It’s so nice to see Clu doing comedy! I’ve never seen that side of him, and he’s quite good at it. I also didn’t realize that, besides going gray so young (in his 30s), he also started balding fairly young. That’s quite a combover he has here!

Although I love Cloris, I think the reason her show didn't work is because it was usually very poorly written. Phyllis is made to be the butt of the own bad joke that IS her life... It's like "Here's Phyllis the failure, the widow, the flop with no talents except being a parody of herself." The writers didn't know what to do much of the time. So, they tried to make up for it a bit with the supporting characters - namely, Mother Dexter and the people Phyllis worked with. It would've lasted longer if it had been better written. Betty White's show was way worse even, and only lasted a little more than half a season. And why? Horrid writing. I did hear though from Jimmy Burrows (director) when he spoke one time about his work on "Phyllis" and how it wasn't as good as many other shows he did. He said that Cloris, brilliant though she was, "just wanted to try everything - she'd try to play a scene five different ways and we were supposed to take the one that worked the best and it just made the process difficult."
