  • Take a visit to Tokyo's Yoyogi Park, Hachiko Crossing in Shibuya, a cafe called "Harbs" serving sakura cake and Inokashira Park in Kichijoji. Also check out our next video which goes to Yoyogi Park, Shinjuku Gyoen, Odaiba, the Meguro River and Ueno Park.
    (Watch) • Cherry Blossoms Around...
Knowing the cherry blossoms (sakura) is to know Japan itself. Their beauty comes quickly and is short lived -- falling from the tree after only 10 days. The samurai lived knowing their life would be short, and that spirit is in each cherry blossom.
Called "mono no aware" which is deeply rooted in Buddhism, Japanese have a strong connection to all things. The beauty felt for the sakura is deep. Mono no aware is also an important factor in how Japanese connect to manga, anime and things important to them.
In this episode, John travels around Tokyo taking in the cherry blossoms spots, investigating hanami (cherry blossom viewing and picnicking) and talk with some hanami-goers. Why is there such a big celebration for the cherry blossoms in Japan?
This show has been created and produced by John Daub. He's been living and working in Japan for over 15 years and regularly reports on an International TV Show for Japan's International Channel.
Casting light on quirky, funny & amazing Japanese culture in a way only seen through the eyes of a foreigner! Join us as we penetrate deep into the heart of Japan!

I lived in the Washington DC area for many years & the Cherry Blossoms there are so beautiful !
Thank you Japan for giving them to our country so many years ago. One day, they will be great old trees like the ones in this park.
    Thank you!

You should check out the Cherry Blossoms in Newark someday. A nicer display than DC. This was the only year I didnt go to the festival there since 2003 because of Corona Virus.
