Very touching and funny episode. Who knew that sardonic Harriet could actually be funny as well as Leonard. I wish they had used them more. Also liked the boss Dan. I thought the whole thing worked.

With Garn Stephens as Harriet, very good stage actress, she was the original "Jan" in the Broadway production of "Grease". She never really got her big chance on tv, she was only on THIS tv show for it's last season. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garn_Stephens

I’ve been watching all these classic shows that I never thought would be on here, but is it me? Or is this version of Phyllis not the same version we got on Mary Tyler Moore? She’s not as silly and ridiculous as the Phyllis I loved on that show. She’s more like.....well.....Mary Tyler Moore. Mother Dexter is a hoot and to me was the true star of this show as much as I loved Cloris Leachman. I can see why it didn’t last unfortunately

The producers felt they had to tone down the character to appeal to a wider audience as the character of Phyllis could be overbearing. Plus, the character was humbled by the loss of her husband and wealth. Keeping mind, they did the same with the character of Rhoda. She too was not exactly the same character from The Mary Tyler Moore Show. They brought in her sister Brenda to make up for it. You know, not as pretty and always putting herself down.
Even the character of Mary Richards changed quite a bit from 1970 to 1977. Not nearly as much as a pushover and innocent, she learned to assert herself and became more sophisticated.

@@BoBo-ti6jh Thank you for sharing that. I kinda sorta liked the MTM show back in the day but since I bought it digitally at a good price, I love it. But yeah, I guess I could understand why Phyllis had to be toned down a bit for her own show. I guess her eccentricity would kinda be out of place after a while. Which I guess is why Mother Dexter was brought in. And I agree . Rhoda wasn’t exactly sexy on MTM. Cute, yes, but she was a little insecure as Mary seemed to get the most dates but on her own show, especially after marrying joe, she started to dress better, her hair looked more done up, and you’re right, Brenda kinda became more like her sister once used to act, with the insecurities and all that. Three very good shows. Since Phyllis was never released in any way shape or form, I’m glad all the episodes are right here on youtube.
