I was racking my brain for the best part of a decade trying to remember a certain psp game and this dude busted out untold legends and fried me with nostalgia
I was working in Manhattan when this came out, and the PSP was INCREDIBLE for riding on the subways and busses across the city. Made the commute so much more enjoyable. Emulators worked really well, too!
My first experience with online multiplayer was actually on the PSP. Medal of Honor Heros supported 32 players in a single game & was truly legendary back in 2006 when I got my psp. I miss those handheld days.
I have a hacked PS Vita with over 100 GB of PSP games on it. One of the best things I own. Nobody is using the PlayStation store. You can't even download games through it anymore. Everybody who has a PSP hacked it and is downloading ISOs.
Fun fact: the Vader PSP is one of the rare 2001 models that you can be 100% assured is fully hackable with CFW. Have one myself and it has been my fave portable for eons. It is so funny and excellent to me to be able to play some of my most loved Nintendo games from GBA on the Sony Slab 😂
I ended up going with the PSP GO. While it isn't the ideal way if you want to collect for PSP. I still like the form factor, how small at is and just able to slide in your pocket whenever I travel. Mines is Modded so I have it full of the ganes I enjoy playing. Also had a great deal for the PSP GO Cradle. I sometimes just Dock it and play on the TV. Its a really cool little Handheld
Syphon Filter Dark Mirror and Syphon Filter Logans Run are essential games to play on PSP. Outrun 2006 Coast to Coast and the Burnout games are also a lot of fun on PSP as well.
Important side note: Both the PSP and Ps Vita can be jailbroken pretty easily. There are many tutorials online. Both systems also have proprietary (non-standard) memory cards. The best way to enjoy these systems now-a-days, is to jailbreak them, and buy a memory card adapter specific to that console and you're good to go! I do think the PS-Vita is more worth it if you can find it the right price. By jailbreaking it, you have access to the full PS-Vita library which includes some ports of PS2 and PS3 games. You also have full access to all PSP and PS1 games. And the PS-Vita Homebrew scene just keeps growing!! More and more people are making new games for the Vita or porting games from other systems like Bully or Simpsons Hit and Run to name a few.
If you are thinking of buying a PSP and you came to this video, don't hesitate any longer and go buy it now! I can guarantee that you will not regret it!
Here's some PSP games I enjoy (some are imports). Most will probably never get a digital re-release (not that I buy digital anyway). "SEGA Genesis Collection" "N+" "Space Invaders Pocket" "Puzzle World" "Taito Legends Power Up" "I.Q. Mania" "Atari Classics Evolved" "Namco Museum Battle Collection". Plus the movies "T2" "RE Apocalypse" "RE Extinction" all presented in the correct 1.85:1 ratio. The 2.40:1 ratio of the DVD/Blu-ray cuts information off the top/bottom of the screen & adds basically nothing to the sides.
You're right about that Jeanne D'Arc cover art. That's what made me buy that game when I saw it on the shelf almost 20 years ago and I wasn't even a big RPG fan. Seeing Jeanne staring up at the heavens in her battle armor was intriguing. Took it home and played it and immediately became addicted to it. One of my all time favorite PSP games.
Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories are so underrated. They introduced the business mechanics into the game and it just made A LOT of sense in GTA. Businesses is what I love about GTA Online.
My most recommended for JRPG/Tactical RPG fans is Spectral Souls. I have hundreds of hours in this, there is just that much content and I don't think I finished the story. Not because I had to grind to do it, but because I enjoyed the side content so much. There's a lack of JRPGs in this video. Hexyz Force, Blade Dancer: Lineage of Light (PS4/5 w/ trophy support), Generation of Chaos(not Aedis Eclipse), Brave Story (published by Xseed), Mimana: Iyar Chronicles, Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion, Mana Khemia (has more content than the PS2 version), Popolo Crois, and Phantasy Star Portable 1 and 2 (PSP is like Phantasy Star Universe, but with a custom character)
Thank you for including Freedom Unite in this video. A lot of people started in rise and world and they didn't know what the series is all about before.
I just started collecting for the PSP, mainly so I could play Megaman powered up again but there are so many games worth getting. Dissidea FF, the FF 1, 2 and 4 remakes as well as tactics. There are anime games galore and since the PSP isn’t region locked you can play those as well, notably the bleach games on PSP, there are so many that we didn’t get.
I bought the same model and a bunch of the games I had when I was 13! Such an incredible little system. The feelings I have tied to this thing are so different from any other console. Still so impressive for the time it comes from.
I collected a lot of the psp movies at the time other than that the console had lots of exclusives I was pissed that the megaman legends psp ports got cancelled for North America
I’ve basically turned my phone into a psp/nintendo handheld. Ppsspp is a god send for people who didn’t get a chance to play these games as a kid and don’t necessarily want to throw the coin at a psp and games.
One game I loved on PSP was Death Jr. Reviewed about average but was really fun. Like a cross between Psyconauts and Ratchet and Clank. And of course Tony Hawk Underground 2 Remix. Don't even know how many times I replayed that story.
Phantasy star portable 1 and 2, the ys games, star ocean 1 and 2, legend of heroes 1 2 and 3, tales of eternia, tales of the world radiant mythology, lunar series, gurumin a monstrous adventure, the prinny and disgaea series and black rock shooter are some of the best games you can get on the psp. ❤❤❤ Especially black rock shooter. I haven't seen any other game with the unique combat system. It has. I want more RPGs with that style of combat.
One of my favorite games for the PSP was Pursuit Force and the sequel. I got the first one just because it was one of the first run of games for the PSP.
I picked one up brand new like 2 years back. I love it. The last thing I played was symphony of the night using a save file online to unlock it in that collection thags on the system.
Something to keep in mind with the PSP: unless you know how to mess with the security on your router, you won’t be able to access the internet since the system doesn’t recognize WPA2 security. I have the 2000, not sure if the newer versions do.
Doesn't matter even if you change your router to just WPA. I did it & was able to get connection but all the SSL certificates are old asf, so no websites worked. All I was able to use was basic google like an old cell phone lol. However I did some digging & I read somewhere someone got mozilla working on their PSP. There's also PSPDisp which you can use to stream your PC to, or even use the PSP as a controller if you'd want that, haven't tried it myself but looked pretty awesome.
Crazy Taxi fare wars, Chile con Carnage, Snk arcade classics, Metal Gear Acid, Burn out Dominator, Guitaroo Man lives to just name a few. All the WWE SvR games were excellent too.
wish you mentioned key of heaven (or kingdom of paradise in the us i believe) absolutely love this game so much and played it so many times. good story, great gameplay and me personally i love the music in it as well. cover art is fantastic as well and it was the main reason i even picked up the game as a kid when i saw it
Matty I wanted to point out that Jeanne de Arc is pronounced similarly to Joan of Ark. Less similar to John Dark, more similar to Joan of Ark. Actually the narrative designer from Ara said it in the French styling during your great interview! Just something I wanted to highlight because thanks to Ara you've had to say the name quite a bit lately 🤣. Fun video.
Don't quite know if this is an unorthodox thing to keep in mind, but one benefit of the PSP 1000 is that it's the only model you know for sure you can flash cfw onto, meaning you don't have to set it up every time you boot the system. You can completely bypass the poor disc drive by ripping your umds directly to your memory card. It's so nice.
I have a silver and black PSP, I used to take them everywhere I went and play on the go. the silver one is broken and I don't think it's repairable but my black PSP is still kicking, it just needs a new cover on the left analog stick and a fix on the X button because it's smudged in and I would have to press hard for it to read any commands on it. I loved playing Lego games on them and used to watch Spider-Man 2 all the time, even used to watch little game trailer CD's that came with it haha
PSP was ahead of its time and using it now proves that, I think for most users they should mod a VITA and just emulate the PSP on it, I however have SD card mods done on my PSP and Vita, PSP has better face buttons, VITA better sticks, screen, and games. But something about the PSP/Ps3 menuing man, whoosh its amazing.
Matty you should consider trying Chinatown Wars for Retro Rebound. I think you’d like it. The PSP version on Vita would probably be the definitive way to play btw.
I had god of war special edition red PSP 2000 that I played the heck out of but it got stolen sadly. After that I just got the Vita that I still use and I’ve modded it with many PSP games on it which according to me is the best way to play them now
Love my PSP! As a physical game collector the PSP is still the only way to get a lot of these games. Final Fantasy tactics war of the Lions is still the best version and though I think you can get it on PC and there's rumblings of a remake, I still recommend it. That and Y's Seven. Worth mentioning that Valkyrie Profile Lenneth is an updated version of the PS1 game and much much cheaper if you want that physical version and miss the whir of a UMD drive under your fingers.
i've always LOVED the street model. everyone hates on it because it's "cheap". but it's my favorite. has the longest battery life (BY A LOT), the best feeling d-pad, buttons and triggers. great display, looks modern. will not collect all your fingerprints. durable and reliable as heck! the best one for PS1 games. and if all you play is single player PSP games, it's the best as well. i only fire my psp slim for ad-hoc games. that's the only use of those crap. PSP STREET IS THE BEST PSP! and if you really need the adhoc, the VITA is the best option!
Psp is definitely a great handheld, same with the vita. After owning both and using em extensively, gotta say the psp just feels so good to use for psp and psx. If the battery life was on par with the vita, I'd use it more than the vita for sure. But definitely , two handhelds im glad to have.
I still play my psp 3000 and Go. The psp go can output to a tv and use the dual shock 3 as a wireless controller. It's the only psp that supports that.
The PSP is the JRPG fan's wet dream. I basically owe this console for turning me into a Square Enix and Atlus megastan with the amount of nights I'd spent sneaking in some playtime on P3P and FFIV Complete as a kid Also timing this with the Lunar announcement was clever lol
I started buying PSP games and movies this year. it's really funny picking some of them up because at the gamestore the clerk just looks at me going "Christmas with the Kranks, huh?"
I'd advice you guys to pay a bit more and get a vita instead. Because it can play both vita and psp games and better control schemes than psp when you emulate psx games on it.
on hacked ps vita you can play psp game at the full resolution of the vita screen, game look really awesome like that., and you have the psp menu so it don't feel like cheap experience in a souless menu
I'd recommend getting Kurohyou 1&2. Japan exclusive spin-offs of the Yakuza series. There is a fan made English patch, though. Don't worry. I'd also recommend Undead Knights. It's kinda like Dynesty Warriors, but you can turn enemy units into your undead servants.
I need to get one of these again, i had one when i was younger but it's seen better days now, still have the Hatsune Miku Project Diva games for it, Megpoid the Music and DJMax Portable also (i could gush about the PSP for hours, don't mind me :)
I was racking my brain for the best part of a decade trying to remember a certain psp game and this dude busted out untold legends and fried me with nostalgia
Amazing game!
Spent countless hours playing untold legends 1 and 2 with a friend over Ad hoc good times
Recently had that happen with an old NES title called Star Tropics. Best feeling finally remembering it so I could go back to it.
The psp was head of its time. Takes me back to when to golden years of my childhood
I've got the PSP GO and it's so easy to jailbreak and get all the games you want plus I can easily take it with me because of its size.
I remember playing Liberty City Stories multiplayer all night with my brother when I was in fourth grade! Happy to see it in the video!
I wish I still had my PSP. So many memories playing on it especially on long car rides😩midnight club on the psp just hit and god of war too
God or war games were top tier. Just as good as the other entries.
Get a new one!
i still have mine along with all its games but the screen is broke looooooooooool
When they had Kratos in soul calibur broken destiny man tell me he wasn't the hardest character to fight in that game
The dbz games were so much fun
I love the grinding from the UMD. Sounded like the future, man.
I have a hacked PS Vita with over 100 GB of PSP games on it. One of the best things I own.
Nobody is using the PlayStation store. You can't even download games through it anymore. Everybody who has a PSP hacked it and is downloading ISOs.

That's outdated information. All models of psp are now fully hackable with ARK-4.
Psp was god tier when it released. Hope they make a new one.
Really don’t think someone buying a psp in 2024 is too worried about accessing the PlayStation store, you know what I mean?

Duodecim has a ridiculous amount of content and an overworld map so it’s a lot of fun. It was my inspiration along with crisis core for getting psp
My favorite PSP game was Phantasy Star Portable 2. I was so bummed they never released it on the store for the Vita.
Sega pulled the license before the Vita even released. I had got the digital version. Hell, it was pulled even before the PSP Go came out.
Me too. Goddamn that game is awesome.
Street fighter alpha 3 is one of my favourite psp games of all time
Someone need to tell this guy about Anbernic, Retroid Pocket, Powkiddie, Miyoo, etc.
