The hair and beard only prove to further my theory: Travis is a wild man. Living in the densely wooded forests of Delaware, surviving on nothing but maple syrup and bear meat, he trains. And waits. After waking at dawn and completing his workout routine (consisting of bench pressing and curling felled 100 year old Maple Trees), he pulls out his practice pad, practicing his footwork, ghost notes, and cool flammy shit until its too dark to see. There, in his secluded hut made of broken Vic Firth Magnum sticks and moose hide, he patiently waits until his masterful skills are called upon once more. And when that day comes, he jumps into action, with grace, surgical precision, and thundering power. He's not only the hero that our aural urges deserve, but the one that we need. Thank you, wild man for dutifully watching over the drumming and metal communities. Until next time.
Well... Following 55 Cancri on facebook I was waiting for your work on this song with great impatience. Then it came. And they shared it... again... and again. And each time I listen. And each time I'm amazed.
I swear I got a "Travis radar" this is at least the 6th or 7th time where I just randomly checked your channel to find a new video only a couple minutes old. and awesome playing as always!
Hey Travis, thanks so much for your generosity in posting transcriptions. I'm really, really enjoying your music and that only enhances it. Keep up the great work.
By the way, Travis, I seem to remember that you make your transcriptions in Guitar Pro - your transcriptions sure look like GP5 tabs, anyway. Reading the tab, I get the impression that you 1) use the 55 (splash note) for the stack and a text (S) when it's an actual a splash hit, and 2) use the fortissimo dynamic 42/44/46 for the right hat and forte (?) for the left - am I on the right track? I've been looking for a way to make similar GP5 transcription hacks when I transcribe drums for my setup.
difquin They're GP4 (no stems in GP5, can't stand how it looks). There's a key in the video description for the recording session for "Pixieprog", one of my old solo tunes; it's on my channel. You're on the right track!
Hi Travis! I know I asked you about the difference of the Vic Firth headphones and the EX-29 in your previous video but I keep reading online that the Ex-29's sound much better. What do you think? cheers
If sound is your only concern then either are fine but I've found the EX-29s to be waaaay more comfortable if you're wearing them for long periods of time.
Hey this questions been bugging me, was Rudinger actually a full time student or have you just given him lessons in the past? Cause its like how everyone says Joe Satriani taught Kirk Hammett, they had one lessons together and worked on writing one solo (blackened, the best most out of the box kirk solo ever funnily enough, and he doesnt even play it anymore.
I gave him two or three lessons and he also came and stayed with me in DE for a weekend. I passed along a lot of my fundamentals, the kind of stuff that comprises the video lessons that I sell amongst other things. Despite this, I feel I've been more of a stylistic influence and not so much technique, as he's always possessed great technique (esp with the feet) and time. He's been a buddy over the years and I look forward to what he's got coming down the pipe.
Thanks man! He clearly has a more metal based style but what impresses me most is the length he gets in his strokes. How he has does end up hitting his face with his sticks I don't know! Thanks, great view off his moeler ride techniqe in the new cognizence video from him too.. and yeah lets not talk about his feet :(
By stylistic do you mean his open handed techinque and double hat set ect... Its for sure the way he was meant to play. I actually get more of a "kick" out of your bass drum technique, especailly natural sounds, the vision kick drum in the impact video I believe... increadible tone.
neonblack88 Thanks again! It would seem that my ambidextrous approach was an influence, but by "stylistic" I mean the idiosyncratic flairs that are embedded in my playing.
Travis ...are you beefing up from playing so much ..and with those tree trunks..or have you been hitting the gym hard ...sorry if this was answered already
KodRaiN Lol Blake Richardson's always been huge man. Back in 09 when I met him he was lookin juiced as fuck! Haha I guesa that's what happens when you're the non-vegan of the band
No disrespect to Pete P, but this has got to be up there with your most challenging/impressive recordings in your catalogue. The technicality of the drumming here is disturbing! 1:46-2:00 is nasty
Haha, I highly doubt he'd take any. At this point I'm not sure where it'd fall in the list of most difficult compositions, but it sure is no walk in the park!

Gabe Hicks Haha! This is pretty amazing. Mind if I Instagram th--errr carve it onto a tree for posterity's sake?
Of course!
thats true
This is it man. You nailed it
The little 32nd notes burst with double bass at 3:50 and 3:54 and so on are nothing but insane.
My thoughts exactly. This man tends to make me re-evaluate my abilities as a drummer every damn time :D
Dude that double hat foot flutter thing at 1:32 made me piss my pants.
Well... Following 55 Cancri on facebook I was waiting for your work on this song with great impatience.

Wonderful rhythmic patterns!!
bass drum pattern starting in 3:50 is such badas*! but badas* is the whole song :D

Hey Travis, thanks so much for your generosity in posting transcriptions. I'm really, really enjoying your music and that only enhances it. Keep up the great work.

Do you have a wall of cymbals like at guitar center with the little arms sticking out holding them and you can demo each one?
Nah, they're all stuffed into a few cymbal bags. I tried them out at the Zildjian factory.
Hi Travis! I know I asked you about the difference of the Vic Firth headphones and the EX-29 in your previous video but I keep reading online that the Ex-29's sound much better. What do you think?
cheers
Hugo Ribeiro I only listen to kick+click, so either do the trick. I gots rhymez.
If sound is your only concern then either are fine but I've found the EX-29s to be waaaay more comfortable if you're wearing them for long periods of time.

and tighter than a ducks buttux in dynamics and time
neonblack88 Thanks again! It would seem that my ambidextrous approach was an influence, but by "stylistic" I mean the idiosyncratic flairs that are embedded in my playing.
Travis, watching you play makes me feel the worst drummer on earth.
Matteo B If it is any consolation, Virgil still makes me feel the same way.
It's kind of a consolation, I guess ahahah
Travis ...are you beefing up from playing so much ..and with those tree trunks..or have you been hitting the gym hard ...sorry if this was answered already
Haha, just been hitting the gym (my home gym) hard. Very hard.
Travis Orbin Is that like a new prog metal thing? because Alex and Blake Richardson got huge over the last few years. It's gotta help with control...
KodRaiN Lol Blake Richardson's always been huge man. Back in 09 when I met him he was lookin juiced as fuck! Haha I guesa that's what happens when you're the non-vegan of the band
He's bigger now, though. Look at his older videos vs. the stuff off the paralax dvd.
its all in the beard bro
