kharmachaos667 yes same reason I stopped playing. Few days ago I accidentally It again. After much reluctance, I played it. Well they have made it better than before. But there still 3 hour waiting time to unlock next missions.
Zambletons Actually, you need fire or some kind of light for them to release you. Though the more you struggle the harder they will hold on to you, that's why you need to relax.
I have to honestly confess I never read the books so I wouldn't know. but the game is evidently based off of the movie. :P and you need energy to watch the movie.
Looks like you've ran out of energy! Energy recharges every 4 minutes. Wait for your energy to be recharged or buy now! I did my waiting! 12 years! In Azkaban!
These greedy corporate parasites who influence developers to put predatory MTX in their games, coincidentally also hate sunlight exposing their shady and unethical business practices, just like devils snare.
You know what's funny? You escape the Devil's Snare by not moving, and yet the game forces you to struggle in order to save yourself. It's not only a shitty practice, but also artificially inserted in a lore-breaking scenario.
Keep in mind that I never played this and don't intend to, so if there is an actual logic reason behind that, please, tell someone that cares because I sure as hell don't. It's shitty either way.
Video Games: Press A to struggle out of the monster's grasp Mobile Games: Pay (insert insane amount of money, here) to struggle out of the monster's grasp
@@hanatoro6399 the people who do this dont even earn much money. they release a bad produkt and you dont like it, thats ok, but saying either be successful or go to jail is stupid. some people go hot for pay2win games. you are like those people who believes gore movies are bad and should be forbidden. you are literally arguing against freedom.
Videogames then after beating the game: You unlocked a secret door! Videogames now after beating the game: I finally bought the DLC to unlock that secret door! Seriously, it sucks and A LOT of games now do this. Soon Pokémon will do this. Too bad TLoZ is doing this bs now.
ShinySpiritomb 33, yes, but it should be something EARNED in the game. Instead of making people pay money just to get a little more of the story included into the game.
Also it's not an RPG. It's barely a game. You just click on things, and wait timers. This is not an RPG. Would it be so hard to release a proper Harry Potter RPG starring our own character for the PC/consoles? Probably not, but then they can't put this energy shit into it.
It's more like a visual novel. I didn't have all this issue y'all are talking about because I've only ever played mobile games and I'm used to this kind of waiting. If they didn't put a timer on it, just imagine how many people would throw it aside after completion. They should probably just put up a paid version with unlimited energy instead of the scam free-to-play. That way they still earn the money and avoid any sort of backlash.
If i remembered it correctly there’s a game years before this similar to what you’re looking for. Visual novel, dueling, potion making, wand-flicking, it has it all. PlayStation did a pretty good job on it.
Sora Jack I think that is the core of the problem. Many people playing on their phones don't know anything but the "clash of clans" - "farmville" - kind of game.
This game is literally unplayable. You can only play for 1 min at a time at most before waiting 1+ hours for your Energy to recover. And the clothing items are ridiculously expensive.
Holy shit, I miss when games where about creating an unique experience. About the power of interactive art. Im sorry but most publishers and corporations ruin games and art.
Woken One Games are still about art, you're just looking in the wrong places. Games released under larger publishers generally lack soul because the design process is industrialized, but there are large numbers of smaller developers that are dedicated to creating immersive, interactive experiences. The biggest shackles that hold the industry back are publishers that exploit both the developers and consumers for profit. Even people who work for the most insidious of companies like EA want to make a good game that people enjoy.
JackOfen yes I'm sure all those games from the Ness era makes any game in this generation crap, I just can't believe I never knew that all this time every game I've played has been nothing but a cash grab, and that no developers make actual games
boomboy b Trying to be sarcastic? Look, I just named the golden age of gaming. That doesn't mean that all games today are corporate, soulless cashgrabs. But the PS3, 360, Wii era was the start of microtransactions, dlcs, unfinished games being released, content that was on the disc but was locked and much MUCH more corporate meddling. Of course you have no idea of the difference, because you never lived it. To you it has become the normal state because thats how you grew up with it and thats terrifying how companies can get away with shit like that Oh and btw, there are TONS of NES, SNES, Mega Drive, PS1, PS2, N64 and Gamecube games that are FAR superior in gameplay and originality then what is called AAA today.
It has 4,4 stars on the appstore. The reviews all say "Why are you all complaining about this being a "cashgrab" game? You just have to wait a little. Don't be so impatient."...
EA ruined Starwars WB ruined Harry potter Konami ruined MGS Ubisoft ruined (or rather milked) Assassins Creed, Far Cry and Ghost Recon Microtansactions will be out the door if this keeps up. I'm going to guess the next one on the list to mess with a franchise is a gaming company with an insatiable avarice
This is something you would see out of a parody or something, not an actual game. Holy shit, to think that I used to buy things like this when o was younger.
This can't even be classified as an idle game. Idle games actually have progression which you can look at. This is just waiting to wait more, with nothing in between.
Alright, let's do this... 1. Harry Pother and the Philosophers Scam 2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Micro-transactions 3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Electronic Arts 4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Pride and Accomplishment 5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Season Pass 6. Harry Potter and the Purely Cosmetic Prince 7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Downloadable Content Feel free to add your own to the mix.
This isn't just bullshit business practice. It's also Lore-breaking. The way you get out of Devil's Snare is by doing nothing! It should be Zero energy!
I mean technically you can either do nothing or use lumos to make it let go of you... of course they went with the option that would make people cough up money
Ava Plante but you don’t have to spend any money to use lumos. Just wait until you have more energy. There’s literally no reason to spend money unless you’re so impatient that everything has to be done THAT SECOND
Max Lastra wait what? If this was any other fame How would you like it if you were in the middle of a boss fight and bam you run out of energy to keep playing and the game stops you fom playing for a few minutes like DF. The issue here is they STOP YOU from playing the game unless you pay.
Wakil Ahmed but it’s not stopping you from playing the game. That’s just the game format and mechanism. It’s not like this is an actual video game that’s making you wait, it’s an app. You wait or you pay but no one is making you pay so it’s not that big of a deal. All you have to do is not be an impatient child with the memory span of a goldfish
Let me get this straight..the entire game is based on whatever you do requires energy? If that were the case, Harry Potter must’ve been loaded with gems.
Don't forget there's a timer for the full activity as well. If you don't perform the activity in full it resets, so you get halfway but because you need to wait for energy you forget about the game, the next day you're back at the start of the activity and you have to do it all over again.
Wow. That screenshot of the player character being strangled while the game is asking you to pay money to continue is the perfect analogy to what's going on in the game indistry right now.
You do know that WB were the ones that put out Middle Earth Shadow of War, right? The game that basically fucked over its predecessor's signature mechanic, the nemesis system where orcs would remember past encounters with the player, to have a sleazy orc merchant sell them to the player as loot crates.
I hope WB feels good that Roger, the youthful Gryffindor pleb was murdered slowly by asphyxiation because of them. RIP Roger, I’ll always remember him as he was born on my iPad and the precious 30 minutes I spent with him.
@DetectiveBarricade The lootcrates barely gave you an advantage (you can make better orcs just by grinding), weapon drops are crap, and it doesn't make the end grind any faster (the end grind is boring anyway.) Besides they removed them once they learned no one was buying their gold, as you made enough of the earned currency to buy the crates without having to pay a cent. Monolith removed the crates, and not WB by the way.
Well in reality we spend aproximetaly 60% of energy with thinking. But there are worse examples in this game like take a break in this game as he mentioned.
I agree, but a lot of the games you pay to play have DLC and microtransactions creeping in. What's worse than a cash grabby free game? A cash grabby game that you paid full price for.
sophie m That's been my experience as well. I used to play F2P, but lately I've been dumping out my mobile's library in favor of paid games, 'cause eff this BS.
You know, when I saw this game I was really excited, I thought I would be able to choose my path and feel like a true Hogwarts student. Screw that, said Warner Brothers and they made you watch your own character getting asphixiated because you dont have enough freaking energy to do anything. Well the thing is, every single action you do costs energy which you only have 24 of at the start of the game which is a ridiculously low amount knowing that the game makes you spend energy in things like TAKING A BREAK. I really thought game companies had learned about the topic of making gamers spend money after the disaster that was Star Wars Battlefront 2 but no, it looks as if they keep on doing the same scummy things they did before. Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery will in my opinion go down as one of THE WORST if not the single worst mobile game in the history of games and I know some people will say that almost every mobile game is like that and that is true but the thing is that when you mess with a franchise as big as Harry Potter or Star Wars or anything with enourmous fanbases as is with those two, doing something like that can really maje the franchise look bad and make the fans unhappy so WB I hope you learn about this mistake and make your next game much better than this piece of crap.
I don’t mind the game, and at first I was stoked when I saw it but then I started playing it and I instantly got irritated at the fact I had to wait forever or fork over cash, it made me even more pissed when I’d come back from waiting only to find out I waited too long and I had to start over. I do actually enjoy the storyline but I just wish they would make a Harry Potter rpg where you could have your own character and make your own choices and relationships for ps4 and other consoles instead of a crappy money hungry mobile game... really disappointing as a Harry Potter fan and if JK Rowling knows about this then that makes me even more disappointed.
you're talking like an addict. As soon as something shakes you out of it, like say the death of a loved one in my case when I was addicted to one, and you can't bring yourself to play a grinder of a "game" and you stop playing, you won't want to play it again. It's not fun, it's a time killer that doesn't do anything for you, it's just there to hook you via brand loyalty. None of these games are fun.
Got GMod? Hogwarts RP. Nah, but really, while the presence of other people can break your immersion and suddenly chaos ensues in the Great Hall when every person is gathered and screaming at the top of their lungs, I've had a good time playing it and getting lost in the massive school looking for my next class where older students got first say in what spell we learned that time. The people who play teachers actually try to give lessons pertaining to the class, overall a random, but fun experience.
Bloodyidit I rarely play games, I like to play the odd game and don’t like mobile games 99% of the time. But I do love Harry Potter and was stoked to hear there was a game.
It's also kind of worth noting that the imagery of your avatar (which likely looks a lot like yourself or yourself as a child) being strangled is quite discomforting/disturbing and an image that one would want to get rid of as soon as possible and the only way to do this is pay up. In short, it seems to me that this imagery is quite exploitative, especially when the game is designed to stop you right at that point.
Novarcharesk I didn't mean to imply a full emotional breakdown, I just meant that the image seems manipulative. Like, "if you don't pay us money for energy, your child avatar will be strangled." While I certainly didn't breakdown at that image when I played, it did make me uncomfortable. If I was someone who was more vulnerable to that sort of manipulation or more sensitive to that imagery, perhaps I would have paid for energy
The game, well for me makes me feel like excited,oh i cant wait to beat the devils snare! It kept me occupied while i was waiting because i daydream on what will happen next. Maybe you guys just dont give this game a chance. Just Sayin.
Imagine playing a game where you can only die 3 times, then you have to pay a microtransaction before you lose ALL your progress. To make matters seem more urgent, it literally gives you a 10 second countdown timer to pay.
Microtransactions (a brief history): Paying money for cosmetics. Paying money for better weapons. Paying money to skip timers through secondary currency. Buying lootboxes for the chance of getting cosmetics. Buying lootboxes for the chance of better weapons. Buying lootboxes for the chance of getting secondary currency to skip time. >here The game will literally strangle a child until you pay money.
Its legal if there are no laws written about it. And given that most of the people who write laws think a "Galaxy S6" is four light years west of Canis Major, I don't think we can hope for much.
Any transaction is legal as long as all parties involved agree and neither party is led to believe they're getting something that they're not. I cannot explain to you, however, why there are people who spend money on this. That is why these games exist, because someone somewhere is paying up and making up for the development costs and more. I believe that's a fact that cannot be changed. Just ignore these types of games and move on. It doesn't really have to concern you what some people do with their money, after all, although I suppose you could say it's swaying the gaming industry in a bad direction.
ImAnderZEL Capitalizing on impatience isn't illegal, or else your local quick stop 24/7 gas station wouldn't be charging $3.00 for the same Cola the grocery store charges $1 for. It's a new "convenience fee"
"Major Corporation Strangles Children Unless You Pay Them Money" sounds like a dystopian joke or meme, but that's where the games industry is at right now.
Honestly these things don't need to be referred to as games anymore, it gives them too much credit. I think you should just refer to these type of things as "schemes", a word which adequately captures the dishonesty and unethical nature of these type of products.
Monsieur Jeaques Mobile scheme. Revealing a con job for what it is doesn't mean anybody had faith it. It's good for the community to warn each other about con artists like the people that developed this scheme.
Taxtro Taxtro Taxtro scheme skēm/Submit noun 1. a large-scale systematic plan or arrangement for attaining some particular object or putting a particular idea into effect. "a clever marketing scheme" synonyms: plan, project, plan of action, program, strategy, stratagem, tactic, game plan, course/line of action; More 2. SCOTTISHinformal a public housing complex. "the whole scheme is plunged into darkness, bar the light in Victor's house" verb 1. make plans, especially in a devious way or with intent to do something illegal or wrong. "he schemed to bring about the collapse of the government" Google the word "scheme". Each English definition matches my usage.
That is terrible, it kills me to think of a child seeing this, see their character being strangled to near death unless money is paid. Even not being interested in the series or this game, I would hurt inside to see my little 4yr old brother run up to mom and dad crying that his character is dying and begging for money that they just can't pay up at any given time. This is terrible.
You know... I'm going to install this and reveiw it one star complaining about the energy system without even playing but I have enough experience with EA to rant about this
E3H0 literally played it. Its all shit. The energy system. You choose your house. And the classes you take is shit. Snape will take 50points from you even if you did nothing. Its difficult to get 1st without paying
That's kind of a fraudulent review. Experience it yourself, and if it IS any good, to an extent better than the 1 star kind of good, then you may rate it higher.
Not only that but if you look at the game reviews on the app store, it is about 100% bot reviews. Every single review posed on April 24, BEFORE THE GAME WAS EVEN LAUNCHED, and every single review is 5*. Talk about predatory practices at its finest.
I was one of the beta testers for the game and I ended up leaving a comment prior to the official release. So, not all reviews from before the official release are bots.
This is pretty messed up tbh. Could you imagine a kid playing this game and seeing their character getting strangled only to feel helpless, probably panic, and ask their parents for money? Christ, pay to win is always egregious, but for a kid especially, this is mercilessly predatory.
I was a really dumb kid and I wouldn't have freaked out over an in game avatar. Like the kid would have to be so sheltered that would never have watched tv, been on the internet, seen a movie, or played any other game ever, AND had a mental disability to be truly disturbed by this game. Kids really aren't that dumb. And once again I was a really, really dumb kid.
To add to the story from our friend Jim Sterling, there is another timer that if you take too long on a sequence of tasks, the entire sequence resets and you lose all progress, starting right at the beginning. I wonder why that would have been implemented to punishing you for waiting too long, I ask as I see dollar signs in the eyes of WB.
Paladin Boyd They managed to make a port of Lego Harry Potter y1-4 and 5-7 for iOS, years ago when smartphones weren't even that powerful. Edit: Apparently it was also available for Android.
It's your choice whether or not to pay. Just like it's your choice whether or not to buy pizza over spaghetti or that shirt you saw on clarence. It's not illegal for a business to try and make money, heck, that's ultimately their goal, so stop placing the unnecessary blame on them.
@John Roche I think that was specifically about random loot box style micro-transactions John Roche. Being told to spend money to progress the game is not gambling in any way. I consider this particular Harry Potter game a form of "coercion" micro-transaction, however. It took a while for things like Cigarettes to be properly regulated, and micro-transaction based freemium games are relatively new. Eventually I believe they will be brought under control before they do too much damage. Eve Kopsolias is either a shill or a contrarian. @Purple Team Pyrostrike >Dungeon Keeper What should have been illegal is how EA bribed people into giving it a 5 star review. They wern't even trying to hide it, literally said out in the open for everyone to see that you'd get free in-game currency if you gave it a 5-star review. THAT should have been absolutely illegal.
I've tried to explain this kind of system to my friends using this game as a reference, but I ironically can't stop laughing at the thought of how stupid it is.
Yong, dont forget they also ask you if youre enjoying yourself and to rate the game literally just before you get to this stupid event. Its like they knew wed be pissed off about this bs so they tried to play nice before showing their teeth. Thats some next level money grabbing
The Logic of Warner Bros : - Sees a video that talks about the game's despicable money grabbing schemes - Thinks that there's no problem with putting an ad of said game

JackOfen yes I'm sure all those games from the Ness era makes any game in this generation crap, I just can't believe I never knew that all this time every game I've played has been nothing but a cash grab, and that no developers make actual games
boomboy b
Trying to be sarcastic? Look, I just named the golden age of gaming. That doesn't mean that all games today are corporate, soulless cashgrabs. But the PS3, 360, Wii era was the start of microtransactions, dlcs, unfinished games being released, content that was on the disc but was locked and much MUCH more corporate meddling. Of course you have no idea of the difference, because you never lived it. To you it has become the normal state because thats how you grew up with it and thats terrifying how companies can get away with shit like that
Oh and btw, there are TONS of NES, SNES, Mega Drive, PS1, PS2, N64 and Gamecube games that are FAR superior in gameplay and originality then what is called AAA today.

The irony that Warner brother Games are now on Origin. Maybe this was one of the requirements for WB to be EA-worthy and get approved for Origin.
Games4Kickz This wouldn't be unsurprising. EA did publish the non-Lego Harry Potter games.
@DetectiveBarricade The lootcrates barely gave you an advantage (you can make better orcs just by grinding), weapon drops are crap, and it doesn't make the end grind any faster (the end grind is boring anyway.)
Besides they removed them once they learned no one was buying their gold, as you made enough of the earned currency to buy the crates without having to pay a cent. Monolith removed the crates, and not WB by the way.
Chuck Nv RIP Rodger. F.

What can we do? The developers are nothing but a bunch of greedy imbeciles
Well in reality we spend aproximetaly 60% of energy with thinking. But there are worse examples in this game like take a break in this game as he mentioned.

This is more an owner driven concept than developer driven
Why I hate mobile gaming
@Nugget games are still games
I'd rather pay $30-60 one time for a game that is decent than play a "free" game for hours and get nothing from it

I agree, but a lot of the games you pay to play have DLC and microtransactions creeping in. What's worse than a cash grabby free game? A cash grabby game that you paid full price for.

I do actually enjoy the storyline but I just wish they would make a Harry Potter rpg where you could have your own character and make your own choices and relationships for ps4 and other consoles instead of a crappy money hungry mobile game... really disappointing as a Harry Potter fan and if JK Rowling knows about this then that makes me even more disappointed.
a Harry Potter rpg for consoles/pc would be so hype
Annie rowling doesnt give a shit about harry potter, she only cares about getting money from it
you're talking like an addict.
Maybe for a kid, but if an adult is really gonna have an emotional meltdown over this, then damn. Grow up.
Jeremy Clements Its still not that graphic. This is just crying over spilled milk.

This sure is a new low how can this be legal? Is it legal?
ImAnderZEL probably not
Its legal if there are no laws written about it.

Why would you give a 4 year old a phone in the first place?
@@nernguan1210 ikr
That One Unicorn no he doesn’t
I'm 100 percent sure that no 4 year old would own and manage a phone. It's either a siblings or parents phone
Your 4 year old shouldn't be using a phone or tablet anyway...
This game had one thing that confused me. Lol
Snape Taking points from Slytherin.
That's not how he works.
Mahmoud ahmad if it has necessary micro transactions it’s automatically a shit game.
It isn't necessary, but it's annoying.
Don’t worry, they couldn’t give two shits
Not only that but if you look at the game reviews on the app store, it is about 100% bot reviews. Every single review posed on April 24, BEFORE THE GAME WAS EVEN LAUNCHED, and every single review is 5*. Talk about predatory practices at its finest.
ongon68 ikr I saw that
I was one of the beta testers for the game and I ended up leaving a comment prior to the official release. So, not all reviews from before the official release are bots.
Those aren’t 100% bots some where beta testers but yeah mostly bots
Berry thief So wait... you left a review on a game before it was finished, before it came out in a "complete" state? Hm.
Charge Have you played a Beta game?
This would actually be the best part of the game for anyone with a tentacle fetish.
Spengbab :^)
Spengbab calm down bro, this is a child.
And energy fetish
No publisher is getting away with monitising my favourite fetish
*HENTAI*
Totally lost it at the "defies logic by wasting energy to take a break"
This is pretty messed up tbh. Could you imagine a kid playing this game and seeing their character getting strangled only to feel helpless, probably panic, and ask their parents for money? Christ, pay to win is always egregious, but for a kid especially, this is mercilessly predatory.
Captain Casual I find thst pertty funny actually. "What the hell are you playing, son?!"
A child panicking over that is probably stupid
I was a really dumb kid and I wouldn't have freaked out over an in game avatar.
Like the kid would have to be so sheltered that would never have watched tv, been on the internet, seen a movie, or played any other game ever, AND had a mental disability to be truly disturbed by this game.
Kids really aren't that dumb. And once again I was a really, really dumb kid.
I completely agree this is redicilous!! What does tbh mean though??
Jake Drake To be honest..
Yong Yeala is on her period today.
Can you really call this a game? It’s a barebones joke of an interactive slideshow.
TheWitness, It’s a mobile game what do you expect?
Paladin Boyd let’s be honest - we don’t consider mobile gamers as actual gamers.
TheWitness, True.
You get to duel later on in the game. I'm currently in year 2 half way and I've been playing for a week *shrugs*
Paladin Boyd They managed to make a port of Lego Harry Potter y1-4 and 5-7 for iOS, years ago when smartphones weren't even that powerful.
Edit: Apparently it was also available for Android.
Harry! *Loses 10 energy by yelling* DID YOU PUT YOUR MONEY IN THE GOBLET OF FIRe?!
5:16 You need energy to imagine bruh!
Caleb Henning aww damn at least you have energy to sleep, right?
Ikr you even need energy to rest in some scenarios 😂😂😂
That's why I'm so bad at school
xD
And to discuss sunlight (i.e. be told not to look into the sun)
These kind of predatory micro-transaction games should be made illegal.
Lord Proteus dungeon keeper almost sparced controversy
It's your choice whether or not to pay. Just like it's your choice whether or not to buy pizza over spaghetti or that shirt you saw on clarence. It's not illegal for a business to try and make money, heck, that's ultimately their goal, so stop placing the unnecessary blame on them.
Eve Kopsolias that doesn’t mean they get to squeeze money from people if they want to make money they can sell the game on the App Store
There are people making moves towards that goal. Its being argued weather or not micro transactions can be considered underage gambling
@John Roche
I think that was specifically about random loot box style micro-transactions John Roche.
@Purple Team Pyrostrike
>Dungeon Keeper
What should have been illegal is how EA bribed people into giving it a 5 star review. They wern't even trying to hide it, literally said out in the open for everyone to see that you'd get free in-game currency if you gave it a 5-star review. THAT should have been absolutely illegal.
Yeah... I think I’ll just go back to running around in my backyard yelling “AVADA KEDAVRA!”
firework guns are even better, because they shoot sparks of light out.
@@alexceous and they can actually kill people. Win-win!
Have fun and all, but that'll cost you 50 energy per minute.
W8 w8 w8, that is 250 energy
@warystatue33 Expecto Grenado!
Hearing the word gems just makes me want to die now
a game that cost money is better than a game that forces micro transactions
Agreed
Legomonster33 because? I can install a game without buying for Internet and i can download a hack for the game with Infinite energy
Legomonster33 true
Until that game that costs money also decides to force micro-transactions
I mean sure if you want viruses.
I got the game, but deleted it after finding out about the energy.
Same :/
Free in name only.
Nate Rivers Free To Pay
Hint hint, wink wink, nudge nudge...... give us money!
Dimitri Lerner "Free to Play"
Amen
“Free to start”
-Not the Nintendo E-Shop
I've tried to explain this kind of system to my friends using this game as a reference, but I ironically can't stop laughing at the thought of how stupid it is.
Yong, dont forget they also ask you if youre enjoying yourself and to rate the game literally just before you get to this stupid event. Its like they knew wed be pissed off about this bs so they tried to play nice before showing their teeth. Thats some next level money grabbing
I wondered why it had such good reviews on the app store
Sorry, you need 25 energy to rate this game 1 star. Better spend 10 gems to get energy, and only use one of it!
rate this game 5 stars and earn 25 energy!
Nealen the Nerd maybe it is
But then again I don’t really care about this game
Start video *get ad for game*
They were hoping the ad was so impressive you wouldn't bother watching the video.
Same
happens to me every time i watch a video abt this gamr
Same
The Logic of Warner Bros :
- Sees a video that talks about the game's despicable money grabbing schemes
- Thinks that there's no problem with putting an ad of said game
