So, being these other companies making comparable drones to DJI, will that start to bring the cost of DJI drones down because of the competitive market
Another ridiculous argument is when public places ban drones on their property "for the safety and privacy of their customers" but have no problem letting everyone walk around filming everyone with their phones or action cameras in 4K with AUDIO... but its the drones that are a concern that film from 100 feet away with no audio. 🤦♂
Safety-wise, I suppose they could argue that a drone might fall from the sky, or be crashed into someone - unlikely to happen with a phone. The privacy aspect makes no sense to me, however
Public places cannot legally ban filming of any kind. It's quite literally against the law, which is why you have all kinds of 1st amendment auditor channels on TH-cam who go and film in public places looking to illicit a response
I used my Mini 4 pro yesterday to see how well my field was irrigating....it was just pasture grass. Where I fly there is not anything of interest to anybody but me. I shoot alot of sunrises and sunsets.....no security issues there. And, I just send it in the air just to play with it....oh my. Thanks Russ for keeping us updated.
Me too. The whole reason I have a drone in my 50's is that we are traveling the country in various campsite. I simply float it up above the site we are staying (following all permissions and laws by each entity) and spin around to get a 360 scenery view of where we are staying, and then bring it back down. Not interested in putting it over cities and zooming it around structures.
1. We aren't DJI's "biggest customer". 2. Because of Skydio's government contacts/contracts, including hiring former gov't officials, they do have immense influence. Of course, it helps that they also have the support of other US based drones companies. 3. This isn't about security, per se', is about getting the average Joe Smoe's cameras out of the sky. Some believe it's to pave the way for drone delivery, but I also wonder if it isn't to lessen the number of prying eyes out there. Police departments and other gov't agencies are already concerned with smartphone cameras documenting their every move. Now include flying cameras in the hands of hundreds of "1st amendment auditors"... American made drones well cost significantly more than comparable DJI products, lessening their proliferation amongst the common people. 4. DJI has been investigated and cleared several times of these same allegations. It's just amazing that this keeps coming up. Especially from idiots that are most likely carrying around a Chinese manufactured phone in their pockets as they traverse the corridors of the federal government and sit through committee meetings. Even if they don't have them on them in the gov't buildings, they certainly do 90% of the rest of the time. Not to mention whatever Google or Alexa products they might have at home. This is all so idiotic and blatantly disingenuous that it genuinely turns my stomach to think we are governed by such buffoons!
"This is all so idiotic and blatantly disingenuous that it genuinely turns my stomach to think we are governed by such buffoons!" Exactly how the 2A community feels...
As a new business owner who uses DJI drones, videos like this Russ really help set the tenor of a solid conversation. I just wish our lawmakers had more of the right information and less lobbying dollars.
I’m a recreational drone operator who uses my drone for my own personal use, photos of the area where I live. I’m not sure how much any of my photos will be a problem
It does not. China has military saterlites so this drone issue is nonsense because someone bought some politician and the rest don't have much more brainpower to think it thru.
I've always said that same exact thing. Google maps shows more information than any DJI drone. I personally think USA is trying to profit from DJI. Look at Anzu and their stupid prices. They expect us to pay for a DJI drone and give them an extra $1,500 dollars. It's crazy, I would rather forget about the hobby than to buy a drone for that price. Thanks for sharing Russ
Well considering how corrupt so many American companies are and love to grift the consumer you know this is all about gouching as much as they can once DJI is out of the picture.
Complicated topic. However, speaking as someone who works in a very technical field (data/communications related), and has dealt with data security related issues I have ZERO doubt the Chinese government collects data on foreign adversaries and their citizens. Saying that, you also have to realize there isn't a comprehensive federal law in the United States that explicitly prohibits companies from selling customer data to third parties that might ultimately end up in the hands of foreign adversaries like China. Trust me, you have no idea where your personal data ends up today. It gets collected domestically, bought/sold to various other companies (foreign and domestic), and you have no idea ultimately where that data ends up. Let's take the example of even our own US government's surveillance activities were not widely known to the public until revealed by whistleblowers. Most notable, disclosure by Edward Snowden and NSA surveillance programs.
Yeah and thats why spying from our own government and other countries should be made illegal as a global agreement. Just because they tap into our video transmission does not make it our problem. It makes it their problem.
Great informative video. With so many individuals that have dismantled modified and repaired DJI drones, you'd figure something would've been discovered by now. Their entire argument (if any) doesn't hold an ounce of water.
Also if DJI is banned in the US they will still lose their biggest market. They won’t be able to continue with their current level of innovation and R&D. The average consumer isn’t going to buy a DJI drone with non DJI branding on it.
Many times I have not agreed with you, but this time you are spot on. Not only am I a drone 107 pilot but a private pilot and aircraft owner. One might as well ban toasters as they collect about the same volume of data as does one of my several DJI Drones. If it comes to data - what collects more than a cell phone (most of which have components from China). Overhead info?? Google Earth provides more than any drone. And how about the 800 Chinese satellites that we know about. One should be more concerned with the data that our own government wants to collect.
Cant you see he is only telling you exactly what you want to hear. You cant use logic when it comes to Capital Hill! Wishful thinking wont change the outcome! Using logic, the Bill shouldnt have gotten this far!
@@WW5RM Yes, Your are correct that it should not have gotten this far, but this is not new. My Mooney plane had most parts supply “frozen” because a Chinese company purchased Mooney. Eventually the Chinese company sold because it could not survive without US sales. However, Mooney now sits in “no business limbo” in part because of US federal regulators. The FAA has changed from the regulators that we knew in 80’s & 90’s. They have opened up to foreign aircraft and engines (where most innovation is coming from), and the LSA’s change are beyond anything that we could have expected. One must distinguish between the law makers (Congress) who are mostly ignorant of what the real world is doing and the regulators (FAA) who is living the real world every day and is and has been very supportive of drones - working hard to get to BVLOS.
I think it is pretty common knowledge which US company has been driving a large part of this. I agree with Russ, there is more than one single company and plenty of politics and fear-mongering here. It is worth pointing out that the recently hired Director of Federal Policy for Skydio is Joe Bartlett, coming directly from his job as National Security Advisor to Elise Stefanik, the very same Representative from NY who is drafting and pushing the bills we are talking about. Hard to not draw some lines through that revolving door...
Do you still think we have nothing to worry about, now that they attached the ban bill, to the must pass NDAA? Do you think there will be an amendment? Im pretty damn worried, I have 6 DJI drones.
Just because you have a valid argument (which you do) doesn’t mean the government isn’t going to ban DJI soon. If they can force American businesses to close, then they can ban DJI without any problem.
WELL, hate to inform you, but I work for the state of California as a Land Surveyor and we formerly used All DJI for photogrammetry. As of now, DJI is officially banned from the Government of California and we are now using Skydio for photogrammetry, which is a big deal. What these new Skydio interprise type drones are doing, will most likely strengthen ALL bans on Chinese drones doing government work and eventually commercial as well. In the end, it really doesn't matter what name DJI like companies use, if they are not US companies, they will be bye bye. I don't like it, but it is what it is
Despite all the wishery, I think they will eventually band DJI Drones. American-made drones would never be allowed to operate in the CCP. Why is that!? My guess is for the same reasons why our Government doesn't want them operating inside the US.
None of us have any say on that decision though I feel. We might as well be living in communist china already. Our own government spies on us just as much if not more. Though I understand some locations being a security issue banning them completely is ridiculous. Just another excuse for the government to use to gain more over reach.
I worked my a@@ off to finally afford my DJI Matrice 30T and I’m working hard to make a profit with it and pay it off! If my $13,000 drone becomes a paperweight because a bunch of inferior drone companies don’t want to compete on an even playing field there will be lawsuits levied at the Commercial Drone Alliance and their partners! How dare they!! what new and up-and-coming company is going to replace my M 30 T with a Drone they performs equally well and gives me back the money I’ve lost? what you’re saying does give me some comfort Russ, it’s just the idea that these companies and their politicians would have the gall to do something like this really ticks me off!
It won't be a paperweight. The FCC isn't going to block the communication spectrum if they actually withdraw the license from DJI. Your drone will continue to work, especially if you keep it offline.
I pretty much agree with everything you said, and you did your usual clear, concise addressing of the issues involved. I just hope you’re (we’re) right about this. These are insane times when it comes to government actions, (even and including ) the Supreme Court. One other thought: If DJI gets banned, what could China do to retaliate? How about stop building proucts sold in the USA for US companies? They could also stop selling components to the US. That would pretty much cripple the entire US economy. The real issue here (and you covered it perfectly) is whether the company is actually doing anything they’re being accused of. I doubt it. And they’ve complied with every rule the US has put down, including RFID and no-flight zone requirements.
You demonstrated the ability/skill of using common sense and logic to come to the conclusion that consumer drones pose no threat to national security. However, the US congress has shown time and time again, they are either unwilling or incapable of exercising this ability/skill.
Russ, I guess my thought was always that "If there was a full DJI ban" we could fly with Mavin or another 3rd Party App. I believe that if a Ban comes that it will be in the FCC side banning DJI's "apps" and not their hardware.. But again there are other apps we can fly with that will not be banned. I would love to see DJI come out with a U.S. version of the App DJIFly (I have suggested that to DJI but never heard back). It seems to me that having a U.S. based and certified client would totally eliminate any threat of spying or any type of data mining. Just my opinion.. Thanks
I am a huge DJI fan boy. Had the Air2S for about a year and a half before I sold it. Sold it only because I wasn't using it enough and couldn't justify getting the part 107 license. The drone itself was 100% flawless. NEVER had a single issue with it. I currently have the DJI Mic and the action 3 camera.
I wanted to share my perspective on the current discussions regarding the potential ban on Chinese drones in the U.S. It seems to me that this ban does not truly reflect a genuine concern from the U.S. government about Chinese drones. Rather, implementing such a ban would eliminate approximately 90% of recreational drones sold in the U.S., significantly reducing the number of drones flown in this country. Additionally, it's worth noting that the momentum for this ban only started to build after SkyDio's exit from the consumer drone market. This timing seems more than coincidental and suggests that other factors may be influencing the narrative. I believe it is crucial for us to address this issue from this perspective in our messaging. Your insights and support in this matter would be highly valued. Best regards, Lead Coordinator & Remote Pilot Trainer, Syosset Fire Department
Thank you Russ! You’ve eased my anxiety over this. I just got a New Air 3 and love DJIs products. You are my favorite to watch on TH-cam. Love your videos. Keep them coming and God Bless your wife and family. Stay strong, Bruce.
I have had Autels for several years, but since thy refuse to continue to keep batteries in supply when they discontinue models, made me switch to DJI.. Thanks for your video and don't listen to all the propaganda. God Bless America.. JC
Russ, I keep going to your channel in hopes of seeing another positive and uplifting video regarding the DJI ban and an update regarding your thoughts on this ridiculous dirty bill being pushed through the house of representatives! I am feeling a bit like Scrooge when he was speaking to the ghost of Marley, “speak comfort to me Russ!” 😅. Please don’t say, “I have none to give.” I have heard from the gentleman on Drone news that there are a lot of commercial drone companies fighting this bill. Maybe that’s something good.
Thx dude I just got into camera drones and DJI is the only brand I'm buying from. I'm only 13 and I'm currently saving up for a DJI Mini 2 SEWI already have 135$ and you probably already know that it cost's 270$. I can't wait to get it.
I don't say I disagree with @51Drones , but this comment of his exemplifies his conflict of interest. The congressional bill says that it would ban DJI from the FCC's legal radio communications. This would make it illegal to fly a DJI drone. No grandfathering, despite what @51Drones is saying in his video.
@@OranJuno The literature is very clear. It will only be for products after the law goes into effect. They won’t uncertify products that have already been certified.
@@51Drones What literature are you referring to? The actual bill says: "IN GENERAL.-Section 2(c) of the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019 (47 U.S.C. 1601(c)) is amended by adding at the end the following: (5) The communications equipment or service being (A) telecommunications or video surveillance equipment produced by Shenzhen Da-Jiang Innovations Sciences and Technologies Company Limited (commonly known as ‘DJI Technologies’) (or any subsidiary or affiliate thereof)" Plain and simple it says that "the communications equipment or service" of DJI to be added to the FCC's list of equipment and services that pose a national security threat and therefore disallowed using federally-controlled (FCC) frequencies. There is absolutely NO language that even remotely implies that it's for future equipment only. Now, you can be hopeful that they amend the bill to include such language, but as it stands it simply doesn't exist. I'd be happy to be shown otherwise.
Thank You Russ For your honest and constructive answer I have had so many idiots demean me because I have DJI Drones on sale I'm tired of these kids ! offering me $100 for a $900 asking price I'm just tired of this Society just sick and tired of it all !
Russ, i completely agree with you. I try to answer these questions and more to my family and friends and clients about how I may soon have over $15K in decorations sitting on my shelves. Its ludicrous and im completely ashamed to live where I live. Yes, I live in N.Y. and you know why i feel this way.
Russ, you are starting to talk me out of any level of concern. But, from a commercial standpoint, where do the images for photogrammetry or LiDAR get processed, on DJI servers. DJI Terra is on DJI servers and if the Chinese government "needs" copies, guess what, they get copies. I usually use Autel for commercial work and never login to the Autel servers, not required to fly, but I heard a recent post that Autel servers are in the US, not confirmed. I only own a P4P v2 DJI drone these days, but I think I was forced to login to the DJI server before I could take off, so I don't think casual or recreational DJI flyers are excluded. Maybe, the solution is to cut any connection to DJI servers for any DJI products and use North American based solutions only, similar to what Anzu has done. Not sure if DJI drones can fly without an internet connection. Good job on your video.
@@SpeedRacerXM5 So they're comparable with Apple in that sense they can do as they please with their product and i as a consumer really have no say in it whatsoever?
I'm not really that concerned either, I don't think it will ever happen. And worst case scenario, it does happen, well as you just pointed out the white label DJI drones will be available. Great video Russ, and thanks for sharing.
A friend of mine adviced me that if I travel to any country that is adversary to the west like China, make sure you get a disposable phone for these countries can take your phone and take all your information.
Two words Google Maps.......which drivers around taking pictures for most of the world today a drone flying around will never collect the same information then google maps collects in one day
I just crashed my avata 2 & waiting for the shipment for my replacement. I'm still in the first 30 days of owning it and I am concerned. We could be told they aren't sharing data but how do we know for sure 😢
Cant they just collect the data from google earth. I cant fly my drone over airports or military sites or refineries i mean all this is lies to ban the competition because they cant compete.
Totally agree with what you said, but, I have noticed prices of dji drones have dropped massively, so the rumours are having a knock on effect, unless of course there’s a massive increase in sales due to the war in Ukraine.
Thank you Russ for all your insights to this. I really agree with everything you are saying and don't have any fears of loosing my ability to fly my DJI fleet. Thanks for ALL you do brother!
First off, thanks for making this video. You make a lot of really logical points. But, as far as the money goes, if the CCP is involved with DJI, those points aren't really applicable. And as far as guessing at what data gathering could be in play, I wonder more about the app than the flying camera. I also know there are things I don't and can't know as far as espionage and spying go that would never be part of the public discussion. So I understand, on one side, a healthy skepticism of our government's motivations for wanting to ban a foreign company who's become so dominant in one market. But I also don't want my taste for DJI products to skew my objectivity on this issue. I really don't like any of the ideals of the Chinese government and fully support any policy that would slow their aquisition of power and influence.
DJI is China based not US based and is sponsored by the state which is why they can undercut the competition. But I agree with alot of your points. Great video.
I believe some of the bans were related to FCC indicating that no DJI drone could utilise communication frequencies to operate. So that would make it illegal for people to use DJI drones. I agree though, the ban doesn't make sense. Just political posturing... The political posturing goes away if they actually follow through.
I had a person yell at me when I was flying my drone in a city park. The park was hidden deep inside a neighborhood at the end of a cul de sac. Nobody was in the small park. The lady yelled at me saying I was breaking the law and told me to read the sign at the entrance. It did say no remote control airplanes. Then cited a city ordinance that was written in the 1980s before drone existed. I didn’t break any law. Drones aren’t airplanes.
Hi Russ! I think it's great that you are having a rational approach to that issue, and help to calm down some of your viewers! However, that drone ban frenzy, is not evidence based, it's purely political motivated xenophobia and financial interest, and actual technology has nothing to do with it. *People that are in a state of irrational fear, are rarely open to fact based information,* and that's the biggest danger to our industry! Heck, even CapCut has been mentioned by lawmakers for the chopping block, because they are owned by TikTok's parent company! The past few years disillusioned me about some politician's ability to reason.
I think what a lot of folk are forgetting or are in denial about is that even though existing dji owners are partially and perhaps over optimistically safe, the ban will still affect their warranty, official replacement parts and units, software & firmware updates, and dji services. Additionally, the FAA could impose additional restrictions on dji drones in the future as the ban sets a precedent. Ultimately, the existing dji drone owners will be heavily affected by this ban and may eventually have their drones permanently grounded.
By a strange coincidence, my DJI Mini 2 drone disappeared over the sea yesterday and didn't come back when I pressed the recall to home button. I checked the DJI Fly App on my phone when I got home. It didn't seem to be responding properly, so I deleted it with the intention of reinstalling the App to my Android phone from the App store. On checking I found the DJI Fly App appears to have been deleted from the App Store. So even if I buy a replacement it seems I will not be able to fly it. Anyone else experiencing problems like this? I have Android version 12 on my phone.
Thanks for this, Russ. I'm planning to retire in a few years and hope to use my drones in my side-hustle at that time. You can imagine how disappointed I'd be if I couldn't fly a quality drone anymore by then.
I don’t personally agree with a ban on DJI and I hope it does not happen. However, there are several questionable assumptions in this video. First, very few people who aren’t involved with this specific issue directly or professionally are in a position to know what sort of information has and can be passed to the government of China. Second, decisions by foreign owned companies are not always in the hands of those companies executives - we should not apply our logic of rational business decision making to them. Third, one should not assume that the US government can so easily protect data- many countries have active and aggressive cyber warfare programs and it’s an ongoing battle. I would just be cautious with assumptions, that’s all.
How do you know existing drones won't be affected? My understanding was that if they pass this it will prevent ALL DJI drones from communicating on all FCC regulated wireless networks. You stated this very definitively but thats not how the bill reads.
@@51Drones sorry, but do you mean the "experts" are claiming the bill prevents ALL DJI drones from communicating on FCC regulated communication wireless networks or are they claiming it won't affect previously purchased drones?
@@saudmunawar2050you're correct and @51Drones is incorrect on this one. You don't have to read "expert" articles to see that the congressional bill pretty unambiguously states that DJI would be banned from legal FCC regulated frequencies. That would apply new or old
@@OranJuno exactly. What the bill actually states (ban of ALL DJI from FCC regulated wireless networks) is not being discussed or addressed at all in this video. Very worrying.
To be honest. Chinese government can easily run any private chinese company and look into their data. Same with ovens, rumbas amything with wifi basically.
Totally unrelated, Russ, but I have question I hope you or one of our other flyers can answer. I have a MavicAir 2, my second, actually. I just got it back from a maintenanace issue from DJI. I had a "module' issue with the RTH command. They sent me a different drone, which I discovered after checking S/N. It would not connect to controller so I called tech support. They (she) got me back in 'control' after a series of commands that I made on the controller. All is good in that area now. But, while on the line with her I asked if any future firmware updates for the Air2 would include RID. She said it was included in my replacement drone. Is that possible? How do I check for RID compliance with this drone?
Out of the one million new drones sold every year in the US I would like to see what the brake down is of current drone owners buying another drone, and first-time drone owners. I was in the first time buying a drone category in 2023.
Large donors want to see their competition (aka DJI) disappear. The senators that are for banning DJI are either getting large donations or they are being blackmailed.
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the FAA make a ton of money off of Part 107? If they get rid of DJI products then that's a pretty big loss for them.
ive had many DJI drones over the years, I don't know if they should be banned, but of course china uses them to collect data. Its the way they operate, see huawey, hikvision and many others.
You have a point but the only other reason would be if DJI is making more money from sharing information regardless on how large there market in the us is and that’s only if they are doing that
Thank you, Russ, for bringing common sense discussion to this issue. I like what you said about Google searches. Also, you can't tell me "they" don't have satellites capable of 'looking' at whatever they want. Geez, I'm a recreational flyer so does the government REALLY need to ban my drone? Keep up the good work!
on TH-cam they have ads for SKYDIO . They show police and the Army using them....looks like Skydo drones do not fly or respond like DJI's drones. The politician that wants DJI banded sits on the SKydo board....................conflict of interests ?
With DJI geo-fencing in the Fly app, what kind of sensitive data can be collected? We cannot fly anywhere close to the airport, let alone the military ones.
How come they didn't ban Google for posting overhead photos of bases? Foreign and domestic? Stock market gains by representatives who own those stocks.
My concern would be more about the app's permissions and what it could get from certain users or clients, particularly government agencies. Those data breach capable firmware/app software loads wouldn't be updated and utilized until the last moment. As far as your pics and videos, he's right, those are fairly useless and quite common knowledge. Google Earth has that covered. Your local police data, your senator who flies drones phone data, or access to microphone listening- that is where shit gets messy. Chinese companies unfortunately have little choice but to comply if and when the CCP rolls into thier office. Might sound crazy, but it is possible. Google is constantly monitoring voice for targeted ads. We have to be vigilant with every possible threat. This same concern is why TikTok is getting pushed against.
I agree 100%. Most people who use drones or tiktok cant wrap their head around this because its easier to believe that the government is corrupt than consider sacrificing some dopamine. I just think its the competent thing to do, China does it to their people and I see it as competent cybersecurity policy. I have chinese security cameras in my house and they're firewalled from the rest of my devices and ever talking back home to servers. most people arguing against these bans have a wifi password that you can crack in 15 minutes, they really should be glad that other people care about this shit perhaps a 100% ban is overboard, but people need to be more security conscious. most people assuming this is all about money without knowing the first thing about technology is disappointing. if china overtakes the US, this kind of general stupidity will be why.
Here is the thing. Our own government does this shit. If it’s gonna be stopped our own government needs to stop doing it too. A world ban on spying should be written. Because at the end of the day, us flying a drone shouldn’t be illegal. What should be illegal is them tapping into our drone video transmission. Simple as that.
Google has sent cars with camera to systematically map every single US road (and surrounding infrastructure) with high resolution images and frequent updates. I think that combined with any Chinese spy satellites would be far better for intelligence gathering than hoping a random drone pilot happens to fly by a point of interest.
I agree with you Russ. The U.S. won't ban DJI drones, because they need them to run their various departments, such as the fire department, patrolling beaches and so many other applications... not to mention all the news outlets & media and other uses that are too numerous to mention here. The cell phone is more at risk of data collection and privacy invasion than drones have ever been... Will they ban cell phones too? It's just so ridiculous.
I know it's lame, but multiple states have already banned government agencies from using DJI drones, and that would include fire departments and law enforcement. This shows that actually no they don't care about the impact in these sectors.
Would you please discuss the bottom line reason for all the hysteria around drones that results in people feeling the need to regulate them so vigorously. What is the government concerned about that would be solved by "remote ID"? If I wanted to do harm or use a drone for illegal purposes, the first thing I would do is disarm the remote ID... Model aircraft have been available since the 50s with no need for federal regulation. What's at the bottom of all this regulation.
Ray, I recently retired and want to supplement with a drone company. I've had my eye on the mini 4 pro. Could you review the mini 4 pro Vs. the upcoming mini 5 pro features? I want to know if waiting for the mini 5 pro release would be prudent. Thank you!
SO nicely said Russ!! Completely banning DJI drones would be both catastrophic and just plain 'impossible' to accomplish I believe. I just bought the Air 3 (Awesome bird BTW), but hesitated buying it for months because of this whole 'ban DJI' crap.. But after doing some of my own research, I decided (exactly what you mentioned in this video) that it is completely illogical to even 'try' to ban literally millions of drones.. 🤦 and if such a thing did happen, you'd probably start seeing all kinds of black market 'drone hacks' popping up.. 😂 Great video Russ, Always appreciate your professional opinion 👍👍
@51Drones - What about the fact our drones become bricks if China bumps heads with the US. For example, if there is a conflict in Taiwan, will we still be able to "activate" these drones? Will we be able to do the mandatory login every few months? Can we change bindings on drones? All of this requires an internet connection to an authoritative server. Just wondering.
I’m waiting for a new mini3 that comes in on the 11th the congress is to vote on the12th. I don’t know if I should accept the delivery or return it I don’t want to pay for something that expensive and not be able to fly it or get parts if the ban passes

Exactly how the 2A community feels...
@JohnDoeTheTroll Oh I also own my fair share of guns... You're exactly right, this post could easily be transferred to a 2A video.
The USA is the number two (1,22 billion dollars) largest buyer of DJI droners, following China.(1.25 billion dollars)
He gets a lot of things wrong. Lol
@@peterdirection4608 Yup!
And they can take my DJI drone from my cold dead hands lol
With the DJI emergence into the agriculture business it's been a game changer. Its changed the way we do business.
I have never given this topic much thought and I agree with your assessment. As I approach my 75th. Birthday I be flying as much as I can!
They can provably find those data on google map, fb, ins etc
Yeah and thats why spying from our own government and other countries should be made illegal as a global agreement. Just because they tap into our video transmission does not make it our problem. It makes it their problem.
Thanks
I appreciate you! 🙏🏻
Great informative video. With so many individuals that have dismantled modified and repaired DJI drones, you'd figure something would've been discovered by now. Their entire argument (if any) doesn't hold an ounce of water.
Your logic is correct, but unfortunately I don’t think the US government thinks that logically 😅
Also if DJI is banned in the US they will still lose their biggest market. They won’t be able to continue with their current level of innovation and R&D. The average consumer isn’t going to buy a DJI drone with non DJI branding on it.
@LukeMaximoBell1 you know the world is bigger than the us ?? 😂😂😂 americans
Follow the bribes.
Our government is so corrupt and then we go and point our guns at any country that refuses to run their country as we do. Crazy times we live in.
Do you still think we have nothing to worry about, now that they attached the ban bill, to the must pass NDAA? Do you think there will be an amendment? Im pretty damn worried, I have 6 DJI drones.
Same here
Just because you have a valid argument (which you do) doesn’t mean the government isn’t going to ban DJI soon.
I don't like it, but it is what it is
California is in a different world and nothing that happens there is a surprise. Will be interesting.
Fines will prohibt its use..😢
I think, and hope, you're right. But buffoonery is what our government specializes in. To anyone reading, contact your elected officials about this!
Elise Stefanik wouldn't read anything you sent her.... that isn't what she does. Her agenda is set by the largest lobbyist doner.
Chinese manufactured network routers and network security cams pose 100x more threat that drones.
Like how people don't like public photos being taken. But google does it everyday.
or the folks that think the govt is spying on them but they have ALEXA etc. but are on 3579 cameras ERRR DAMN DAYYY lol
The reason I'm concerned is because several states have implemented a DJI ban for ALL public agencies. It's already in effect.
Completely agree with you mate
As with everything in government, follow the money. Any ban would have nothing to do with national security.
Best regards,

So the bill passed. We need you to update everyone
Please don’t say, “I have none to give.”
I have heard from the gentleman on Drone news that there are a lot of commercial drone companies fighting this bill. Maybe that’s something good.

I was just gonna buy DJI Avata 2 next week, but after watching this I don’t feel good to buy it. Should I buy it or no?
Buy it. And be sure to use the link in the video description.
The actual bill says:
"IN GENERAL.-Section 2(c) of the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019 (47 U.S.C. 1601(c)) is amended by adding at the end the following: (5) The communications equipment or service
being (A) telecommunications or video surveillance equipment produced by Shenzhen Da-Jiang Innovations Sciences and Technologies Company Limited (commonly known as ‘DJI Technologies’) (or any subsidiary or affiliate thereof)"
Plain and simple it says that "the communications equipment or service" of DJI to be added to the FCC's list of equipment and services that pose a national security threat and therefore disallowed using federally-controlled (FCC) frequencies.
There is absolutely NO language that even remotely implies that it's for future equipment only. Now, you can be hopeful that they amend the bill to include such language, but as it stands it simply doesn't exist. I'd be happy to be shown otherwise.
DJI is smashing the competition. Drones, cameras, microphones.

DJI, CAN PROHIBIT your drone to fly, which may be a nuisance at a min or malicious as worst.

I'm not really that concerned either, I don't think it will ever happen. And worst case scenario, it does happen, well as you just pointed out the white label DJI drones will be available. Great video Russ, and thanks for sharing.
better outlaw all tourist cameras also
A friend of mine adviced me that if I travel to any country that is adversary to the west like China, make sure you get a disposable phone for these countries can take your phone and take all your information.
And all iPhones which are made in China. Ooops!
And google EARTH
Two words Google Maps.......which drivers around taking pictures for most of the world today a drone flying around will never collect the same information then google maps collects in one day
I just crashed my avata 2 & waiting for the shipment for my replacement. I'm still in the first 30 days of owning it and I am concerned. We could be told they aren't sharing data but how do we know for sure 😢
Cant they just collect the data from google earth. I cant fly my drone over airports or military sites or refineries i mean all this is lies to ban the competition because they cant compete.
Russ…thank you for keeping us informed on the “Ban” of drones! You are a breath of fresh air!
I agree. In addition if you are P107 you know the rules and restrictions. DJI has also respected all the FAA rules. There is No Case!!
Russ, I value your in-depth knowledge and information for us all. I'm not worried.
Is this video before or after the video with the senator from Montana?
By a strange coincidence, my DJI Mini 2 drone disappeared over the sea yesterday and didn't come back when I pressed the recall to home button.
I checked the DJI Fly App on my phone when I got home. It didn't seem to be responding properly, so I deleted it with the intention of reinstalling the App to my Android phone from the App store.
On checking I found the DJI Fly App appears to have been deleted from the App Store.
So even if I buy a replacement it seems I will not be able to fly it.
Anyone else experiencing problems like this?
I have Android version 12 on my phone.
Thanks for the update. The drone is no more a threat than public Google maps is.
Thanks for this, Russ. I'm planning to retire in a few years and hope to use my drones in my side-hustle at that time. You can imagine how disappointed I'd be if I couldn't fly a quality drone anymore by then.
why would you not be worried? Florida did it 2 years ago for all government agencies and contractors of government agencies.
Every single article that I’ve read from “experts” claim that.
Open the app when connected to the drone. You'll see a RID # with drone serial number
I don't really care. National security isn't my job nor my concern. My concern is photographing landscapes and sunsets.
How is national security not a concern to you? lol
If their worried about data collection do we ban autel, cellphones, social media, and the www as a whole?
With DJI geo-fencing in the Fly app, what kind of sensitive data can be collected? We cannot fly anywhere close to the airport, let alone the military ones.
How come they didn't ban Google for posting overhead photos of bases? Foreign and domestic? Stock market gains by representatives who own those stocks.
I just bought one and it took me so long to save. I am not a rich person. If they ban it's operation, I don't know what Im going to do...
So if all DJI drones are banned, do they think the replacement drones won’t have the capability to capture the same data?
I have chinese security cameras in my house and they're firewalled from the rest of my devices and ever talking back home to servers. most people arguing against these bans have a wifi password that you can crack in 15 minutes, they really should be glad that other people care about this shit
perhaps a 100% ban is overboard, but people need to be more security conscious. most people assuming this is all about money without knowing the first thing about technology is disappointing. if china overtakes the US, this kind of general stupidity will be why.
In Israel I can’t fly a Dji drone because of gps spoofing how can I jailbreak it to fly
I use my IPhone to control my Drone - I wonder if it's possible for the CCP to Data Mine everything by dropping in a back door?
What are my options in American drones?
Probably have some so-called competitor lobbying the heck out of this thing so they can get more of their toy-tier drones on the market instead.
Once the ban takes effect, Will I still be able to fly my mini pro 3 using the DJI app or will I need to use a user made 3rd party app
I'm mostly worried about being able to purchase a video transmitter unit for my next project (just bought my first pair of DJI goggles)
Google has sent cars with camera to systematically map every single US road (and surrounding infrastructure) with high resolution images and frequent updates. I think that combined with any Chinese spy satellites would be far better for intelligence gathering than hoping a random drone pilot happens to fly by a point of interest.
You are right my friend is all bullshit pretty sure Amazon has greased a few palms
The Government didn’t do a damn thing when the “Weather Ballon” was flying over US Military bases, but consumer drones are the problem!?
Would you please discuss the bottom line reason for all the hysteria around drones that results in people feeling the need to regulate them so vigorously. What is the government concerned about that would be solved by "remote ID"? If I wanted to do harm or use a drone for illegal purposes, the first thing I would do is disarm the remote ID... Model aircraft have been available since the 50s with no need for federal regulation. What's at the bottom of all this regulation.
Corruption
Ray, I recently retired and want to supplement with a drone company. I've had my eye on the mini 4 pro.
Could you review the mini 4 pro Vs. the upcoming mini 5 pro features? I want to know if waiting for the mini 5 pro release would be prudent.
Thank you!
Just get the mini 4 pro and start enjoying it
SO nicely said Russ!!
Thx Russ for your viewpoints; I’m in total agreement with you.
