As an airplane pilot, I do worry a lot about how a drone can bring down an aircraft... Not intentionally hopefully, but is a danger to others where bringing down an aircraft can cause death and serious on the aircraft and people on the ground...
@@donadams8345 Obviously I am. Where have you been under a rock??? There has to be a reason in a court of law. An officer just can say someone endangered a life. He still has to prove it ... and that means how was a life endangered ... etc???
Mr. Adams a drone hitting a manned aircraft could have very bad outcomes. Put yourself if you can of being in a helicopter with or without doors open and something hits your tail rotor your over a city and going down in a crash landing. You are 98% chance of not surviving, that would be on a best-case accident.
That pilot seems like a jerk. He lives in a very wealthy neighborhood by the ocean where houses like the one he is seen flying from are worth 10 to 20 million dollars. I live in CA, I know that neighborhood, it's very exclusive because of the natural beauty. Lets just say he acts like he is entitled to do anything he wants with that kind of money. If you watch the videos he posted with his young son, he taunts him and puts him in kind of risky situations and thinks its funny. So not a surprise he's been caught taunting other aircraft. With that kind of money and good lawyers it's probably wont serve any jail time. So in a way he's correct, he can afford to be an a-hole.
i wonder if he would easily get away if he bumped into any other pilot. i for one would first whoop his ass and then call cops on him extra. i would like to think that most of my fellow pilots would also slap such humor out of that imbecile very quickly and slap some sense back into them.
With all the information about drones and FAA regulations readily available , I think this guy should be hammered, if in fact he is guilty of any of these charges. It’s actions of this nature that results in heavy handed oversight by the 3 letter agencies.
In the new world of legality they say admit guilt or else, so also in today's legality, we ALL are guilty regardless according to the communist regime that now runs most of the world including the U.S,, sadly it is that simple @@r2db
@@Geeksvana People will never learn that they do not have to share everything they do. I have done plenty of sketchy stuff with my drone. But never around anyone, and I do not share the footage. I fly for me. Period. No need to post.
The more important thing is to avoid such situations, rather than finding the pilot after such risky flights happened. That's where a transponder system can help - whether its Remote ID or something a bit more anonymous but that still sends a signal to others around it and maybe has the option to trigger fail safe if it gets too close to an airplane or something similar.
Never defend these people, it will be the rest of us that will have to suffer eventually when they make the laws that strict, it won't be worth owning a drone because of the actions of idiots.

Drone pilots are forcing more and more regulations all by themselves. Constantly pushing boundaries, invading privacy, always looking for more ways to abuse their hobby.
Let’s not forget the government always over dramatizes any event and intentionally twits the context to make it sound life an death. Example if you were flying your drone and a helicopter saw it from 1 mile out and had no idea what direction you were flying even though you were flying away from said helicopter, the pilot would take evasive action and report it as a near miss. You’d be in court about to lose your freedom and would you want the rest of us to take the government and medias word on what happened ? Would you like us to be quick to judge or abandon you ? I don’t believe you would. I’ve had some experience dealing with the court and they are never just or truthful. I’m not saying this gentlemen didn’t do anything wrong but we also don’t know he did either
I live in the second largest city in my state in Australia and due to our laws (not sure how different they are to laws in other countries) we only have a very tiny patch where we can fly drones, about 90% of our city is off limits due to airport runways. The last thing I want is for laws to be harsher, if that's the case I'll just have a very expensive paperweight.
I guess if you are flying your blimp, heli or gyrocopter and you see a drone that close, you don’t know what the operator’s intention is going to be, so I guess the fearing for your life is reasonable.
If the drone flies into the helicopter blade we all just laugh at the fitting karma. But the risk is that the drone flies into some turbine engine intakes; that is when little bits of metal shrapnel become a complete wildcard.
Nevertheless, the rotor motors will trash the engine. But yes, its better than losing yaw control. What many UAV people dont seem to realize is that every aircraft and every component of every aircraft has physical limitations. Windscreens have speed limitations generally below 10,000’ where it is more likely to strike large birds - the motors of the drones are harder than bird flesh so would penetrate the windscreen at a much lower speed. How would you like one or more of those motors coming through the windscreen at 250 knots (general speed restriction for aircraft below 10,000’ in U.S. airspace)? It could cause severe bodily injury or death of the stricken pilot. Then what of the people on the ground the may be killed or injured by the aircraft if it goes down. Most general aviation aircraft are single pilot including some jets. People need to realize the havoc they could cause!
all this proves is that there are already laws to handle criminals who commit crimes like this and do so without needing all the tyrannical rules and regulations they've implemented.........

I'm a new drone pilot and generally fly at 100 feet in a remote rural area. The potential for interacting with manned aircraft is not something I would have expected in a million years yet on my 6th or 7th flight I had to bring down my drone due to a low-flying sea plane skimming over the lake where I was practicing my flying. It's definitely something every drone pilot should expect to happen eventually and should be prepared for no matter where you fly.
i got low flying A-10 warthogs in my area. apparently my house is located on an air-force training path. i catch them flying with my eyes least 3 times a year. i dont fly drones much anymore. the batteries dont last long and they're not cheap.
These are the drone OPERATORS that are going to make it even harder for any of us to fly anything. Now, i say operator, because any type of REAL pilot, would know better than to do this crap. He deserves the maximum punishment. Being an adult, and knowing the dangers of these actions, justify the harshest punishment.
When drones first came out, started to fly, they would fly over fences or to the roof of buildings and take pictures of women and girls sunbathing. they would then post the pictures to youtube or facebook. The husbands and fathers started shooting them. Law Enforcement told the fathers and husbands they LE couldn't do anything about it, talk to the FAA. guess what? that is where all these rules came from.
Oh yes, I'm sure real pilots know to not do that. In other news, I've had police helicopters flying no more than 50ft above my roof before on three occasions. Will they face prosecution? Nope.
@redryder6987 it wasn't a drone and it wasn't endangering an aircraft. Rules are different for real aircraft. Even if the rules were the same, it's the police...how many times u see them speeding down the highway with no emergency lights on? Do they get pulled over like me or you? No. It's a "Rules for thee, but not for me" situation. Noone holds the "watchmen" accountable.
@@SubZ3ro907 #1 I'm not sure exactly what it is that you are arguing about that I didn't already agree with. #2: it doesn't matter what it is or who is flying it the rules for "real aircraft" are no different than for drones which are also "real aircraft., "Endangering an aircraft" with a 500g toy made out of foam, some small bits of plastic and in larger models fragile composites that would barely put a few dents in the turbine blades of a modern turbojet is nothing in comparison to a 2-3 ton helicopter full of jet fuel doing donuts for half an hour over a bunch of houses while conducting an illegal search for whatever quota they need to make for the week. Further, at the height they are legally required to be operating aircraft at, they should have plenty of time to find a place to land after an impact that is quite literally nowhere near as bad as hitting a goose, a turkey, or even a crow. At 50ft? If a single bolt along the driveshaft of a helicopter or on the motor happens to get loose or fail, there is no hope of a crash landing, the pilot and all passengers will be dead as well as anyone on the ground unlucky enough to either be near or within the plume of burning jet fuel or who get hit with debris and shrapnel. It's also fun to remind people that they do actually test aircraft and aircraft components, including engines, for impacts with birds and other large debris. They shoot big, butterball turkeys out of a cannon at them. Nothing that a hobbyist flies will get anywhere near the weight or density of a butterball turkey. Worrying about situations that are extremely unlikely to happen, let alone cause little damage, is ridiculous when there are other more important issues which are far more dangerous.
I fully agree! This selfish stupidity will effect us all. There is already a segment of the public that dislike drones. It sounds to me like he WAS intentially flying near manned aircraft simply to get sensational videos to post on social media...at the risk of injury or even death. I say three years no time reduced for his plea!
I watched a few of the guy's videos on his TH-cam channel, including those featuring his young son. In one vid, the guy actually pushes the boy from behind making him fall into deep water in a pool. In another vid, he puts hot sauce on the boy's crackers, and the boy has to grab a drink and is in obvious distress. Kind of a jerk.
As a 40 year Commercial Pilot and CFI, CFI-I and a part 107 License holder, I think he should probably get the maximum sentence on all counts and be allowed to serve them consecutively. If it's just a monetary fine he will suffer little it would appear, and therefore he will learn nothing. There should probably be an additional charge of "CRIMINAL STUPIDITY".
Your personal history is of zero relevance here. Max sentences are for habitual offenders. Fines tend to be quite moving for offenders. He should be held accountable, but not to the max unless there is a valid reason. We have punishment ranges for good reason. The claim he will learn nothing from criminal charges and a fine is sketchy at best.
@@captainyowza8164 I appreciate this comment. This is why we have the judicial system we have, to be judged by a jury of your peers, who are screened and chosen based on logic rather than emotional attachment. Thank you for being reasonable.
that would be cool if he was just a casual and accidental offender, sure, slap on a wrist will do.. but he is intentionally doing it and is a repeat offender, so max him out.
I tend to use the mannaed aircraft rules if I'm flying and a helicopter or light aircraft comes in the area, try and stay at least 1,000 feet away from them - horizontally of course! Although a low flying Hecules scared the living daylights out of me once... but I was only at about 100 feet.
I am afraid of running into this some day. My house is near some power lines and the utility will randomly (2-3 times a year) fly a helicopter just over the top of the trees along the lines. It flies fairly fast and due to the trees, I have little chance of seeing it before it arrives at my location. So far, no issues. But, if I hear a helicopter, I head to the ground ASAP. All false alarms so far.
As an RC flyer, you can see some of the issues within the drone community with some of the comments quasi defending this guy. He should be banged up for flying his drone at or near other aircraft, end of. Until you mob took to the sky, it was unheard of any RC issues. Now, thanks to the maverick drone flyers, we have CAA mandatory registration, 3 yearly examination and soon to be implemented Remote id.
My problem with this as an American, is helicopters can fly at whatever altitude they want. They are not limited to the 500 feet agl that fixed wings are. I had a helicopter come over my property so low a few years ago the pilot damn near burned in avoiding my daytime bonfire. I called the FAA to complain and they told me what happened was fine.
@@kwhp1507 I've had a similar situation at our property. I wasn't flying at the time but a helicopter turned up below 100 feet with little warning. It turns out that they were inspecting power lines in the area.
I use AIRMAP & other local restricted area maps sites before I fly. The only aircraft I had in my area was a hospital emergency evac helicopter, I set my drone down before it got to my drone, then I walked over to pick it up.
The guy sounds a bit like an entitled jerk to me, it's people like this that have caused the toughening of regulations. I tend to nearly hit the deck as soon as I hear another aircraft, I get down as low as I can and if I can get back to the take off point safely I do so and land. What about the police drone that hit a landing aircraft. They just got a smack on the hand.
Yes the details not going through open court doesn't help us. We only have the plea to tell a story. The narrative they ate painting is that the drone pilot was flying towards the aircraft each time, so the distance was only kept 'safe' by the helicopter crew.
that is a very inconsiderate and shallow view, i wonder would you feel the same if you were in that helicopter and could not tell whether the drone is coming towards you or away or whatevwr else
30mph=44 feet per second.... so 5 seconds to impact at 220 ft and closing... IMLTHO: That's Freakin hazardous if the drone was going 30mph! Only questions in my mind are whether "asshat" should be hyphenated and if so is it as-shat or ass-hat!
I agree no problem with the helicopter as long as pilot stays in one place and does not make any turns and the winds are zero and the drone does not drift into the helicopter. What are the changes of that happening? Odds are not in favor of the helicopter with dedicated rescuemen in it.
my very first drone flight I encountered an air sea rescue chopper, being a complete novice I hit the return to home button only to watch in horror as my drone started climbing. I quicky realised my mistake and my pal with tons of experience guided me in lowering the drone and bringing it back, needless to say 2 yrs on I alter my rth to suit each flight!
Also... a normal human being would not behave in this manner. I bet he has mental/sociological issues or something. Doesn't change the fact that he materially put others at risk, tho. Luckily, most people are naturally cognizant of risks and care for others on a natural instinct level. There will always be defective humans, tho, who do things like this. And this happens throughout society, in all forms. Nothing new under the sun.
I think the plea deal has taken information away from the story. As you state it doesn't change the outcome etc but it would be interesting to have more information.
It’s always someone doing some really dumb stuff in these legal situations. Like how, especially at 62 years old, could you think these are good ideas?
In America there is a statute that says "Ignorance of the law is no excuse". In this case, with as much news that there has been and a flood of videos and information I cant see how that would apply but, just based on the information here I say throw away the key and lock this guy up. I am tired of people doing stupid and dangerous things that the rest of the world has to pay a price for. LOCK HIM UP.
A few years back...I reported an idiot to the FAA....FSDO office in Belleville, MI. This drone pilot was flying his drone at night in Detroit and he was flying it close to the Detroit Marriot Renaissance Hotel and was filming people in the rooms. He then proceeded to fly the drone across the Detroit River and across an international border into Windsor, Canada and was flying it around a hotel over there on the waterfront.
As a retired Middle School teacher/VP, I've seen hundreds of stupid antics i.e. a student setting a student's hair on fire in class! The drone pilot needs to meet Jack Smith!!
It is dangerous idiots like this that give drones a bad name and cause so hate towards them. It makes it difficult for those of us that do fly with regard for others. I hope he gets the maximum penalty.
Must be some drone on steroids to chase down a full sized helicopter and a gyrocopter. How fast does a drone have to be to follow and catch up to a coast guard heli?
The people that are saying he is ruining for the rest are not actually grasping the situation, or how things work. Its like saying somebody in a car going 100mph hitting a wall "ruins it for the rest of the drivers". Absolutely zero sense.
All I want to do is pretty simple; fly my drone without government interference, regulation or any other such thing. I don't fly beyond my line of sight, not anywhere near airports, government buildings, or heck across busy streets. People that are like going out of their way to mess with other people, or airplanes, helicopters, etc deserve to get their hands slapped. All that a bigger drone gets me is a little further distance as I can see the size just a little bit easier.. Fairly sure that many others are no different than I am. I don't need someone or some official agency to tell me that I should not go peeking across the fence, peeking into bedrooms, or flying in air space that is not safe to do so. Morality and common sense guide me and others like me. I certainly don't appreciate RID and making it easier for the thugs in real life to take advantage of someone going out to have a bit of fun.
Nothing I would not imagine a California person doing. I think about all the flash shop lifting by ganga etc. Also, I think California has even made it a law that people can shop lift without facing a penalty if it is less than a shopping cart full. So, people walk out with shopping carts full all the time now.
The other drone that actually was struck by a cessna, was a police pilot and was flying in an airport restricted zone looking for a suspect. I don't think there was any federal prosecution? This was in canada as well? Is there another case you're talking about?
It amazes me how many people do illegal crap with their drones, and then post their crap on the internet... They aren't in jail for doing an illegal activity, they are in jail for being beyond stupid, in order to protect the rest of us from them.
Unmanned aircraft is the legal definition I think, altough you could argue this is more a helicopter than an aircraft. But maybe a helo is also defined as an aircraft. Who cares really.
In CaliFOREIGNia, no drones are allowed in Wildfire Air Support as there has been close calls with collisions and some have been arrested then plead ignorance of the law .
As much as people given me heat back in the day for flying...I would never in a million years dream of flying around aircraft with real people inside...let alone anyone around for that matter.
This guy deserves whatever he gets. As a fellow quad copter pilot stories like this irritate me. He should have sense enough not to be flying around any of those aircraft. I fly fpv and like to fly around trees and unoccupied structures. People like this guy give fpv and drone pilots a bad name.
Anyone that flys unsafe like this guy should not be allowed to own another drone. Hell I run from birds like yesterday over my house. I live about two miles from a huge lake in SC I had my drone up about 100 feet and here comes a large gull right at the drone. I hit the stick and dropped the drone quickly. The gull moved on. Drones can be dangerous in the hands of a fool.
This is not going to be a popular post but I'm also making some assumptions I'm not going to interact too much because it's a very one-sided argument people are just going to attack Did he do something dangerous? I don't know we don't have enough information. First thing I need to know is what was he flying are we talking about a half pound drone 4 lb drone a 10 lb drone? What are we talking about here? Because there's a very big difference between these things there's a pretty big difference between your kid driving their tricycle toward a police cruiser and someone driving a tank toward a police cruiser you see what I mean? For example my little mavic mini is no danger to any of those aircraft even if I were dumb enough to intentionally crash them into those aircraft it's an absolutely no consequence to those aircraft if you think a 250 g drone is a danger to an aircraft I have billions of 14 lb birds that have something to say about that As you correctly noted the Victor wrote to the plea deal so a lot of these responses are likely total BS a life-threatening landing for a blimp with a drone flying toward you it's going to bounce off your air bladder it's not going to do a thing to a blimp It could have gone for the tail rotor You're joking right? That's like saying the lightning bug that you saw light up near the rear of your helicopter made you crash land it. So until we have more details a lot of this is complete BS and should be accepted as such The gyrocopter did he fly toward the gyrocopter or the gyrocopter fly into his airspace? What did he do as a result of that? Did he fly the drone away or did he fly the drone toward them? We need this information I fly My model aircraft was a very simple philosophy don't be an a-hole and don't be stupid Typically the only time a drone is really of any danger to general aviation is near airports if you're not near an airport you're not really dangerous and yes I include flying it altitude before all these stupid regulations I used to regularly fly two and 3,000 ft using power gliders not drones they didn't exist back then Connecting to aircraft in three-dimensional space is nearly impossible this is why the military spends billions of dollars developing missiles and classifies them because it's really really freaking hard Now drones do change this metric a little bit because the pilot can become the guidance system he can see what the drone sees and fly it toward what he sees from the feed that does change things quite a bit If he is actually targeting aircraft flying toward them intentionally in the air because I don't accept anything from the plea bargain statements is that is written by the officials and not by reality Now if in reality he was actually intentionally flying toward aircraft that is an issue that needs to be discouraged contrary to popular belief it's not because the drone is any threat to the aircraft The pilot of the aircraft is the threat they're overreaction or incorrect reaction to what they're seeing is the threat like I tell people where we fly model rockets my 40 lb Mach 2 rocket isn't a threat to an aircraft but if you're a military veteran come airline pilot and you see a contrail coming up off the ground toward you what are you going to think that is :-) That's why we don't fly rockets around aircraft not because the rocket ever has any actual chance of hitting or endangering the aircraft No matter what we need to discourage these aircraft from mingling together and if he is actually intentionally flying within a couple of hundred feet of GAA aircraft that's a problem that would require some disciplinary action But we also need his side of the story not this plea bargain BS and we need to know what kind of drone this was how big was it how heavy? Again a mavic minis a threat to nothing unless I crash that drone into your face or into a toddler it's not going to hurt anybody I can shove my fingers right into the props and you'll barely even feel it and it's certainly not going to endanger a blimp a helicopter or a gyrocopter in fact the most dangerous interaction here might very well be the gyrocopter since the drone could in theory actually impact the pilots directly with its open cockpit We definitely need a lot more information information from officials is basically useless so they're going to be looking to punish someone to make an example of them. As for the police helicopter? This is just me being pessimistic but I really would not be surprised if that helicopter intentionally cracked into the drone Yes police are that nuts :-) but I don't think Coast guard are not like that so if he was flying toward a Coast guard helicopter they probably did try to avoid it. Is the guy an idiot Yes should have done that no should there be disciplinary action if he's making a habit of doing this? Yes Is it as dangerous as this article describes probably not and we're probably missing a lot of actual data here.
This Person was probably smiling while doing this thinking 'oh, this is so cool' without even thinking about the implications of their own stupidity. There are too many of these kinds of People in the World.
I am somewhat skeptical about some of these reports. And what in the world is the US Coast Guard doing flying 200 feet over the beach? Even though they have Coast Guard painted on the side of their helicopter does not give them license to fly around that low. They're illegal! Look at Trent Palmer's case. What a mess!
Because of people like this we all have to suffer. Been flying RC airplanes for over 50 years and prior to these gyro stabilized multi rotors we had no problems with government. Now we have flight regime restrictions, must be licensed, and now have to equip our aircraft with transponders. This is what happens when we lose respect for others, and do not think about or care about consequences of actions.
I don't recall any mention of the drone pilot's certifications. Is he a commercial or recreational pilot, or does he not have any certification? What type of drone was he flying?
On the Aug. 10, 2021, a Cessna 172N, was struck by a drone while on final approach into Toronto Buttonville Municipal Airport (CYKZ). On board the Cessna 172 were an instructor and a student who “had just turned from base leg to final for Runway 15” at CYKZ, according to the occurrence summary in the CADORS report (Transport Canada’s Civil Aviation Daily Occurrence Reporting System, which provides initial information on incidents with Canadian-registered aircraft). While the aircraft suffered “major damage,” there were no injuries reported from the incident. The RPAS, was operated by the York Regional Police for an operation in the Richmond Hill, Ontario, area. The drone was flying within one nautical mile of Buttonville airport when the strike occurred; the mid-air collision was identified in the CADORS report as unauthorized entry into controlled airspace. The report states that air navigation service provider, Nav Canada, was not made aware of any RPAS operations in the area which is required by law. The officer was disciplined but nobody went to prison.
Greetings from California. I reside in a agricultural area where crop dusters may be present at any time of the day, as well as Life Flight helicopters. If I'm flying my drone, and I can hear an aircraft in the area, I immediately ground my drone ASAP. There is nothing that important that can't wait until another time to fly.
Why was the Coast Guard so low?? Laguna Beach does not show any flight restrictions the Coast Guard was just buzzing the beach for show it seems why were they at 300 ft ?? Yes the guy is an idiot for flying towards it but they were not actively in a rescue they should have been at least 500 ft everytime there is a drone v aircraft the drone is always wrong the uscg needs to fly by the rules as well
No details given on the reason for the Coast Guard helicopter being that low. The full case PDFs should be available very soon. I am hoping some more details might come out through those.
This idiot, and those like him, deserves whatever punishment he gets. These idiots are the reason why we are having to deal with these controls. I have been involved in RC flying for over 40 years, and you never heard of these incidents until the advent of quadcopters, otherwise known as drones. As to this case, if found in violation, the individual deserves prison time.

We fly near a hospital with a very active helipad. It's our policy for everyone to hit the deck if we even hear a helicopter. This is no game... those copters come in low and fast.
RID would have done nothing to prevent any of these alleged incidents. Pilots and ATC do not have access to RID unless they open the app on their phone while flying... I am curious how much of this plea deal is just this guy getting railroaded to push RID and UTM. I know the FAA wants as much case law on the books as possible to fight the inevitable lawsuits.
RID would absolutely have done nothing in this case. Unless local authorities were running recording of all RID signals. I think it sounds like some flights were probably BVLOS, and that makes it unlikely anyone would have been close enough to get a signal either.
I once had the reverse happen when a news helicopter came out to the blue approached my drone when I was filming a boating event. I took evasive action, dropping to 20 ft. above the water and them landed. Ashore. I was fortunate that his prop wash didn't cause me to crash. I felt he was not acting prudently as he was below surrounding structures. In all fairness he most likely couldn't see me, but he was very quick o his approach.
SoCal is the busiest airspace in the country. Lots of aircraft flying at low level over the coast for sure. All drones need to be operated by licensed operators.
Ban him from drone use.. The repeated patterns showed he cared 0 about safety of others. If he doesn’t take the 3 hits, and a cot for extended stay, and pay whatever restitution is owed..
The altitude differences between where drones are allowed to fly and where aircraft are supposed to be when away from airports *should* avoid accidental interaction. Unfortunately there are times when manned aircraft are going to be below the expected heights for legitimate reasons.
I've flown numerous times around Baltimore (With authorization), and upon hearing a helicopter or seeing one, I've always brought my drone in low and close to me just to be safe. The guy referred to in this video is an idiot and should be punished. He is putting lives in danger. There is no excuse for hazarding a manned aircraft.
People like this will not use RID unless it just happens to built into the drone. Legacy drones should have been grandfathered in. The FAA has done that over the years for manned aviation, for example with certain lighting requirements, radios, and even ADS-B.

As an airplane pilot, I do worry a lot about how a drone can bring down an aircraft... Not intentionally hopefully, but is a danger to others where bringing down an aircraft can cause death and serious on the aircraft and people on the ground...
You don't really need drone regulations to charge this person. He could simply be charged with reckless endangerment of human life and property.
...but governments need reasons to grow their bureaucracies, budgets, and powers!
Incorrect ... you still need how was he recklessly endangered human life and property in a court of law.
@@wapperjaw8282 Obviously you're not from the US.
Do you know his socials? I thought they would have forced him to pull them down.
@2bluvin your comment is overt jealousy of the wealth you don't have
Well sounds like this guy was acting the fool big time. Sounds like he needs to see a shrink to handle his grandiose attitude.
Sounds like he should be in a padded cell
i wonder if he would easily get away if he bumped into any other pilot. i for one would first whoop his ass and then call cops on him extra. i would like to think that most of my fellow pilots would also slap such humor out of that imbecile very quickly and slap some sense back into them.
With all the information about drones and FAA regulations readily available , I think this guy should be hammered, if in fact he is guilty of any of these charges. It’s actions of this nature that results in heavy handed oversight by the 3 letter agencies.
could it be just more propaganda instead of truth ? We saw the many claims already....
Agreed
He has pled guilty, so as a matter of law he has been found "guilty of the charges" beyond any reasonable doubt.
In the new world of legality they say admit guilt or else, so also in today's legality, we ALL are guilty regardless according to the communist regime that now runs most of the world including the U.S,, sadly it is that simple @@r2db
Seems like they're doing just fine finding unsafe UAS operations without needing RID and prosecuting those operators 😊
It think social media does a far better job of finding bad pilots 😂🤣

In this case due to posting on social media, which is not always the case. So still need RID.

Its the govt policy of collective punishment thats the problem.
If only we applied collective punishment to govt.. like when 1 stuffs up we treat em all the same
Drone pilots are forcing more and more regulations all by themselves.
@@laulaja-7186 Aircraft and crew would be better off flying into the engine inlet and turbine blades than a tail rotor blade.

This guy needs about 10 years in prison. Who in their right mind would knowingly try to harm three different aircraft and the people who are on them.

I tend to use the mannaed aircraft rules if I'm flying and a helicopter or light aircraft comes in the area, try and stay at least 1,000 feet away from them - horizontally of course! Although a low flying Hecules scared the living daylights out of me once... but I was only at about 100 feet.
I've had a military helicopter fly at 200ft altitude over my flying location, I heard it coming and landed my quadcopter immediately to avoid conflict
As a pilot and 107 licensed drone operator, I hope this guy goes to prison. He absolutely risked the lives of many.

The helicopter incident shows stupid intent but 200 feet away does not seem a distance that presents a hazard.
Yes the details not going through open court doesn't help us. We only have the plea to tell a story. The narrative they ate painting is that the drone pilot was flying towards the aircraft each time, so the distance was only kept 'safe' by the helicopter crew.

I agree no problem with the helicopter as long as pilot stays in one place and does not make any turns and the winds are zero and the drone does not drift into the helicopter. What are the changes of that happening? Odds are not in favor of the helicopter with dedicated rescuemen in it.
One incident is excusable. Three is indefensible! This guy should be banned from flying anything for life.

A few years back...I reported an idiot to the FAA....FSDO office in Belleville, MI. He then proceeded to fly the drone across the Detroit River and across an international border into Windsor, Canada and was flying it around a hotel over there on the waterfront.

Just getting “hands slapped” is what got him into this situation!! Hand slapping is for children!! He’s a phucking adult!!

Why am I not surprised that they caught this guy because he posted his crimes on TikTok? As Forest Gump used to say, “stupid is as stupid does”.
I try to stick up for fellow citizens but, this guy is a danger to the public. Lock him up.
This is not going to be a popular post but I'm also making some assumptions I'm not going to interact too much because it's a very one-sided argument people are just going to attack
Did he do something dangerous? I don't know we don't have enough information.
First thing I need to know is what was he flying are we talking about a half pound drone 4 lb drone a 10 lb drone? What are we talking about here? Because there's a very big difference between these things there's a pretty big difference between your kid driving their tricycle toward a police cruiser and someone driving a tank toward a police cruiser you see what I mean?
For example my little mavic mini is no danger to any of those aircraft even if I were dumb enough to intentionally crash them into those aircraft it's an absolutely no consequence to those aircraft if you think a 250 g drone is a danger to an aircraft I have billions of 14 lb birds that have something to say about that
As you correctly noted the Victor wrote to the plea deal so a lot of these responses are likely total BS a life-threatening landing for a blimp with a drone flying toward you it's going to bounce off your air bladder it's not going to do a thing to a blimp
It could have gone for the tail rotor You're joking right? That's like saying the lightning bug that you saw light up near the rear of your helicopter made you crash land it.
So until we have more details a lot of this is complete BS and should be accepted as such
The gyrocopter did he fly toward the gyrocopter or the gyrocopter fly into his airspace? What did he do as a result of that? Did he fly the drone away or did he fly the drone toward them? We need this information
I fly My model aircraft was a very simple philosophy don't be an a-hole and don't be stupid
Typically the only time a drone is really of any danger to general aviation is near airports if you're not near an airport you're not really dangerous and yes I include flying it altitude before all these stupid regulations I used to regularly fly two and 3,000 ft using power gliders not drones they didn't exist back then
Connecting to aircraft in three-dimensional space is nearly impossible this is why the military spends billions of dollars developing missiles and classifies them because it's really really freaking hard
Now drones do change this metric a little bit because the pilot can become the guidance system he can see what the drone sees and fly it toward what he sees from the feed that does change things quite a bit
If he is actually targeting aircraft flying toward them intentionally in the air because I don't accept anything from the plea bargain statements is that is written by the officials and not by reality
Now if in reality he was actually intentionally flying toward aircraft that is an issue that needs to be discouraged
contrary to popular belief it's not because the drone is any threat to the aircraft The pilot of the aircraft is the threat they're overreaction or incorrect reaction to what they're seeing is the threat like I tell people where we fly model rockets my 40 lb Mach 2 rocket isn't a threat to an aircraft but if you're a military veteran come airline pilot and you see a contrail coming up off the ground toward you what are you going to think that is :-) That's why we don't fly rockets around aircraft not because the rocket ever has any actual chance of hitting or endangering the aircraft
No matter what we need to discourage these aircraft from mingling together and if he is actually intentionally flying within a couple of hundred feet of GAA aircraft that's a problem that would require some disciplinary action
But we also need his side of the story not this plea bargain BS and we need to know what kind of drone this was how big was it how heavy? Again a mavic minis a threat to nothing unless I crash that drone into your face or into a toddler it's not going to hurt anybody I can shove my fingers right into the props and you'll barely even feel it and it's certainly not going to endanger a blimp a helicopter or a gyrocopter in fact the most dangerous interaction here might very well be the gyrocopter since the drone could in theory actually impact the pilots directly with its open cockpit
We definitely need a lot more information information from officials is basically useless so they're going to be looking to punish someone to make an example of them.
Yes
Is it as dangerous as this article describes probably not and we're probably missing a lot of actual data here.
Guys doing stuff like this will eventually ruin it for all of us. I’m guessing this guy was not part 107. If he was he should never fly again.

Is there a rule for maintaining a distance to manned aircraft while flying a drone? I can't find it?
I'm curious how you get a notification when a full scale aircraft is nearby? Is a it app that monitors flight tracking websites?
I am somewhat skeptical about some of these reports. And what in the world is the US Coast Guard doing flying 200 feet over the beach? Even though they have Coast Guard painted on the side of their helicopter does not give them license to fly around that low. They're illegal! Look at Trent Palmer's case. What a mess!
Training maybe?
@@mrtechie6810 The airspace would have to be marked as a MOA or the minimum the helicopter could fly would be 1000 feet

If they need to fly low in a rescue, then they need to practise too.
The defendant is a sad little man! If you're spending your time like this, ask yourself: When am I going to start living life?!
I googled about this incident, but was unable to discover what kind of "drone" he was flying in these incidents. Even on the DOJ site. Anyone know? Is he a consumer drone pilot? FPV? Other?
Only info I could get from press office was a camera drone. No confirmation of brand or model. Could not even get confirmation of how many drones etc.
@@Geeksvana Thanks! I'll keep digging for it and share what I find.
@@Geeksvana All of the drone content he still has posted on his TH-cam channel is from a camera drone, and in at least one video, he mentions DJI. I'm surprised that he has videos that are a clear violation of altitude maximums still up and available on his channel.
Does it really matter what type of drone. Missing the point?
It’s guys like this that is why we are having the problems we are having…
I hope that he will never be able to fly anther Drone…
The cynic in me can't help but wonder if this is a false flag situation. A way for the FAA to say, "See we need these regulations. Look at all these irresponsible bad actors putting lives at risk." It just seems so far fetched that an individual would have 3 incidents of such high profile. And believe, I'm well aware of the sheer level of stupidity in the world.
That is a very good point. Our governments are getting better and better at that tactic.
@@SubZ3ro907 The FAA isn't even really the government. But they were handed down a directive by Congress to include these provisions if they are to maintain their funding levels. It's a case of the blind leading the lost. Only in this situation the lost is obligated to tell the blind they are getting closer.
We know they did indeed create videos and working with ALPA and others showing drones flying over Airliners at airports to push the evil drone propaganda media blitz, like the Colorado drone swarm that never was and even the gatewick airport closure that never was, so YES that is a good possibility this so called admissions of unsafe UAS operations is indeed further such propaganda to push more ignorant regs on the hobby.
Drone pilots are forcing more and more regulations all by themselves. Constantly pushing boundaries, invading privacy, always looking for more ways to abuse their hobby.
@@marcuslinton310 Then those that abuse their privileges against the rights of others- should be the ones that are gone after; leave everyone else alone.
Definitely sounds like he was being an idiot. Hopefully this might teach some folks how NOT to fly their drone?
Hes a 62 year old man and should know better than to do that kind of thing with a drone. Throw the book at him.
This is like the guy that was speeding his car on youtube movie down the road and the coppers give him a ticket later on after they see the clip.
Its the ignorance of drone pilots like this that ruins it for the rest of us. No common sense at all, and hope he goes to jail or gets heavily fined.
Nobody goes to prison for a misdemeanor. Let alone federal prison.
Prosecute the heck outta these offenders.
People like this will not use RID unless it just happens to built into the drone. Legacy drones should have been grandfathered in. The FAA has done that over the years for manned aviation, for example with certain lighting requirements, radios, and even ADS-B.
hi, im a drone flyer, my main job is forensic mental health, this stinks of a guy who has problems not criminal I hope this guy gets the help he needs, if he flys a drone directly at a giro copter should of been the biggest sign. He should never of got the chance for the other two events. The system let the other two victims down. I am not going to go into detail but something is wrong here. Ray K UK YNWA.
Anyone have a link to this drone pilot's videos?
