Aiden, I love your super-practical advice to those starting out. The P4 and a couple of Podmics got me up and running with minimal investment of money and helped me learn the ins and outs of production over a few months. It is still my portable recorder and is my first choice for mobility if I can secure a space to use it in. True mobile recording "in the field" is a completely different beast. Keep on keeping it real.
For someone on a budget looking to get multiple people on mics at the same time the XM8500 at the current price of $13.50 is insane. Feed them to a Podtrak P4 and you're all set for under 200 bucks.
Merry Christmas mate, all the very best to you and your family, wishing you a prosperous new year!🎄🎉 thanks for making great content this year and taking the time to chat with your audience most Friday's there in Canada.
I was waiting to see if you mentioned the Mackies - which Curtis J apparently prefers over the Rodecasters with their larger screens and (I think) more intuitive interface/menus. Same company now so let's hope the competition isn't quashed. Just wanted to mention a mic option I've liked the sound of in all comparisons - and as a mic snob I was ready to dismiss any company name I don't see in pro studios - but I think the Maono HD 300 has won me over. Looks cool too (kinda like the great Lauten Audio LS-208). Amazing value with what appears to be a decent shock mount and pop filter. And despite being a dynamic it almost sounds condensery. At the budget mic end too I think it's worth mentioning the Behringer XM8500, and if mentioning the SM58s I feel the sE V7 which gives it more than a run for its money at a similar price point should also be in the picture.
The Tascam Mixcast 4 is currently $299 at B&H. Also comes with two 6 month subscriptions as well. I think that’s a pretty great deal considering its capability
Oh no...I mentioned the DLZ in the end of the video as the only ones that have met Rode on a level playing field. Otherwise...they arent podcast kings...
@@DarkCornerStudios And that's the problem with commenting before finishing the video, haha. I saw the comment already. I have the DLZ Creator. I love the RODECASTER, but it kept disconnecting - I would lose audio in the middle of my live streams. There was no way to fix it, so I returned it and went with Mackie. It's been a good unit, but I see everything RODE is doing, and it makes me question sticking with Mackie, especially since the DLZ seems to be in limbo, with no updates or future plans.
You would be amazed what I've recorded on the Zoom P4. Sample: th-cam.com/video/GQGD9Qtl1Dk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rtZcuQUdz7Ev1TzW&t=85 This was using a AT875R boom mic, and the P4 provided phantom power. I use it like a field recorder, and for podcasts too.
@DarkCornerStudios Also it's not as distracting as Tom Bucks Creator award if you haven't seen it it's almost as outstanding as his life's fabulous coloured hair.
Yes to doing the same list for voice over.
@@RynardMooreVstar1 I think I’m gonna add it for early in the new year
@@DarkCornerStudios Looking forward to it...
Yes do the same list for voice over. One of my intended uses. Thanks!

So easy to spend (or at least charge), so quick to regret. Thanks for the solid advice, and have a great holiday.
@@steveschnetzler5471 you too buddy!
Happy holidays!!
Merry Christmas Mate. Excellent review as always.
Cheers and same to you!

@@ClintStewart-hk1pu cheers and thank you!!
Still got a couple videos left this year
Lol
100% need the voiceover list! This podcast setup video is fantastic though!
Thanks!!

yes please do for voiceovers
Absolutely you should make a voice over list!
@@ManuelParodiRamos already on it!!
@@DarkCornerStudios nice!
Yeah do a vo one and an audio drama one maybe. 🎉 Happy whatsit.
Oh
Interesting
Though I am pretty sure they would be extremely similar
I had a tiny desk setup in 2020 it was a podmic, minifuse 1, a 40 dollar boom and my m1
Ohhhh...thats a good idea for a video I think

It’s a fantastic board
Especially at that price!!
My vocaster has some kinda random cell phone interference sound in it. Anyone else experience such?
That sounds like it is missing some shielding
Could be your cables though
Swap those out first
What are your feelings on the Zoom L8. I have the L8 and P4.
The specs on it were rough...especially sample rate.
It was a compelling piece several years ago...didnt age well sadly
No mackie? interesting. Great video as always.

Voiceover, voiceover, voiceover!!!
how about using rode wireless pro?
@@rohansaxena9418 oh of course
Definitely an easy pick
You pushed the SM58 what about the " Presidental Mic"???
In my mind they go hand in hand
Fair point though
I should start pointing that out in stuff like this
Just take off the grill

@@TheSternSpiel that’s awesome!
Sound is good!!
Have you thought of having a dark corner Studios patch go over the Rode on your boom arm?
Not really
Logos don’t really bug me though
Also I generally use an overhead mic
@DarkCornerStudios I was.more thinking about your brand promotion than dislike of RODE.
@ it’s impossible to not these days
Any mic I use that isn’t a shotgun can be seen as a promotion
Meh
@DarkCornerStudios Have your purple glasses embrodierd as a patch then it's zero brand. It's more that it's distracting.

Amazon has the dlz creator xs for 325
@@daddingitdaily yeah
Hell of a steal to be honest
@DarkCornerStudios you know I had to order it with the Mackie em 99b mic
Awesome
Tascam for voice over….better preamps. Mackie has gone cheap…not the same as the old 1604vlz.
well..they have abandoned the "tank"persona for more usability
I still like em
YES! Voice over!
Love it!
