@somethingorange @DaltonTheDwarven Hahaha, it actually didn't work out - had to head home and upload from there. Thanks for following me on the ol' Twitter.
Plini R H from the band Halcyon plays Guitar chorus on Hypnotic nova's Dance middle track and Wizardry Mind introduction . Thank you to all Plini Breeze and Travis !!!!
the combination of Hypnotic Nova's Dance, flawless drumming and that beautifully mesmerising rug seems to have put me in a state of near trance, fantastic job Travis!
I've listened to this about 30 times today. Travis, you hit this one out of the park. It's nothing new, but the L/R split with your kit makes listening to you an incredible experience.
Travis Orbin, ever since I heard the song, "The Opposite Viewed in Real Time," I was hooked by your complexity and precision. And when I saw it live in OK at the Diamond Ballroom, I was addicted. You have so much imagination and passion in your music and drumming, I feel like I am somewhere else, especially in the "Cartoon Theory" music. All that to ask, have you or have you ever thought of doing music therapy?
Today I was abandoned by my coworkers when we couldn't finish our project by the end of normal work hours and I just don't like leaving something unfinished that can be completed within a couple of hours. Had Planet Geisha blasting out of the speakers to keep me in a good mood and now i can spend the rest of my Friday evening playing it just as loud at home :)
If you have multiple cameras, make sure you take the white balance from the same spot with all the cameras. This way you won't have so much difference in the colors between shots.
I'm loving this song. It's so freakin' groovy. I think I may have to tackle a few parts of it myself. It seems like one of your more tractable songs, especially for a young (as in experience) drummer like myself.
It is rehearsed, but the chart is present to provide 'reminders', and as you can see I even still mistakenly omit things every [great] now and then, haha.
ive always used that method, but the bottom end of the snare often comes from a close mic. and a lot of people hi pass the overheads. especially when sample replacing. id definitely love to have trav's insight on how to make a snare sound like THAT.
knowing all the difficulties to record drums (that's the reason that i use drum programmed FOR THE MOMENT), Anup and Travis duo make perfect sound perfect color tones perfect drumming perfect video. with all these criteria at this level it's just amazing. . . Plus Juan carlos Briceno Sanchez and Plini R H value my composition... Thank you to all
I was reading up on how to get a good snare sound, and many engineers say it has more to do with overheads; the close mic is more for little tweaks. Not sure how true that is, but just passing on some info.
0 dislikes, GOOD. I'd love to know your microphone configuration for this session, everything sounds spectacular and I'm even more impressed that it's 100% natural sounds that you've captured. cheers.
Wow That was just too awesome. Your so good Travis and incredibly inspiring to become a great musician....Keep having fun and inspiring people. Thanks for all your uploads and time spent for us/fans.
SOOOOOO well done, amazing orchestration around the drums. what you've done totally destroys the programmed version haha. when/where will this track be available for purchase/download?
Great playing, Travis! I always love your work but I enjoyed this piece so much that I feel compelled to say something specifically (in addition to buying the album right after the video ended). The phrasing and ideas you're adding fit perfectly with the rest of the instruments. The whole tune has a really cool vibe to it. There's certainly a lot going on but it still feels natural and organic. Great job all around!
Hi Travis, good stuff. Can you tell me why you use your left leg only on some bass drum hits and in other parts of the song you use your right leg only?
hey man! aside from the badassity of the playing.. jus curious. is this your mix or anups? both of you and Rudy have the best mixes on youtube in my opinion :)
How long did it take you to come up with all the parts for this particular song? And how's your creative process? I'm a big fan of your drumming and to me, this particular song came out a true drumming masterpiece. Can't explain why, but that's what I feel everytime I watch this video.
YES ANUP!! I was watching a video and asked him if he knew you, but this was a while ago, and he said you guys are good friends...then Alex too...it's like a drummer linked-in! HAHAHA But is this mixed by Anup, or whoever does his stuff? Because the snare sounds very similar, might be acoustics of the room though, just wondering :P you guys all inspire me!
Hey Travis.. as a Jedi to fellow Jedi.. and truly out of respect, i dare you to pay a tiny bit more attention to your posture.. for my love of your talent and supporting it's longevity.. the last thing this world needs is you with back problems! : ) Thank you for your gift!
You sir are incredible. However, Im not here just to tell you how good you are haha. I recently started playing open handed because of you and good ole Carter Beauford but sadly I cannot find many things on playing open handed (besides a book that I ordered but it never came..) Please help me out some pointers? My typical kit set up is a kick, snare and floor tom (lefty set up for now to resist right hand/leg dominance.) Any advice?
Do you have any recommendation for a good first set I could get for a reasonable price? Just a 2 tom kit and I'm getting cymbals separate. Sorry this doesn't really correlate to the video.
i cant quite figure out how your snare sounds so huge. certainly, the drum sounds amazing, but with your snare mic so far, i feel like any sort of compression would make the bleed into a big mess. and i never hear any gating. wat do?
Im no drummer by any means "can only keep beat on the lowest of levels", but is there a reason why you use different symbols on certain parts of the music or does it sound better? I am just curious.
+Dakota Rodriguez Do you mean 'cymbals'? I change them up depending on the style and 'attitude' of the music. Some sounds complement other sounds more fittingly, in my opinion.
what size is your kick drum? reason I'm asking because I play a pretty small sized kick drum (18X22) and i've been playing for a while trying 100% natural sound, clear powerstroke 3 on the bass drum, but doesn't sound as good as that. any suggestions?
+Luis Valle Looks like there are 3 Pearl Vision sizes 20" x 18" w/BB-300 VBL2018B 22" x 18" w/BB-300 VBL2218B 24" x 18" w/BB-300 VBL2418B No idea which one he's using, though.
this is so good, dream come true to have played on the same track as you travis!
ps. nice carpet
Thankya! Just to clarify, Anup mixed the drums and layered 'em with an instrumental track that Max provided me.
haha no worries, i did the bit around 1:45 to 2:25
my name is plini (soundcloud . com / plini) :)
@somethingorange @DaltonTheDwarven Hahaha, it actually didn't work out - had to head home and upload from there. Thanks for following me on the ol' Twitter.
plini your part is my favorite part of the song the drums go perfectly with that vibe.
Cartoon Theory is like one of the only album's I've actually bought on iTunes. Cool.

GOD DAMN this is such a beast of a classic
Anup Sastry's studio! Love both you guys' drumming, awesome to see you know each other

Cheers! I wrote the parts for this one in two days; I used Guitar Pro, as I do with most sessions.
Your replies to comments are in every way as epic as your videos Mr. Orbin :)
oh my god those toms sound so fucking beautiful!!
Today I was abandoned by my coworkers when we couldn't finish our project by the end of normal work hours and I just don't like leaving something unfinished that can be completed within a couple of hours. Thank you, Matt!
I can listen to this all day
Definitely one of the cleanest mixes I've heard from the Orbinator.. I like it!(:
If you have multiple cameras, make sure you take the white balance from the same spot with all the cameras. This way you won't have so much difference in the colors between shots.
I'm going to give Anup a big thumbs up with this one. Those drums (and that stack) sound amazing in this video.
Well that's my face melted again.....just too goooooood!
Thank You Travis For This Music ..
Wow! Just discovered your channel and dayum I'm impressed.
always makes me happy to click on one of travis's videos and see not one person has disliked it :)
I'm loving this song. It's so freakin' groovy. I think I may have to tackle a few parts of it myself. It seems like one of your more tractable songs, especially for a young (as in experience) drummer like myself.
Thanks so much!
Tuning tutorial please? I can tune decent but you honestly have the best sounding kit i have ever heard
Dammit Travis, I was supposed look something up on youtube for homework, but now I forgot. God damn, every time.
Oh god, this is just so damn beautiful. Orbin, you never cease to amaze me. Really loved the sequence from 1:06 to 1:14. Super challenging!
Huge fan from Brazil right here!
Enorme canción el estilo de Breeze es único se podría incluso apreciar desde el espacio!
Good Job! Amazing Drummer!

Ahh... so good :')
I just love watching my biggest hero doing what he does best!
It is in the video description :D

That was awesome. 100 little cool ideas in this one. Great job.
MUCH appreciated!
Top demais.... Setup incrível!
Hadn't felt like playing drums in a while (for some weird reason), until I saw this.
Hi Travis, good stuff. Can you tell me why you use your left leg only on some bass drum hits and in other parts of the song you use your right leg only?
it sounds amazing, you are sooooo inspiring !!!
hey man! aside from the badassity of the playing.. jus curious. is this your mix or anups? both of you and Rudy have the best mixes on youtube in my opinion :)
you sir, have outdone yourself
If Travis plays for modern drummer festival and make interpretation of Wizardry mind that would be amazing !
one of the best ! oh Yes ! big influence for me
Yanno, now that you mention it...that room suddenly looks damn familiar from some of Rudinger's videos. You might be right!
Greetings From Costa Rica
Greetings :D

I'm a big fan of your drumming and to me, this particular song came out a true drumming masterpiece. Can't explain why, but that's what I feel everytime I watch this video.
I appreciate your concern, really, but I've never had problems nor felt any pain. Thank you!

yes
dionaea is awesome man
good taste
Travis have you ever heard of Dionea? if so please do a cover of them :)
You sir are incredible. However, Im not here just to tell you how good you are haha. You never stop amazing me Mr. Orbin. Lol
Nice !
Whoa, who is this? What's your name? I had no idea you did a guest solo, I'll put you in the video description. Whoops!
yes its anup sastry's studio :)
Isn't this where Alex Rudinger Records too?
This song rules man
Monstroooooooooo!
Do you shine your cymbals, Travis? They look brand new here.
SICK!
kickass stack man (ozone type crash with china under) sizes?
wow i like that snare !, what type of snare is it like the brand ?
Yeah dude, I think you should get a back rest so you don't get back problems. Anyways great playing, loving the versatility.
"Just GO for it!"
Hell yes
wow nice work Orbin :O
my nose is bleeding... so fucking amazing
Do you have any recommendation for a good first set I could get for a reasonable price? Just a 2 tom kit and I'm getting cymbals separate. Sorry this doesn't really correlate to the video.
@shaftninja That's alex rudingers place huh?
He actually spoke the guitar tabs for this song.
i cant quite figure out how your snare sounds so huge. certainly, the drum sounds amazing, but with your snare mic so far, i feel like any sort of compression would make the bleed into a big mess. and i never hear any gating. wat do?
Nope! Heh, I think it's a case of Anup's digs possessing some rather flattering lighting.
Some sounds complement other sounds more fittingly, in my opinion.
it looks like you utilize a lot of your core when you play, is this true? i feel like i flow better when i keep my core engaged
You mean Anup Sastry right? There is where you and Alex record your stuff?
what size is your kick drum? reason I'm asking because I play a pretty small sized kick drum (18X22) and i've been playing for a while trying 100% natural sound, clear powerstroke 3 on the bass drum, but doesn't sound as good as that. any suggestions?
+Luis Valle
Looks like there are 3 Pearl Vision sizes
20" x 18" w/BB-300 VBL2018B
22" x 18" w/BB-300 VBL2218B
24" x 18" w/BB-300 VBL2418B
No idea which one he's using, though.
I do not have a trigger on my kick, these are all natural tones. What you're seeing is the HA100 hi-hat to bass drum attachment.
Remo Cs Controlled - snare drum) I have the same
It is very important to have great sounding drums from the start, though! Those are Pearl Reference Pure drums after all.
hey travis! I have a question. Is that a Vision kickdrum?
What kind of sticks do you use Travis? They look like tree trunks...
Hi Travis, with what prog do you transcribe drums?
cheers
Is this a copper snare?
this is at anup's place isn't it?
