I hit the barrel and cylinder with hoppes, and run patches until they come out clean then oil it. if its really skunked out, ill shoot gun scrubber through it before the hoppes
I bought a Taurus 38 2 inch revolver in 2016, and has been sitting in a holster, never used. Today I looked at it and it has easy to rub off brown rust on the tip of the barrel, and inside the barrel. Do I just oil it inside the barrel and the tip? I also had a bottle of Rem Oil I bought when I got the gun, never used it yet. Any help would be appreciated!! Will the Rem oil take care of this rust as well??
Stupid question. I’m a beginner but I thought I read or saw oil was NOT to be used in the barrel. Maybe REM is lubricant and oil but just want to make sure I’m doing the barrel right. Apologies again for the question if it is stupid.
I’ve never had any trouble with using Gun oil in the barrel. However, I know that long barreled guns that using bore oil is better because it has more power to remove the lead deposits. That being said, I don’t think you can’t use regular Gun oil.
38 ammo has been hard to find lately. If you have a local gun store that is usually the best place. The smaller stores tend to have it for some reason. Otherwise, places like Fleet Farm or Sheels.

Thank you, late to the party but got my revolver and your video is quick and easy to remember and straight to the point.
Thanks for the comment! I’m glad the video helped you!
Just got a Taurus 82 as my first gun, I'm glad it's simple to clean.
Yes, it's a great gun!
Just picked up an 856, love it so far.
Wonderful!
I hit the barrel and cylinder with hoppes, and run patches until they come out clean then oil it. if its really skunked out, ill shoot gun scrubber through it before the hoppes
Yes, Hoppes is another great gun oil!
Rem Oil both cleans, lubricates and protects (CLP)
Yes, it is an excellent product.
Good information I have the 856 Defender 3"barrel glow front sites Sweet 👍🏿
Very nice!
Would cleaning be similar to a rock island m206 .38 special? Just bought one and it’s covered in oil
Yes, should be pretty similar.
have same model. solid firearm

Yeah, try to rub as much of the rust off as you can with a rag. Then use that REM Oil and clean it up even more.
Clear and precise. Thanks. What about oiling the inside components? Do you need to and how often?
Thank you. Yes, spray them with some Rem oil whenever you clean it.
I had a revolver just like that back in the early 90s. i only paid 189.00 for it brand new in the box at the gun store
That's a great deal! Guns are an awesome investment.
What about the 6 holes in the cylinder? Do you clean those as well the same way you clean the bore?
I'm new to revolvers thats why.
Yes, spray a little gun oil in there and push a cloth through there. You don't need to use a bristle brush. Only a soft cloth and some oil.
@@HowToVideoChannel Thanks, I really appreciate it!
Nice! I like the hardwood handle! 🆘
Thanks!
Is it safe to cut a little bit off the barrel? It should be right?
I wouldn’t.
It would be better to purchase a shorter barreled revolver.
is the WD40 safe for cleaning.? cause i watch or read in the other comment and video WD40 will damage the gun..
I would only use gun oil, which is specially made for guns.
Sort of off the subject but how do Taurus’ perform long term? I’m thinking about getting some non-revolver ones but I’m new to handguns...
They are a very nice quality firearm.
Can you use w2-40 to clean a gun?
I wouldn’t. Gun oil is specifically made for guns and it is inexpensive. Use it.

I’m curious when you said convertible to 357. how?
You can load and shoot 38 or 357 rounds.
have you tried shooting 357 on this model 82?
I haven’t because I only have the 38 cylinder.
Depending on the specs of your firearm the cylinder may be universal. Others you’ll have to swap out.
Looks like the gun I have but mines regular 38 can't find ammo anywhere. Cannot put 38 special in it it or it will blow up

That's probably 38 Smith & Wesson, also known as 38 short. It is available but you have to look around for it try ammoseek.com
What about a bore cleaner? You can't clean with an oil.
Yes, if you have a lot of gunk, then bore cleaner is a great option.
Heavy use you will need brass brushes to break up lead build up. Light use that should be ok
That’s right!
Can I use WD 40?
Probably. However, gun oil is specifically made for firearms.
No, never!
How much should I pay for a old 38 now days
Probably 3 or 4 hundred.
I'm paying for this model right now. 250$ you could probably find it cheaper if you dig enough but 300$ is pro a good average for other models.
I just picked up a s&w .38 snub nose for $365
I payed 200$ for a smith and Wesson 38 special
Doing just oil in the barrel will not properly clean the barrel. You need something like Hoppes #9. Then finish it off will the oil.
Yes, a good bore cleaner. However, if you clean your barrel with oil and a brush after use of your firearm, then the oil will do a great job.
Must be crazy
Maybe
First step should be to make sure revolver is unloaded.
That’s a good step
@@HowToVideoChannelthat’s a given🤦🏽♀️ if you had to tell them to clean an unloaded weapon they SHOULD NOT own one😂🤣😤
Little bit rusty here! Somebody help out! 🍄🪕🎶📻 Thanks!
A little cleaning should do the trick!
