make it disappear, but it just coloured the words the right way when she used it. It is similar with Floor and Marko, they use their accent to enhance the specific parts of the songs.

Troy was playing a lot way back in the Anette days, I wonder if there is an instrument he can't play. This guitar part was very clean.

My opinion of this song is, as per usual, the live version ( Troy and Floor only) is superior to the album version ( and the album version is fantastic). Welcome the the Nightwish law of increasing awesomeness.

The album version and live acoustic are almost two different songs which is crazy. Elizabeth will love this one though. The vocals are more prominent in my opinion.

Nightwish's Song of Myself has always been a powerful piece for me specifically. You should definitely check it out. Live is great, but the album version has so much more emotion to it.

I saw your question and being obsessive, had to watch again and do that. I got 12, and did not count the remarks between the initial end and replay of the last part as an interruptive stop.
Caveat, I have ADD and easily lose count of things, so it will be interesting to see if the party you responded to gets a different number.
BTW, I just want to say all the stops are worth it and welcome, it's your reaction and we love hearing your thoughts and seeing your beautifully expressive face respond to what you are observing.
Hi Elizabeth! I see all your Nightwish reactions and i like them all very much! For me you are the best Reactor here! Really! My english isn't the best but i understand 99% from all you say, and you don't stop every 30 seconds. 😉 I'm happy to see that you react "How's the Hearth", i'm sure you will like it! Floor did a very good job, like everytime. But it's to short, maybe the studio version first and than the acustic version? That would be great! An other song you should/could react is "My Walden" at Tampere from 2015, i'm sure you would like them to! And please do somedays the studio version from "Beauty OF the beast" ("OF" is importand because there is an other song who's name is "beauty AND the beast"), it's one of the best Nightwish songs! But Floor didn't sing that song, i don't know why because it's a ballad and one of the beautifulest Nightwish songs and i would love it hear Floor and Marco sing that song! He's to good not to react, a little bit like "Ghost Love Score" and i'm sure you would love it! But first time hearing you should do the studio version, but i also like the live version with Tarja from 2002 very much. See you in 13 h!

The second verse is actually a nice gesture from Tuomas to Floor, as it refers to how she met her husband.
I love this rendition and wish it were available as a download (although the album version is excellent too). Being a great admirer of Floor's voice, this stripped-back recording really does her talent justice as you can hear everything she is doing and she is doing it superbly.
It is slightly unfortunate to have this post going up the same day that Marko announces his decision to leave Nightwish. It is sad, and adds an extra dimension to this song's lyrics and intent, given his reasons for leaving. That should not distract us, however, from how great this is.
